We didn't like the taste of our water and added a Filterete filter under the kitchen sink. It takes up very little room, connects between the shut off valve and the cold water faucet, and there's no reduction in water pressure at the tap. They have two filters, one for just taste and one for certain chemicals in the water. Cartridge replacement is easy. We've had it for about 7 years. If you haven't checked it out it would be worth your while to do so. We considered RO until we found out that water is wasted in the process and we're on a meter and in Utah where we've been in a drought for several years. They also may have a whole house filter as well.

Had similar situation with the spouse leaving the workforce and staying home. Homeschooling was such a great choice for us - really benefitted from local organizations that support with materials and group activities.

Awesome decision about homeschooling your sweet little girl! Probably a tough decision but the rewards will be so worth it. You're good people, Mr. Jay. :)

as a lurker, I did enjoy the workout related stuff (even motivated me to buy a sandbag!) but I understand why it needs to be nixed.

Dig a well for "irrigation" purposes... then maybe you can accidentally cross pipes up that feed the water in your home. I am assuming that city water is the culprit.

Way to go for making the switch to one parent committing to raising a child in good values through homeschooling!

Plastic jugs never good for water not only due to the waste (which could be recycled), but the water also picks up Plastic particles you inevitably drink. Walmart uses a water filter system call Glacier that is owned & operated by Primo Water Systems (same water system sold at Lowes). You can purchase 3 or 5 gallon glass jugs (slight costly upfront) which cuts down on 1 gallon plastic jugs, but also increases weight. I figure weight is a great trade off from plastic particles, plus think of the exercise & future wood rack project (win win). I live in a town where the EPA sends out a letter every year telling you the water is safe to drink. Maybe it is, but I don't like the multiple replacing coffee machines per year or the white skim it leaves on boiling water, so we used the gallon jugs but with family of 7, o my did we go through about 20 per week. 3 gallon glass jugs was about the right weight for my teenage sons to manage best.

WONDERFUL!!! Absolutely wonderful....mainly the "personal" stuff, Jay! I am thrilled for you and your family that y'all are now free to have so much highly-cherished time together. The other news was interesting, as usual; however, in my opinion, it faded in comparison to the personal stuff. Just mighty, mighty proud of/for you! Thanks for sharing.

So, no more flipping tires?
@JayBates2
@JayBates2 2 жыл бұрын
Correct. That didn't last long. Too messy as the tires rub off easily. I still have the semi tire for the sledge hammer. That's still fun.

Maybe you don't have a basement, but I put my RO filter in the basement so it's out of the way and easy to access. And it if leaks, it's right next to the sump pump....

Basements are primarily a cold climate thing. My construction materials instructor in college said it's because the frost line in cold climates is already so far down it makes financial sense to go just a touch further for a basement. In the south, like where I live now, you can build a house on a 4" thick cement slab with 16" deep footers around the perimeter. I may have those exact numbers wrong but regardless it's just not cost effective for basements in the south. I guess all of that to say I don't have a basement haha.

It's amazing how little you need for effective workouts. Been using cinder blocks for years😂

Good to hear all is going well for you Jay. I had an RO system at my previous house and loved it. I also had a septic tank so I ran the waste to my storm drain to save the septic system. Bill

please look into a good multi carbon filter, from my looking reverse osmosis strips "any" goodness out of the water, multi carbon works well for me with a sediment filter first.

I installed a reverse osmosis filter about a year ago. It is great. Be sure to run a line to your refrigerator for the ice and water if you have one of those. It also cuts down on cleaning things like coffee makers and ice machines.

Henry, are you using it for dishes and is the demand ok?
@DearHenryA
@DearHenryA 2 жыл бұрын
@@Lee-qp6gf I only use it for drinking and cooking. My water is not terrible from the water company but they do have boil advisories "ALL" the time. I don't know if my area ever had one but I figured the filter would not hurt.

One has to be careful about hooking up a refrigerator ice maker to the RO system. Some refrigerator manufacturers have a minimum water supply pressure requirement for their ice makers.

@@williamellis8993 I did see that when I was researching what to buy. It looked like some kits included a small pump to increase the pressure and some others had that available seperately.
