I recently had a wall knocked down in my house and a steel support beam put in, plus an internal and external door blocked up. It cost £3700 and this included the cost of the steal and plastering to tidy everything up. Firstly it’s worth contacting a few builders for quotes just to get some ideas. If it is supporting wall you’ll likely need a structural engineer to draw up plans and confirm size of steel, we found our own engineer (cost around £150) but your builder may have one they use regularly and include it in the price. You’ll also need it signed off by building regulations through your local council, this cost I think £300ish but you should be able to look into this on their website etc. I can’t help with potential planning permissions etc if you extend as we’ve not extended the property just knocked through kitchen to diner.

we did a renovation, breaking a few walls down and re-designed most of the ground floor, it was a nightmare as we had two cowboy builders during the whole thing it took over a year, but we have needed up with a beautiful very big kitchen dinner, bathroom and utility room and a great garden . What i recommend for u try and don't do any more work on the kitchen, save, save... if u can help it, as it is expensive, when you add up all the costs to the finish product. Do a lot of research as good builders have awaiting time of a year and half and they are expensive we live in Kent . PS... we saved about 30k due using cowboys as valued after and average quotes we had b4 the job started. Have some vision is great you tube channel to watch. Good luck u r going to end up with a beautiful space.

Hi Shade, i have grown sweetcorn before with reasonable success, but yes, the more sun the better. You should do quite well as your further south than me I'm in the northeast, it's definitely not as hot here during summer good luck ❤

We had a load bearing wall removed and steel beams put in to support 2 years ago. It cost £1000, then £250 paid to our local council to pass It through building regulations. You will need structural calculations either sourced separately but in our case our builder had his own structural engineer (the council asked for evidence of this). You don't need planning permission for this work.

Hello, it is always a good idea to contact your local council BUILDING CONTROL department and run through what you would like to do. Make notes first. They will advise on the basics of what is required for the works you describe and how to proceed. I have always found them helpful. Once you know what is legally required approaching builders for a quote will put you in a better position. Some builders are better than others let's put it that way and may suggest doing things which are not required just to inflate the costs. If you embark on any building work costing £1k plus do not pay upfront, pay as the work is done. Have done extensions renovations and interior works many many times so have experienced the good and bad. Professional advice costs so check what these will be before hand. Having your greenhouse now would be useful for all the plants you are planning to grow. Somewhere to put them. You will be very busy growing so many items.
