I think part of the problem is that often times he interviews people who don't have much experience being interviewed beforehand, therefore during the longer pauses he has to often go out of his way to pull information out of them.

Anthony is a real hero. I served in Vietnam with him. I remember it was a hot day in that horrid jungle we were pinned down and suppressed under heavy machine gun fire we had called for reinforcements but no one was available. We were a group of 150 men surrounded by 28,000 hostile troops and they were moving on our position fast and then all of a sudden. we hear a chopper blades cutting through the hot jungle air, and to my surprise, Anthony and Captain bass came in on a helicopter, and literally dove from the helicopter, without a parachute landed on their feet with machetes, and they must’ve chopped down about 20,000 of the enemy troops within 38 minutes they saved us. I will never forget you, Anthony, and Captain bass
