The gun culture in America is somewhat responsible for the death of martial arts movies. Those movies were popular back then because kids actually settled their differences by fighting and it looked cool to be able to beat up multiple people at once. It would be unrealistic in this present time because as soon as you strike your kung fu pose, that bullet will lay you down immediately.

Man I remember being in Junior High when The Last Dragon came out. Me and some friends went to see that flick like six weeks in a row. That was back when movies were still affordable for a young person's budget, and a bucket of popcorn and a soda didn't cost you like you were dining out at a fancy restaurant or something. Sheeooot, we couldn't get enough of that movie back then, lol. It was also still very rare to see a black man in a lead role in a major film in those days. This movie is such a classic!! I still enjoy watching it today. Never gets old! It's a shame so many of the beloved actors/actresses passed away though. :(

Taimak is 100% correct. Recapturing the characters, the music/videos and the journey of Bruce Leroy would be very difficult. Sho Nuff was a great character as the antagonist. Bruce Leroy was the perfect protagonist young, good looking, shy, awkward, chivalrous on a journey of enlightenment. He saved Vanity because it was the gentlemanly thing todo. They would screw up the story line today.

"Bruce Lee Roy!", it's good to see him! The Last Dragon was one of the most classical movies of all time. You can still watch it today and feel good. It was just amazing how they put it together. What they are saying is true. Ever since Bruce Lee's death, karate hasn't been the same. He was like Michael Jackson and Michael Jordan to karate. I was a huge fan of Bruce Lee just like the rest of the world. He was one of my role models. Around the time when the movie came out karate was very alive. Taimak(Bruce Lee Roy) just stepped right in and made his stardom with this legendary flick! As of a sequel, i don't know. New characters will have to be entered then people will have to get use to them. The movie won't have the same touch as the original but it might be interesting.

I disagree with what Vlad said there are lot of martials art movies out there maybe there are not market as Martial arts movie but the film certain contain elements of martial arts that bleed into all genres. For example Eternals, Spiderman, Equaliser starring Denzel Washington, Kickass, Red Notice, Shaw and Hobbs, Wonder woman, Batman, most of Ryan Reynold's film, Arrow, Nikiti, Daredevil, Titans, Mission Impossible staring Tom Cruise, every action films or TV series that come out all have beautiful superb martial arts choreography whether that is hand to hand combat, gun combat, fighting, etc. What I believe he meant to say is that there are not a lot of actors who know Martial arts but rather the actors have to learn fight chorography, train in boxing or martial arts for months to make it look like they know martial arts, or I least I hope that what he wanted to say because if saying there no martial arts in films or Tv series then what has he been watching since he was a kid.

That was a wonderful interview with Taimak!! I am a die-hard fan of The Last Dragon. Everything he said about the movie is spot on! It was a fantastic blend of humor, colorful characters, a great story line, and GREAT choreographed fight scenes. I was taken aback how well they were done in a movie with such humor. It's VERY sad that you only got a glimpse in the sun. However, to take a different perspective on it, I believe you, like your hero Brue Lee, were WAY ahead of your time and just a glimpse of yours and his AURA because it is so powerful, is all we could handle. Yet, thank the Lord, we still have you. It is refreshing to hear you speak about the past, the present, and your future!! You sound like a very well rounded man!!

I remember seeing 'The Last Dragon' in the movie theatre with my father and siblings when it first came out. I recall vividly being uncomfortable sitting next to my father because I was intensely aware Taimak was extraordinarily stunning. You couldn't take your eyes off of him. Limited acting skills or not, Taimak's magnitism on the screen was a huge factor in why 'The Last Dragon' worked. Then it had the benefit of Vanity as a co-star, another uncommon beauty and the Berry Gordy Motown machine behind it. Then a killer track by DeBarge to put it over the top. It's darn near impossible to replicate all that. But Taimak's visage was a huge, irreplaceable asset and I doubt without him, it would have made the mark it did. I don't know any young actor today who could command the screen the way he did, just going by looks alone.

Taimak makes a strong argument about martial arts films, they are usually made with bad actors or guys who do gymnastics and tricking but not actually using genuine martial arts technique, the story and overall filmmaking is uninspired, and don't bring up John wick and Keanu Reeves because those are not martial arts films
