Kandy, I’m a nurse and im also 46 so I’m close to the same age as you and I want to tell you how proud I am of you for being strong enough to get out of a job that didn’t make you happy🥰 you absolutely deserve to be happy in every area of your life🥰🥰 when I was in nursing school, my nursing instructor told our class to never settle for a job that doesn’t make you happy or that makes you feel miserable because we spend more than half of our lives at work so it should be a place and environment that you feel good about and not like you are being forced into a corner with no human interaction !!! I am soooo happy for you!!!!❤❤

We are close in age. I'm 49. Like you, I was raised with the attitude that if you have a job, you keep the job as long as you possibly can. No matter how miserable it is, you just suck it up and keep working there. I now work around/with many people from a much younger generation, ages 18-19. Their attitude is the complete opposite. They often believe that if something is the slightest bit unpleasant for you, then you should quit. I think the healthier approach...both personally and for our culture as a whole... is somewhere in the middle. No, you can't just stop going to work or quit your job because you don't like one detail, or it's a little boring, or you just don't feel like showing up this week. But keeping a job that literally makes you miserable doesn't serve anyone either. It impacts your mental health, your relationships, and in the end, it will impact the service you provide the people you're being paid to serve as well. I wouldn't advise anyone to stay in a situation like that unless the alternative were worse (like having no money saved or other money coming in, and no other options.)

There is absolutely nothing wrong with quitting a job that turns out poorly. I did it twice, once in 2016 (to be closer to home; the commute was horrible) and once in 2021 (received an offer paying 30% more a week after starting) and never looked back. Life is too short to wake up and do something that makes you miserable all day. This was an opportunity to learn more about what you like and don't like in a workplace!

Things are going rocky for me right now, but after the past I had 10+ years of therapy to get over a bad bringing up. I learned the basics in life, and if you're not true to yourself, you'll not only make yourself miserable, but eventually you'll make Cody feel the same way. You are such a happy go lucky gal and I think you made the right decision. Don't feel like you let people down. Be proud that you made the right decision for your age, and going forth you'll be the happier for it. Walk tall, Kandy! life is a long journey, and these things are always going to come along like stones along a pathway. Side step them and you'll walk on firm footing and you won't fall. You and Cody are wonderful together. Your look at life is awesome. enjoy each other. You only go around once. Life is not a dress rehearsal. Hugs to you both and the fur babies.

Good luck on your new job search, maybe you could be a great administrator. I worked at a temp staff recruitment company a long time ago and did the admin and payroll for all temp staff. first of all, love your channel - you are just super relatable to me and i truly look forward to your videos! 😬😬 second, don't feel bad for leaving that job - sometimes things aren't good fits and that includes working environments! i started a new job in march of last year and almost immediately something just felt "off" and i couldn't put my finger on it right away - but it got to the point where i was questioning if i was even in the right career (of 20 years mind you, lol) because i legit felt icky every workday and was having almost like imposter syndrome or something... eventually, i realized it just wasn't a good fit (which had never happened to me before - i've always loved and thrived in previous workplaces) and so i decided to leave for another opportunity 5 months in... not my MO - i like to plant roots! LOL, but i just could not stay there... i've been with the new company going on 9 months now and OMG = best decision ever! i love where i am, what i'm doing, the people i work with, the whole shebang! and i no longer question a new career! or question my abilities! i know for sure the same will happen for you!!! 🙂 we spend too much time at work to be miserable there - for whatever the reason! work sucks, who doesn't want to hit lotto to never have to work again, lol...but we can still find happiness and fulfillment if we are in the right place... sending lots of positive vibes your way as you navigate to the next (and fitting) path of your career journey! 💜

Kandy what on earth are you talking about hun?! Why would we or I be disappointed in you?! I’m proud of you! 5 or so years ago you would’ve pushed your mental health into the ground trying to please those people and others around you by sticking it out, & been completely miserable in the process. I’ve said to my nieces and nephew from the time they were teenagers, I don’t give a flying jot what you want to do when you’re older, garbage collector, doctor, lawyer, office worker.. all I want is for you to be happy in your job, because speaking from experience, there is NOTHING more demoralising than working in a job & environment that makes you miserable. Sure, money helps in a job, but so long as you have enough to get by, everything else will work itself out, but your mental health is so important in a work placement. The people you work with can make or break a work placement and from what you’ve said, that didn’t help your old work place environment at all. I couldn’t imagine being shoved in a cubicle and feel like I was constantly berated rather than congratulated and gently critiqued, & essentially isolated from any human interaction. I’d go stir crazy. No, you made the absolute right decision. This shows your growth if nothing else Kandy, use it as a learning experience, you now know what you’re looking for moving forward! Xx

Hi Kandy, do you mind me asking what anti depressants you are on? I just went through the same thing as you wanting to get off of mine and it went horribly. I was able to cry, and I did a lot, but the flip side of that was I also felt very agitated and irritable so easily. I got into major arguments with my hubby which was not normal, to the point where I wanted to leave and that's def not me. I figured out if I want to get off of them, I would have to do it very slowly and pay close attention to how it's affecting me. So I decided to one day, take half a dose and the next day, a whole dose, at least for a couple of weeks and if I'm doing ok with that, then I'll try 1/2 a dose every day for a few weeks and then maybe start doing that every other day and see what happens. If I see that I start feeling super irritable and agitated again, I'll go back to where I wasn't feeling that way. I realize it's a very slow process to wean off of anti depressants, and you need to give your brain time to adjust to the change. But I want to get off of them so badly. I hate having to be on them.

I’ve had to quit 2 jobs very quickly because they were not the right fit for me. One was very similar to your story and I am in the same field as you. First one I quit was after about 2.5 weeks, they severely underpaid me ($20,000 a year and I was training their main accounting person lol) the owner was a complete pig. The first day I met him he called everyone homophobic slurs. The nail in the coffin was them trying to make me work alone on Christmas Day as a new employee because I didn’t get PTO yet. Ok then don’t pay me for the day lol? Second job was so much like yours. It was for a private jet company, I was working accounts payable. The whole entire department quit except for one woman, she was supposed to train me. She took 5 minutes and said these are the systems we use, you’ll figure them out. They had me making extremely important decisions on mechanical parts for jets. Like I had to decide which was more important to buy (I knew nothing about jets). The person that was supposed to train me kept earbuds in all day and didn’t speak a single word to me other than to tell me she was also going to quit once I figured this out and to be prepared for mandatory unpaid overtime every weekend. Also be prepared for mandatory unpaid overtime after work at home each night. I quit after 2 days in an email to the controller telling her that it was not a good fit. Now I finally found a job I’m happy with and I make SO MUCH more money and get amazing benefits. The right job is out there!
