Jeff Walker what dslr do you recommend with a budget of 1500 with a lens
@jeffwalker45908 жыл бұрын
Hey Connor! I'd highly recommend the Sony A6000 or A6300 with the Rokinon fisheye. Very light shoots 11fps. Check out Salty surf housings for one of the best setups.
@conorsheridan29988 жыл бұрын
Ok! But will a 16-70 be sufficient for wide angle?
@jeffwalker45908 жыл бұрын
16mm on a crop sensor A6000 is 24mm equivalent. It's wideish but I'd definitely go with a wider option if you can. Even the 10-18mm which I use all the time on the A6000 and A7R, excellent lens and still very small

Gidday Jeff, Awesome video and great to see a good visual comparison between a DSLR and the GoPro. I have only just taken the plunge into wave/surf photography (Landscapes are my usual style) utilising a GoPro 4, and was completely unaware of using the 4K video and pulling a shot from it :-) Really does help knowing this and luckily I am off to Byron Bay (Australia) for a few days this week and intend on spending quite some time in the water making the most of it. I do look forward to seeing more of your Vlogs. Cheers mate, Troy

Hey man. Thanks for the video! I really want to start photographing (I'm a surfer as well), but find it hard to start and choose a camera. Isn't the GoPro angle too wide? You have to e super close to get a shot aren't you ? As for the cameras, all waterproof cases include triggers ?

Thanks and I really liked your approach. Heading to Hawaii in May and really want a few shots in the waves. I plan on using AxisGo housing with cellphone and my Go pro 7 black. I will hope for the best. My question is about waves, positioning and safety. I'm getting the idea that you need to duck and time your waves or you will pay a price. Any tips on this would be greatly appreciated. Also, any places you think are good to try on Kuai with moderate wave sizes would also help. Love your editing also. Vibrant and clean. Also, in your opinion, does it matter what type of flippers to get? Thanks again and looking forward to some posts from you.

Hey Jeff. Was just curious how you decide on songs for your videos? Do you ever shoot through the viewfinder? Also what made you choose spl instead of other brands?
@jeffwalker45908 жыл бұрын
Hey Pabs. I've never shot through the viewfinder with a fisheye. It's so wide you only have to worry about keeping the horizon level. With longer focal lengths over 35mm the viewfinder becomes necessary. Happy Shooting!

Hey Andrew, thanks! I use manual focus while shooting waves. Preset the focus to 28 inches and shoot at F9-F11. On a fisheye, everything is basically in focus. Take a look at hyperfocal distance calculation to learn more. Or just ask me!

Hi Jeff from Jersey in the Channel Islands. This has to be the most informative wave video out there on KZbin, great job. One quick question if I may, I too have the KNEKT Dome Port for my Hero 3+. Please could you give me the secret to how you prep your dome port prior to entering the water to prevent the water droplet smears all over the video and images? Took some underwater video of dolphins a couple of weeks ago with the KNEKT Pole and Dome Port (Instagram @jayfire124). Still blown away by the quality of these small relatively cheap cameras.
@jeffwalker45907 жыл бұрын
Hey Jason! Love your Instagram, especially the milky way images. I've always used the lick and dip technique. Though sometimes I haven't done it in a while and drops still appear on the port. Must do frequently....which always appears quite odd when someone swims past you doing this!!

Which shot do you like better for GoPro footage? Burst mode or 4K?
@jeffwalker45908 жыл бұрын
Hey Josiah! I shoot both but definitely prefer the flexibility 4K 30FPS provides for using it as a video or pulling a still. The other plus of 4K is you can just leave it running for the 5 seconds of a wave. The burst has a delay, then only shoots for 1-3 seconds, often missing the best part of the wave. Hope this helps! 4K = 8MP and burst is 12MP. Not a huge difference. Cheers :)
