My wife's most self conscious momemts are when paying at the checkout line. It's rarely the clerk, but mostly the people in line rolling their eyes or mumbling under their breath. One new clerk raised her voice and when I helped the wife back into the car, I went back and stoically explained to the clerk what my wife's limitations were. The woman was much nicer after that. I noticed that my wife. Initially hesitated using the handicapped spaces when out by herself. I told her never to think that I was ashamed of her. I understand now what parents must go through when they have a special needs child who acts up periodically. We were getting on the bus after touring the Eze Village. Some people who were there waiting for the bus certainly saw my wife's difficulties when we were negotiating the stone paths. When the bus came, I blocked the doorway with my body as my wife struggled to get up. I could hear negative murmers but I did hear others explain to the complainers that she has trouble walking. We got a seat right in front and one woman touched my wife's hand and smiled. We took 2 weeks to visit all the towns around Nice, taking the train and busses all the time. We found that the Italians (Ventimillia and nearby) had the most compassion for the handicapped and elderly. We also later spent 2 weeks in Rome and small towns in Italy. Once the conductor held the train while he called ahead to arrange for a wheelchair at the Fumucino (Rome airport) stop. The assistant wheeled us to the Hilton while he made wheelchair arrangements for our next day's flight. The next day they picked us up at the hotel and bypassed the lines. We got exclusive service to the airplane that was parked in the middle of the tarmac. We were lifted with a giant enclosed machine and entered the airplane first via the door opposite the stairs the others would use. We were the first to board. (Alitalia). When we landed in Budapest, there was someone waiting for us at the jetway. He took us to the baggage area where we could see that the hotel transportation was already there (thank you George!). With a little planning it goes well. (Going to France again Oct for 2 weeks...I am proud to show off my beautiful lady!)

Nexercise(exercising the neck), is a treatment for your type of Parkinson's. It begins laying down, with sit-ups, but they are with just your head, after strength builds up in the neck to support your skeleton, the shaking should cease. So you start with the neck and progress the exercise routine through the rest of your body(you want to work all your muscle groups, so neck, then your back, then shoulders, arms, hands, etc) as you gain strength to. You should expect a proper straight posture with enough exercise(make sure it's enough, but don't hurt yourself, little steps towards the end goal is fine too), and no more shaking!! Eat foods to replenish your muscles, those with protein and maybe some fatty foods too, and drink cool, non-alcoholic beverages so you don't get dehydrated by increased exercise. Look at funny pictures of John Cleese, he has good posture! That's what you want to shoot for!

Thank you for this. I live alone with PD, and it is quite easy to isolate myself further due to self-consciousness. I hope to be having DBS To help manage the tremor.

Thanks Ian. .. I was ok with sharing my issue once diagnosed with my siblings but agree with all the other points you mention. Pam ... you are certainly not alone. Some days I just wish everyone around me knew my situation and then sometimes I'm not keen ... hard one. Thanks very much Ian for all you do ...much appreciated.

Thanks Ian, another well presented vlog. You do not have a thing to be ashamed including your voice which is clear and audible. As far as motivation goes i wonder why theherb you consume is. Not motivating you as i have found it did for me. Do keep inhaling and see if it will do the job like it has for me. I can’t speak at all these days and I do find myself Avoiding social situttations but it’s not because of shame. But from the sheer frustration of not being able to join in the conversation, be. Thanks, Marek - I do understand your frustration even though you feel that my voice is clear - it takes me a lot of time and effort to get it that way! I am experimenting with different strains to see if I can find one that helps my motivation - we shall see!
