The minute I heard Hit Em Up I had a gut feeling that the beef wasn't going to end well for hip hop. I was in ATL when it dropped and I literally watched close friends get divided over that song. It was so intense and personal it forced you to chose a side or coast. As great as diss track it was hip hop culture as a whole took the L. And for the record Ether was the best diss record ever. That shit that make your soul burn slow.

you trippin, Ether was better than Takeover but it can still be argued against....there is no argument against Hit Em Up being the GOAT.

I never liked Hit Em Up very much for this exact reason. Imho it was Tupac at his worst playing the gangster image to the extreme. I much prefered his thoughtful self beyond the "my dick is bigger than yours" shit and theres good reason to believe it played a role in getting both him and Biggie killed.

Honestly, I think “Against all odds” is the greatest diss record. That track was the finishing blow for all of PAC’s enemies: the rappers and dudes he had beef with on the streets; which are the dudes who set him up to be shot five times at Quad studio in 94’ ( Haitian Jack and Jimmy Henchman).

Jay-Z and Lil' Kim were also dissed during the recording of Hit 'Em Up's outro. those parts got silenced out on the final mix because Pac's mic bursted out, like Edi said.

I met Biggie a week before he got killed at the Key Club on Sunset Blvd. He was sitting at the Bar with his security in a closed off area... He had his walking cane leaning on him. I walked up to him to give him a hand shake after he threw his head up towards me like "what's up homie" the music was loud and as I shook his hand we both was bobbing our heads to the beat of the music. Realizing as I walked away feeling super COOL. Me and Biggie was actually grooving to the song playing which was Hit'm Up.. I looked back over my shoulder to make sure I did see what the fuck I just saw and I see Big take a sip of his drink and he was still bobbing his head to the song. Two big ass bodyguards on each side standing there looking vicious and they're low key bobbing their heads too.. 1. HIT'M Up is a true classic... 2. I learned some real Gangsta shit that night. Both those guys were amazing!!! I wish they had stayed friends cause you could tell Biggie actually knew Pac and was listening to his brother's frustration through that song AND admiring the level of confidence Pac had to air shit out and get off his chest. I think Too many street niggas got involved after the layers of their individual fame.

Honestly, I liked Bomb First more than Hit 'Em Up. But I know Hit 'Em Up was in the same spirit of The Bridge is Ova and No Vaseline. Diss songs seem to be in three different kinds, harsh verbal takedowns, (mainly subliminal) lyrical well organized tracks made to sell, and freestyles. Like Takeover is more of the second style, Ether was first, so depending on what you like is how you'd rank them. I give Nas the edge over Jay, but I'm a fan of the harsh verbal takedown. So with that sad, I actually like Bomb First, which was the more lyrical song, over Hit 'Em Up. But both tracks are still ranks 1, 1A on the top of my list. So my list would be. 1. Hit 'Em Up 1a. Bomb First 2. No Vaseline 3. Ether 4. Takeover 5. The Bridge is Ova 6. F*** Wit' Dre Day 7. Real Muthaphukkin' G's 8. 2nd Round Knockout 9. Backdown 10. Dollaz + Sense

EG ! word is bomb, pac went so hard on that song. i'm brazilian, and the first time when i paid attention to the lyrics i was like "ohh shit", and i still reacting by this way all the time when i hear this song. That definitely was the realest shit he ever wrote. he called out alot of punks saying nothing but reality. I love nas, but c'mon, pac was right. niggas were watching too many movies. i really understood completely the meaning of against all odds when i heard his interview with rob Marriot, i forgot if the name of that nigga was like this or something. pac was more than a rapper while the rest of the niggas were trying to play that mafioso shit.

21:16 The reason why Pac started the song “Hit Em Up” with “I ain’t got no motherfucking friends” is because 2Pac considered B.I.G as a friend they have footage of each other just chillin freestyling it’s messed up but Pac had to remind himself you ain’t got no friends in this industry after being set up like that can’t blame 2Pac for being pissed off at B.I.G
