June 2021 we finished my leg with a gorgeous expensive silicone covering matched to my skin tone. Unfortunately, due to multiple operations prior to the amputations, the weight was just the tipping point for me. I had the lightest prosthetic they ever made. The covering wasn't that heavy but just over what my residual limb could handle resulting in recurring muscle spasms and increased phantom pains. In July 2021, I broke my good leg, from the frequent removal of my prosthetic to massage out the muscle cramps from the additional weight. Inadvertent accident, not fully engaged.
We ended up taking off the covering but keeping the foam for shape and using a nylon. Yep a nylon. Well two to cover the different colours because my fiberglass is already painted skin tone. I wear dresses to work everyday.
Ten months later we have come up with a solution, they went through a few, that would not add hardly any weight. Not bad looking. No option to match skin tone but it matches my winter skin colour. It has been a snowy winter here. It's nice to not always have to cover the foam with nylons. I was afraid the foam would chip away. On the other hand I do not mind wearing the long nylons in the winter months!
Thanks to my amazing team.
