In the above clip, Professor Griff of Public Enemy sat down with Vlad and explained the reasoning behind him getting kicked out of Public Enemy. He talks about how MC Serch perceived him as making derogatory comments towards Jewish people and how the fight that resulted afterward led to him being kicked out of the group. He continues to explain how he was given a "severance" package from Chuck D, who signed him to Uncle Luke's (2LiveCrew) label without his consent. Finally, Professor Griff talks about returning to Public Enemy and the "spirit" being gone. He recalls seeing members of the group smoking and drinking on the tour bus with white girls. Watch the clip above.

All I can say is I met PE on my 30th birthday which was 16 years ago. I first met their sound man and he was like yo, you need to meet griff. I didn't know what to say as a white kid walking up to griff with every public enemy 12in single. He turned out to be one of the greatest guys I have ever met in hiphop. He went way out of his way and introduced me to every member of PE including the s1w's. He dragged me around with him all night. He is a very good soul. Actually, every member of PE I have interacted with over the years has been incredibly good people. What speaks even more truth is I have heard nothing but incredible stories over the years from other sound guys, venues, and people who were on tour with them. It speaks miles for who PE is and the members of the group. It only makes me respect them even more then I already did. They are a class act.

@ joker3times I’ve had tons of black folks tried to call me out for saying ‘niggaz’ in a way that meant no disrespect. Because I’m caucasian, even though they say it. When I said if you say it, I can too, they either tried to bluff, which didn’t work because I don’t intimidate worth a damn, or cried. Only reason I don’t use it any more is I got tired of hearing whining from hypocrites.

Professor Grif is THE REAL DEAL! He a hard dude. He educated black America with the history they aren’t taught at school. It wasn’t a problem until white America started listening too. White people ALL over the world switched on to his messages. That was the beginning of the end for him. He taught us so much about historical figures that are ignored by the education system world wide. He switched the youth world wide on to the struggles faced by many and historical figures that most had never heard of, like Malcolm x Ect. He keeps it real. We bought his solo albums after he left PE. He also influenced us in listening to x clan Ect too. Maximum respect to professor Grif. Remember when someone jumped on stage to attack flavour and Grif and the s1ws were on him. Grif threw him off stage and the jumped off after the guy the s1ws followed n sorted the dude out. He’s real 💯. He was a scape goat. They sacrificed him so pe could continue. I was gutted I missed their Brixton show in 88/89 but managed to see em at the round house in Camden London England last year. Got the video from Brixton. Have to say was bit disappointed. The s1ws marching wasn’t anywhere near as tight. Dj Lord is dope but he ain’t no terminator x. The message wasn’t the same. Thy didn’t come out with the fake uzis marching Ect either. The s1ws did a routine to 1 track! Wasn’t anywhere near the same as when Grif led them. Still enjoyed it, but went hoping to see Grif. Good night, just not the same without him. Oh, I’m a white dude with a Jamaican grandfather and mixed race mother n a white father. I’m white like my dad. Me n ma friends were mad into pe at school. Grew up listening to Hip Hop. Pe changed the scene. Instead of being braggarts they actually had something to say. A powerful message that made EVERYBODY sit up and take notice. Big up Professor Grif. Maximum respect for not selling out and keeping it 💯. Many others would have sold out and have. Peace

Tight assessment here about Griff. PE proved that the message was real with "Fear Of A Black Planet" ( droppin' that pure science) that you could be "PRO BLACK" without "hatin' on so-called "white" people (who are just the lighter shade of our Brown anyway) the problem exist for those that have been "indoctrinated" with BEING "WHITE" as a SUPERIORITY COMPLEX which has created the Chasm amongst THEM and everyone ELSE. Ultimately people belong to various "Tribes" as we shall see as the "Identity" resurfaces and is RECLAIMED. PE as you poigniantly observed brought THE MESSAGE to The Game as opposed to BRAGGADOCIO which shifted the emphasis to a narrower Narsissistic focus versus providing valuable and relevant Social Commentary. In my VIEW it was at the "Management Level" where a perceived "threat" was identified and the course of The Message was altered to a more "Gangsta" Persona and adopted to shift the focus. Next thing you know there was "Fabricated" East Coast/West Coast "BEEF" and "DIS" BOOOSHIT CLOUDIN' the picture that led to us LOSING some KEY PERSONALITIES and it never recovered. Once again We let some "Outsiders" interfere with OUR ART and we suffered as a result.

First off I'm 50yrs in age and you said 88' and i remember it actually being that year or prior bring on a flight from Texas and a whiteboy ask me did I listen to P.E....He was bumping P.E. on his headphones...I was 18 a private in the Army i was up on L L.. Whodini, Run D MC but Don't Believe the Hype...was ok....but never resonated Until Back in the year 1987 a whiteboy in mfking Texas of all places said man you should check them out they be rapping about your people...and I knew then it had to be something to this group.over the years and how the world has changed and much of what the music and entertainment industry world is. The early P.E. recordings and agendas proved correct the theory being under attack and as a nation held back systematically. And Professor Grif at one time did lecturing at Malcolm X college in Chicago my hometown where I live Now. he's proven to be 100in character ethics outreach n sacrifice for the struggle . I have him transcending past what P.E. became.
