Vlog 50 - Lexus GX470 Spoiler Install

We reached Vlog 50!! This vlog dives into the painting and installation of a rear spoiler on the GX. Although this video took longer than expected to produce, it was well worth the extra time in order to document the process.

Excellent video. I just purchased a Gx 470 that did NOT come with a spoiler. So, of course I bought the oem spoiler and am having it painted black. From watching your video, I am now confident I can do it myself instead of paying someonelse to do it. Thanks for letting me have a front row seat to your "spoiler installation" class. As an update to the listing you have linked, it ships completely differently now. 1. Comes as black plastic. Listing states it’s primed, but doesn’t seem like it 2. No foam pads or any weatherproofing material 3. Brake light wiring is pre-route and comes with a red lens color 4. Comes with 2 mounting holes on the spoiler, of which the outside holes match the trunk grommet holes. The screws have been replaced with threaded studs that you simply tighten the included nuts onto - seems pretty sturdy especially with some loctite 5. There is no center bump that covers the OEM brake light. You’ll have to cover it with something, annoyingly

Oh no, I'm sorry to hear this. That's the problem with some of these eBay finds. Sometimes they arent consistent over a few year time period. Hopefully you were still able to get things installed and are happy with your spoiler.

How many cans of paint did you use? I have an Ash Blue Mica 470, and code-matched cans of spray paint are $37 each so I want to avoid over/under buying cans. Can I get away with 1 can or do I need 2-3?

Great question and I guess I didn’t cover that in the video. I only went with one can and to make it lay well, I just made sure it had a good coat of primer.

Good question Anthony! It's holding up fantastic...the flex seal product is incredible. No leaks or issues with fitment quality.

Did you paint your roof rails ? And do you think the spoiler would look good in black too? I have to replace my damaged oem spoiler and thinking of trying different color than the factory silver. Might do grey rails , spoiler and lower body trim to generate two tone look

Yeah, I painted the roof rails in Vlog 14 with truck bed liner. I think black would look good...I almost went that route as I thought it might look good with a black roof rack.
