I'm late on this but I question how feasible it is to play a professional sport without PEDs and still be healthy. If nothing else you'll need them for recovery. The TV schedule that sports demands is really unnatural.

PED means performance enhancing. There are many many other things you could take for recovery instead of altering your own hormone levels. I don’t believe someone like Mayweather ever took PEDs and look at his career.

You don’t need PED’s in baseball for ‘recovery’ there’s 4 or 5 at bats. Maybe 4 fielding attempts. No need. They definitely will make you hit the ball harder and further though.

PED's do help with hitting. Instead of fly balls getting caught at the warning track they would go over the fence. If this happens fifteen times in a season that is a hugh difference. Instead of thirty five home runs it's fifty home runs. It also gives you fifteen extra hits which you wouldn't have had. That could mean the difference from being a 280 hitter or a 300 hitter.

Not only that, he said it can’t make you hit certain styles of pitching, fats balls, curve balls etc. this is true, but if I’m playing at the MLB level, that means I’m proficient enough to hit those types of throws and if I’m using PED and I make contact more often than not, I’m going to be stronger which in turn makes me hit harder and farther. So he’s talking out of his ass. It makes a difference. I wouldn’t be surprised if he took PED. The way he’s defending his stance makes me think he did

Others include its detrimental to athletes long term health in some instances and its just ethically wrong. "Steroids don't make you hit a fastball better or a slider better" correct... but you're already a professional... you've developed that skill and hand-eye coordination all your life from little league all the way up to the pros. Now, you have elite athleticism, elite hand-eye coordination and you inject steroids into someone with all those professional level skill sets.... the same dude who could ALREADY hit a curveball or slider, now, instead of a warning track flyout or a double off the wall are now turning into homeruns and traveling about 50 feet further. I've always thought the people who use the "steroids don't make you hit the ball better or improve your hand-eye coordination" were non-athletes who don't know what they're talking about that never played. You're giving a guy who can ALREADY hit a major league fastball, curve or slider with professional elite hand-eye coordination a drug that makes the ball go 50 feet further when he DOES hit the ball with the professional level skill set he already has from 2 decades of developing his game to that point. But even if Adam Silver caught Bron red handed with a needle in his ass, he would turn and look the other way because the image of the league and its integrity would die if one of its greatest players of alltime who has been the face of the league for about 12 years gets caught cheating. The brand would die.

Gosh, I am all for free speech, but if Vlad on his big channel is going to address issues like these, he has to check that bullshit, and that's especially true for Salley cause even among pro athletes who stopped studying anything in 5th grade, he has to be the dumbest of them all.

LBJ is on some stuff no one else gets. we saw how much strength and athleticism he lost when he stopped using when he left Miami and went back to Cleveland. then he went on a vacation to Miami during the season and was back to super human again. the two games he played post ankle injury he looked like his adrenochrome supply was cut off, so he's sitting out again. if he doesnt continue using the PEDs he's instantly half the player he was. you arent still the strongest, fastest, most athletic guy among the best athletes in the world at 36 y.o. I don’t agree with Salley on the batting thing. You can be a good hitter yeah, but ped’s can help your strength which increase swing speed no?so your swing is better. It does help you hit a curveball, and every other pitch..
@arthurbb8937
@arthurbb8937 2 жыл бұрын
I agree to a point. PED will make you hit a ball further so Salley is wrong that it does not help you. Hitting a nasty curve or slider has nothing to do with bat speed. It's being able to identify the pitch as a fastball, curve or slider in a split second then determine it's location. That's cognitive vision and hand eye coordination. PED doesn't help with that. It definitely turns a doubles hitter into a HR hitter.

Wow .... for being a former professional athlete Salley comes off as an idiot. Testosterone absolutely improves essentially all aspects of physical & athletic performance. There are a myriad of different types of PEDs depending on your sport and goals. For example, a basketball player would NOT be on the same PED regimen as a powerlifter or World's Strongest Man Competitor. *Lance Armstrong was a skinny cyclist and he was a PED user* *If PEDs didn't work, athletes would NOT risk being suspended or banned.* We all have our areas of expertise or knowledge. The key is knowing when to admit that a particular topic is NOT one in which you have a lot of knowledge. *John should have SAT OUT this discussion or at least acknowledged his limited expertise on the subject matter.*

taking a shot at my guy kobe who got the prp thing in 2012-2013 season. Kobe had a monster year, but like he said they just took his blood and put it back. Kobe had knee issues since like 2006. After 2010 season, his body was really done, carrying the lakers to 3 str8 finals and winning that 2010 took everything out of him. But 2012-2013, he was a monster. So many great games and come backs. I don't see an issue with the prp since its just your own blood + oxygen like he said. if it makes a player last longer its better for the game. Imagine if he got that the whole time, he might have could played at his max for 20 years. Every player needs to do whatever lebron is doing even if it costs them their hairline.

Kobe was juicing bro. There was a glaring difference between Kob in 11-12 and 12-13. He was slow asf , could barely dunk, settled for a bunch of long 2s; he looked like Paul Pierce out there. Then the next season with even less rest because of the Olympics this dude is 25 lbs lighter shooting 4% higher from the field and is dunking from the free throw line. To top it all off he had like a 5 game stretch where he played every single minute of all 5 games with NO rest. This dude was 35 years old, year 17 that’s absolutely Ludacris. I believe it made him stronger, as expected. But it did not increase his "hand-eye coordination". His ability to hit a round ball with a round bat is what got him into the league like most athletes. Let's take someone who sucks at batting and give them steroids, they will only strike out swinging harder.

@@paleamigo8575 That's what the OP said. He's not saying they make you better in term's of skill. But they do enhance the skills you already have. Balls Bonds used to hit to the wall are now going over the wall thanks to increased strength from PEDs. It's really not rocket science. The stronger you are the further you can hit a ball. Yes you still have to have skill to hit the ball but now you have additional strength to hit the ball way further. If I can only lift 100 pounds and then I start taking a drug that allows me to lift 500 pounds how is that not going to improve my athletic performance? Even a small improvement is still an improvement due to drug use.

Highly unlikely Kobe was on it. He was over there doing the blood scenarios as Salley mentioned. If you looked at Kobe's body throughout his career, he never really was bulky and was quite injury prone throughout his career, whereas a player such as LeBron especially in Miami his body was unhuman with reports of how much weight gain/loss and how quick it happened. Rich Paul and LeBron were even linked to A-Rod's guy, along with Jameer Nelson and others during the time A-Rod got caught; plus the running joke of Bron's hairline is an indicator. The league can't afford to have a player of Bron's magnitude go out for that, as he even took a two week break during the regular season to go to Miami (while playing for the Cavs). If you talk to a few sports media members, it's something known, but they won't come forward due to the fear it would have on their career.

Steroids and HgH thins out your ligaments. Your muscles recover faster while the parts holding the muscles to the bone are becoming frail. Which is also why athletes may be constantly tearing tendons and ligaments. A natural body healing although much slower, will also heal and strengthen tendons and ligaments along with muscle gains. Recovery through drugs has side effects that a athlete would try to avoid but can't. Stay off the peds

Saying PEDs won't make you a great ball player in a vacuum is obvious. But of course they offer advantages. That's why they are banned and why some players or fighters take the risk and use them anyway. You still need to work out, lift, train skills, etc...but *all else being equal*, PEDs offer an advantage over the nonuser.
