I don't think she meant it's grubby to not have those things done - she probably meant what anyone else would mean; that her hair is often messy/dirty, she doesn't wear well put together outfits etc.. i think she was just stating that she's often a grub, but felt like pampering herself a bit.

I was so messy when I was young. I personally think a lot of younger people are. It’s because they’re always out & about, appointments, work, getting food, dating, clubs, etc., etc. etc. Once you get a bit older, most people start to settle down & spend more time at home. That makes you want to have a tidier house, whether you have kids or not, are married or single, like to entertain in your home or not...we stop going out as much as we did.
