I would say that your quote is the Amsterdam version of it. And the attitude leaves ample time to comment and cackle about things, even to the point their style of commenting is called "kankeren" ("to cancer"). Go to Rotterdam and people "live to work". I'm from neither, by the way, but if you need to get things done, ... . Prejudice. Sarcasm. Fun.

Nice video - you pronounce the name of Utrecht as if in Dutch it is spelled Oetrecht - the Dutch pronounce the u like the French do and in German that is written as ü. So to make a German pronounce the name of the city right, tell them it should sound like Ütrecht where the ch is pronounced more like the Austrians do and they will get it (even when they may fail at the pronunciation). So we Dutch and the French go after the Greek "u" (upsilon - often seen as "y" in originally Greek words in Western languages) while the Gerries take the Roman u as base in our respective phonetic writing. Utrecht city has a university with over 30,000 students and with a population of about 360,000, that would be felt everywhere, if no Covid limitations, even while the campus is at the city perimeter. You may find prices - as you commented on your lunch - for eating out and take-away food steep. Remember that brick-and-mortar shops and restaurants are a way to earn money with square meters of real estate. As the price of real estate in these old cities, especially the centers, is very steep, this is reflected in what you have to pay. And Utrecht being a students' city, these belonging to the 2% enrolled in one in the NL, your server, likely a student earning something on the side, may not feel they should do that job and act like that. You'll find universities with research-focused curricula and Ph. D. positions in Amsterdam (8%), Utrecht (8.5%), Leiden (22%), Groningen (16%), Nijmegen (14%), Tilburg (6%), Maastricht (15%), Rotterdam (5%), Delft (24.5%), Wageningen (35%) where the % number is the fraction of total enrolled university students (year x) as fraction of the population (year y) where x and y are between 2015 and 2021, inclusive. The Dutch education system, next to "university" still has another ternary education that offers a vocational/applied bachelor and these schools are called "hogeschool" (literally "high school"). As these university cities may also have such schools in their borders, the ternary student fraction of the population can be a lot higher. Use that to your advantage. Ask 18..25 young people if they study "here", and they can recommend a cheap but good outlet, where the other clients won't give you bad looks for bringing your children with you ;). That may be a lot easier than Tripadvisor

@@invalidavatar I can only speak for myself and don't think that skin color has to do with it. To me it doesn't have particular something negative. Also a lot of Dutch people emigrated to other countries like Canada, New Zealand, Australia and the USA. I also don't understand why this Russian family calling themselfs expats. I concider them more as immigrants since they mention in another video that they concider the Netherlands as their country and that it seems they arrange everything to stay here permanently. And of course the purpose of leaving Russia is also clear, I would leave too if I wasn't living in a country what is not matching with my ideas.
