I've been trying to find more info on it but I heard that automakers are now required by the EPA (or similar body) to use water borne paints instead of solvent based paints, for their impact on the environment. The result is that the paint on all of the new cars, trucks, etc. is a lot thinner and is easier to scratch. It's not just automakers cheaping out

That actually makes a lot of sense. I do acknowledge paint as a wearable part of the car. So I can’t say I didn’t expect scratches to show up. Just not so soon lol. Despite the thinner paint, it still looks fantastic under the sun with a slight blue flake in it.

You’ll need to do ceramic coating. My front bumper essentially got destroyed by dirt chips in 2 months. Not even rocks just dirt. I got the bumper repainted with much better clear coat and 0 chips since the paint job. The stock paint is just really cheap on this car

I agree. My friend who recently purchased a Toyota Camry pointed out some orange peel in his paint. Not sure if it’s just the way they do things from factory at the moment. But I’m definitely glad I got mine done.

I got the raven black 7 months back. My buddy owns a ceramic coating company. Worth it. Not sure I would of done it without the discount. Lookin back I would pay full price now lol.

@@LEEMWEEZY tbh I have zero!!! But I keep it in a garage. The only issue is you get spotting if you don’t treat it well……and sometimes it’s tough to hand wash it so consistently!!

Same problem dude! I took it to the dealer to detail it and it came out looking even worse. Never trust the dealership!

My GR86 has a spot on the rear bumper that paint is just straight missing. Its a small 1 mm by 1 mm dot, almost like someone sneezed when painting it and just a tiny dot got messed uip. Fairly annoying but I've just decided to ignore it

Oof. I would probably try to see if the dealer can sell you some touch up paint? I haven’t done this myself, but I would plan on it if I had some rock chip my bumper from day to day driving.

If you are not happy with scratches you should instead of ceramic coating use ppf lol, i got ppfed gr86 black premium and there are no scratches

Nice! PPF was definitely something I was considering, but just a bit too expensive for me right now. A PPF on the front bumper alone was going to cost me about $1000. How much was the whole PPF for your car?

@@LEEMWEEZY i paid 3k€ whole car, but now i dont have to worry about scratches, i can scratch whatever i want it selfheals :D deffinitley worth it. Ceramic coating is usless unless you have 20 cars and for every day different one :D :D

I requested the dealer to not clean it or pull the plastic. When I showed up the paint hadn’t been touched. Was very thankful

Definitely should’ve done this. Especially since the dealership was 2 hours away from home. But in my defense, when they told me the car arrived, they had taken off all the plastic and washed it for me the day prior to pickup…
