I’m confused why you don’t just get drop cloths for the floor? That’s so much cheaper than hiring someone. Also you can just spray paint the pulls to be bronze or black or distressed gold or something different. So easy to do!

Love what you’re doing. My best advice to you is when talking about what you’re doing, use the term we and not I. It is a huge indication of team! It shows that you are a we now and showing Jordy his opinion matters. Trust me, my spouse always says singular and it really makes me feel insignificant.

Put grout over the tile. I just did mine and it’s so beautiful and earthy. Looks just like your rendered finished wall upstairs but it’s cheap way to get the same result. Just remember to seal with a lime wash sealer. Hi from Australia 🇦🇺 x

You could etch the glass tile at the wet bar. Keeps the glass but makes it more earthy and natural. Theres a chemical that you would apply to the glass that would mattify it.

It depends on when it's put up. If it's newer, it's more likely to be more stick and peel than how it used to be done. Easier to put up and take down. If you have wallpaper that you had to put the glue stuff on, it's going to be harder.

Money saving heck idea: I think the current pulls have a more timeless shape, they’re very mid century with being so rectangular, so an idea to get a more vintage feel for them would be to spray paint them white or black or even a textured spray of a light neutral to add in earthy feels. However, I do love the print on the vintagey ones you like, so cute!

I had a swing in my house in Austin and I absolutely loved it - the whimsical vibe is so fun. Someone down below mentioned a terracotta color for the wall behind the desk; I agree that would look so nice, especially with the art you have in your current guest bathroom. I think painting the desk with either white textured paint that would be a nice callback to the area around the fireplace, or pulling out the current desk and replacing it with a custom-cut piece of driftwood that you could stain to match whatever stain you want to eventually put onto that mantlepiece wood would give the room visual cohesion and a beachy, chic vibe.

For the kitchen pulls, maybe something that coordinates with your new light fixtures. I love anthropologie’s pulls! For the olive desk nook, I think painting it all one color will look much more elevated and look custom built-in-like. In terms of color, charcoal sounds fun. I would also consider a dark sand or lighter chocolate tan type hue. Dark enough but earthy enough to match your vibe.

I only realised this was a European thing recently but if you can find someone that can do it, install a heated towel rack on that bathroom wall! Especially since Jordy is a surfer, that way all his wet things will dry super fast! I'd go for blue/green for the bridesmaid dresses, the coffee tone may make the vibe a little too dark, while those other colours keep the earthy vibes but with a brighter light. I would paint the table in the accent wall, but not the same exact colour of the wall. Maybe some other "wooden" paint which would go better with it. For the bedroom door, consider a sliding barn doors. I find them beautiful and think they add character without being too invasive. I do like wood in general, so I love the integration between white or off white and wood.

Congrats on your new house! I have a few suggestions and a small bit of info for you. Your walls appear to be the standard thickness which means they were framed with 2x4s. However, they were actually 1.5x3.5 inches and are most likely the standard 16” spacing between. On the wall where you want to do some cutouts, that info may be helpful. If that’s not a load bearing wall then you can make your cutouts any size you’d like. In the bathroom that you want to put in a medicine cabinet, once again, it depends on if the wall is load bearing or not. You can buy very large medicine cabinets with multiple doors. Be sure you get quality glass/mirrors. There are inset or flush mount options. You shouldn’t have any trouble finding either. Home Depot and Lowes carry them. In the room you plan to paint dark avocado green, it’s a good idea to prime the blue before painting the green so it doesn’t look different from the upper space that is a very light color and easy to paint over. You can buy inexpensive plastic from the paint department to cover your carpet. Tape the plastic to your baseboards to help hold it in place. The same plastic is great to cover furniture, cabinets, etc. I’m looking forward to seeing your finished product! OH! I almost forgot! If you have rooms with very little storage and not much room for adding furniture or cabinets, you can cut into your walls vertically, remove the drywall, add shelves (3.5” deep) and put a door (wood, glass, mirror) that you push to open and push to close. If it’s a load bearing wall, you can do multiples but if it’s not then you can do a wider space. Happy renovating!

I love all your design ideas Michel! For your "pocket shelves" aka niches you might have to build whats called a "false wall" out from the existing wall and put your niches in that, rather than cutting into the existing wall since they often contain framing, electrical, etc. it might also look cool to cut a niche for the piano as well so it's inset in the wall with lighting above. just a thought! 😁

Just tape down a drop cloth or some old sheets- that's all the professionals will do to protect your carpet anyways. And as for cutting, instead of taping everything, use a clear laminate sheet, or a manilla folder, etc., and line it into the crease. Then slide the folder/sheet along the crease with your brush to create the perfect line. There's lots of tutorials on how to do this on tik tok! So much quicker than painter's tape.
