I've owned two of these over the last 6 years. You are correct about the quality. The first was on 06 GX470 that was t-boned in an intersection by a Ford Expedition. My wife and I along with our 5 year old daughter rolled over 6 times and walked away. So we purchased another 06 ASAP. I owe a lot to these SUV's.

A cousin of mine had a 2013 Camry SE-V6. He had an accident on I-75 here in GA and destroyed the front end. The wrecker truck driver was able to crank it up and drive it up on the wrecker. That goes to show, you can't kill a Toyota.

I own a 2009 GX470 that I bought 3 years ago with 200,000 miles on it that had been massively abused and neglected by its previous owner(s). The cherry on top of the neglect cake was them putting it through a fence in a snowstorm that removed half its front bumper, shattered the rear glass and caused some front structure damage and a bent tie-rod. They then continued to drive it for a few thousand miles without repairs and with bad alignment until the front tires were bald ..and then dumped the poor truck as a trade-in at the local GMC dealer. (I hope she bought a used Acadia because it’s what she deserves, lol.) I picked the GX up for next to nothing because of all the damage, it’s Christmas tree of warning lights and it’s abysmal service history and carfax that showed previous wrecks and almost no maintenance. I threw new tires on it, replaced the tie-rod, had the 100k overdue timing belt/pump service done and flushed all the fluids. A $5 gas cap cleared all the warning lights (jus Toyota doing Toyota things) and I replaced the windshield. 3 years later, it has 250,000 miles on it and it continues to live a hard life of fire trails, towing, snowstorms and it’s been rear ended twice, lol. 1st by a Grand Cherokee on ice and then by a Mazda Tribute a year later. Neither did any real damage beyond breaking its bumper reflectors and tow hitch trim panel thing (which was insane to see after the second hit because the Tributes airbag deployed), ..but at least it gets regular oil changes and preventative maintenance. So, 3 years and 50,000 miles of further abuse past 200k. It must be falling apart mechanically by now, right? I will now list all its parts that have failed and their repair costs. Shortly after replacing the tires just after buying the GX, the right rear air spring started leaking. I replaced it myself with a $36 replacement from Amazon. I started hearing clanking noises over bumps 2 years ago at 212,000 miles. $18 front sway-bar bushing set fixed it. (No labor, did myself.) I had its brakes done a year ago (I don’t have a TechStream needed for bleeding the brakes) and they found a leaking front caliper and a leaking CV boot. I had them replace both CV’s and the caliper as well as a TPMS sensor and oil change and alignment for $1,800. In the GX’s defense, the leaking boot was on the side that took the hit from the fence post that bent the tie-rod. Given that the truck was only $3k to begin with, I’d say it’s doing pretty dang good at 250k and it wears its body damage as a badge of honor.

Exactly Wizard: Since the Year of Our Lord "1983" forty years now, Toyota is the only vehicle manufactory we have purchased from. Camry with 400,000 miles, Corolla with 600,000 miles, Tundra with 500,000 miles and many more from the 80's, 90's to today. I own one American made vehicle a 1980 Oldsmobile Cutlass Brougham that had only 3,000 miles when we took a trip to Disney World, Florida and our 8-day trip turn in 13-day for my brand new Cutlass transmission left us stranded. So when fixed it went straight to the nearest Toyota dealer and was traded in for a 1983 Toyota "Black Series" 4X4 SR5 Truck and we never looked back since. Toyota, nothing better in the industry!!!

2 things.. the dash's on the gx 470 were notorious for cracking, there was a factory recall on them. This veh prob had it done. Also, the wood is real, albeit a very thin veneer, but real nonetheless. I have one and I love it. Best car i've ever owned. I also own a 06 LX470 too. Both great

The related 4th gen 4Runner also had a recall for cracked dashes, but that was for the early models. With the mid-cycle refresh (2005, IIRC) they improved the plastic, and they no longer had issues. Being a 2008, this dash is probably original. Frame rust is another common problem with these, though there was no recall or TSB, as with the Tundra. It's good to see the frame on this one is in such great shape.

I just hit over a MILLION kilometers on my bought new 2005 Land Cruiser 120 Prado this summer, which this is, but I got the diesel. Currently sits at 1,013,000 kilometers, give or take - never EVER missed a beat. Engine is not touched! Even the valve covers haven't been taken off, since they have not leaked. Turbo is all original. Engine wise only the injectors needed a change at around 400k, 2nd pair is now over 600k! Otherwise it got transmission rebuild at 800k, alternator at around 600k, and the rest is just fluid changes, pads, rotors - that's it! Also insanely capable, and insanely well put together, no rattles, no squeaks for that mileage and age... Can't say much more, the BEST there is. Hands down!

Very nicely done video! I've owned my 2004 GX470 since new, and have maintained it meticulously by the book, ever since. I don't put on that many miles, my 18 year old 2004 has 108,000 miles on it now. I've only used Mobil One full synthetic oil since the first oil change. I just had an oil analysis done a few months ago at my last oil change . I sent the oil sample to zengine and got back the test results that showed the internal engine parts are showing practically no wear at all, based on what's in the used oil after 5,000 miles. This Lexus is the most reliable, best built vehicle I have ever owned. It still looks like new inside and out and drives like new.

Me and my parents have had only had German and Lexus cars and we keep up with the maintenance and they don't have problems like you see with people that shouldn't be owning a luxury car and can't pay the maintenance. that's not bmw, mercedes, Lexus, etc fail that's the buyers fault that they bought it knowing they can't afford it.

I owned a 2007 GX470 that I bought CPO from Lexus in 2010 and had it until this year; got it with 44K miles on it and when I sold her, she had 169K miles. The only thing that ever failed on her was the alternator, but other than that the car was rock solid. My wife has an SUV so we sold mine and I bought a Tesla Model 3 for my 50+ mile daily round trip to/from work, but if I'm ever in the market for an SUV for myself again, it'll be another GX.

I was looking for one of these and ended up settling on a 14 GX460. Couldn't find any GX470s in my area that weren't sketchy. About 3 months after I bought my 460 I saw a 470 on the dealers website for sale, relatively low mileage, 1 owner, for 10 grand less! I was upset that I didn't wait longer however I am still beyond satisfied with my 460. A plus to the 460 is that it has a better factory radio and no air suspension, and no timing belt. The seats in those old Lexus models are like no other though, definitely more comfortable than my 460. My uncle has an 07 RX350 with 50,000 miles, im trying to convince him to sell it to me but he loves it too much!

The Lexus equivalent of the Land Cruiser Prado! What a great vehicle that will last (with maintenance) for many hundreds of thousands of miles. The only things about that unit that I didn't like were 1). Premium fuel requirement, 2). Timing belt (vs chain), and 3). Headroom (I don't fit in it). So, when I retired, I bought a large Land Cruiser (low MPG, regular fuel). That said, if I would have fit, this would have been on my short list.

Premium fuel is recommended not required. We've put over 40k using cheap ol 87 octane. Thousands of miles pulling a 4000lb RV, flat land, mountains, 100°f to -25°f, city and rural, you name it. No issues. 05 and newer are vvti and that takes care of any knock keeping the engine safe. Yes premium fuel will allow for a little more timing which will result in a little more power and efficiency but the gains are very marginal. Certainly not enough to offset the cost difference of the premium fuel.
