I'm a RN in Bmore City (in our cities only trauma 1 ED) and we get a lot of gunshot victims/gang related shooting patients. Sometimes all these young men want is someone to listen to them. I sit, listen totally off record. You are right, talking like this is like therapy. Sometimes you gotta get it out. It's sad, like a totally different world they live in.
