I dropped out of college today. I only had three-four semesters left, but I was getting a degree in something I hated, it was too late to change my major, I was spending thousands and thousands of dollars on a worthless degree... I decided to not go to cosmetology school so I could experience "college" with my friends, but now I'm dropping out of college to (hopefully) pursue cosmetology. Life's too short to hate the life you're living.

I did the same thing, except later in life. I started school at 26, ended up spending 4 years getting 2 Associate Degrees thinking I wouldn't get my Bachelors, but then I decided to pursue my Bachelors and a year later with 4 semesters left to graduate, I decided to drop out and start cos school. At this age I have worked so many jobs like being a social media manager for a start-up company, so I know for sure what I hate and that is being in an office with a strict schedule. Knowing what I didn't want to do made me realize my Bachelors would be as worthless as my 2 specialized Associates. So, almost 6 years and $50k in student loans later I'm finally making a choice to do what I love. This is the time to study vocational skills; degrees are worthless unless they are specialized. Vocational skills are lacking in the labor industry and are now paying more than most jobs you can get with a general Bachelors degree.

I just searched cosmetology school onto youtube and came across your video I am somewhat relating to you I am currently going to college and not feeling like I am doing the right thing. I do love my classes but then I think of my future and feel it is not for me. Like it is not me. I kind of want to apply for a cosmetology school/class but I am scared that I will be letting my family down. I also deal with depression and anxiety but once I start to play with makeup and do my hair I feel so much better. I cannot emphasize how much this is so me, I struggled with college and completely disliked it the minute I started, I've always been into hair and makeup and used to be obsessed and loved doing others people's hair and makeup and I am now trying out cosmetology school, I start next month actually and to be honest this very inspirational and really help me, thank you.

thank you for this vlog and talk! i'm only 14, so i obviously have no knowledge in how college is like or high school(well, i just started being a freshman this year!) but i was worried about college because i'm the type of person to go into nothing but chronic depression, a bunch of anxieties, and obviously stress. i stressed so much really early just choosing something i'm passionate about and so much more. but we have curriculums to choose and cosmetology was one of them. i'm very glad to choose it because it seems very positive, very fun, you get to use your creativity, you get to do something that not only will make you happy but to other people too. not trying to be stereotypical but i have asian parents and obviously they tend to be strict so i always assumed they would want me to go to college, but they were fine with the career path i chose and i'm super happyyy about it because right now, i have straight up 100% in cosmetology as my grade.

I hope you're enjoying cosmetology school! it's tough but so worth it! my story is similar to yours I wanted to go to cosmetology school out of high school but was pressured by family and friends to go to college and get into the medical field. I went ahead and did it because I thought it was the right thing to do. So I went to college and got a job but I knew it wasn't something I wanted to do permanently. I spent years going from job to job, and never being happy. It's a good thing you figured this out now I had a whole decade (and some) after High School until I started cosmetology school. I started last August and this is my last week of school. congrats

I am 16, I am in online school to graduate early (I have like 10 classes left instead of 16) and after I graduate I am going straight into cosmetology school and I'm so excited to take such a huge leap at such a young age. Like 17 or 18 and working full time at a salon is such a dream.

Thank you, I needed this. I feel much more confident and inspired just listening to you. I was a pharmacy technician, a miserable one at that. I finally found the courage to just quit. I wasn't motivated to get up for work anymore and I kept having mental breakdowns. I held back since high school, I'm 21 now. But I finally enrolled and will be starting next week, i'm nervous yet excited. I've always watched videos without signing in a youtube acct but i just made one just to subscribe to you. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. I've loved hair and makeup since I was a kid and always wanted to do it. My issue has always been that I was afraid of failure. I was afraid that I wouldn't be good enough and that I wasted everything for something I wasn't cut out for. I had that mindset that I was to go to college and pick a profession that would bring me a steady income and a life with minimal struggle. Especially coming from a low income, Mexican family I just wanted to make them proud. Now I'm starting to realize that picking a profession for money instead of passion will lead me nowhere. I think in ready to take a step foward and start my journey into the cosmetology world. Thank you again!

Oh my gosh I needed to watch this. I’ve wanted to do cosmetology since I was 16, and I’m 23 now. I dropped out of high school at 18 and never got my GED or anything, just working temporary jobs since then that I know I’ll never love and as time goes on I just feel upset in myself for not chasing the dreams I thought I’d be doing already. I thought I’d be graduated and working by now, and it still brings me down when I really think about it because I still know this is what I wanna do. I’ve ALWAYS gotten compliments from people of all ages on my hair, they love it and I even inspired little girls to wear fake colored extensions from seeing mine. It seriously brings me such joy to have a small impact like that and I work fast food at the moment, and that’s all it took to inspire these girls!! For all I know I’m making a life long impact and who knows, they may be like us in the future. Anyway, I just wanna say I absolutely loved this video and what you said about how it’s never too late and you felt the same way as I do now, and look at you now. Accomplishing your dreams! ❤️ You’re my current inspiration, I wanna do it like you and get my GED asap. My mom and fiancé say I can do it, and I hope to start after I move to a bigger city within this year. Even if I start next year I’d be so happy! You’ve gotten me excited and motivated all over again. Thanks girl! 😊 PS I would also love to be a barber, my man can grow a full blown beard and dark thick hair, so he’s great practice and we can save at least $35 a month on his haircuts if I did them myself for the rest of my life haha. 😁

I took a year off after I graduated and then went to college for one year when I was 20; it sucked ass. I still didn't know what I really wanted to do, and my local school offered close to nothing, so I quit after barely making it a year. Fast forward 6 years, and I finally decided (after considering cosmetology since I was in 8th grade lol) to sign up for classes. I start next Thursday and I'm so excited to get my life and future career started! :D

I went to school for something else I liked , ECE early childhood education.. but tbh i dont even want to be a teacher i’m a nanny now. Totally felt the same as you did when I left my study for what I'm doing now. I didn't want to be doing a 9-5 job with stress up the bum and just wasn't happy with it anymore! So I left, took time off and went into Nail Technology - now I love my job and couldn't be happier with what I'm doing! So glad you made the choice that will make you happy and where you want to go :D

It is expensive :( But there are always financial aid options... loans, grants, etc. I think if it's something that you're passionate about, you shouldn't let the cost stand in your way! Trust me, I'm going to be in so much debt after this, and I'm scared as hell because of it, but I knew I would be so unhappy with myself if I didn't just finally push myself to do this.

It was like fate! Lol :) If I can give you any advice when it comes to picking a school, it's this: I thought I was going to hate the long drive, but it honestly didn't bother me because it was so worth it. Sure, you could go to a closer school, but if that school isn't going to be as good, open up as many opportunities for you, give you the best education possible, and make you extremely excited to get up every morning, why waste your time and money? A lot of stylists told me that "it doesn't really matter what school you go to, because they all teach more or less the same stuff" and "they're just preparing you for the state boards and not actually teaching you much" and "you learn the most when you're actually in a salon anyway." But I loved my experience at Metro and don't regret it for a second, because the experience was just so positive.

I’m so glad I found this video! I’m 24 and I’ve recently graduated from college with my bachelors degree in business. I got a degree in business because I never really knew what I wanted to do and thought that it would be a great general degree to get. But I just don’t have a passion for the business industry and can’t see myself building a career from it. Honestly I think that a business degree will intertwine perfectly with a cosmetology license! There's so much more to this industry than just being good at hair, so having a background in business, marketing, communications, etc. just gives you a greater advantage! :)

I'm in my junior year of undergrad and I'm studying for the LSAT. I wanted to be an attorney since I could talk & the opportunity is right in front of me! Girl I graduated high school and I was supposed to go to college straight after but there was some complications and I wasn't quite sure yet either of what I wanted to do( Pressing when everyone around you already knows what they want plus the people I live with are pushing me to pick one. I'm a passionate person when it comes to my work. I'm not gonna do something that I don't want) But I've decided that Imma sign up for Cosmetology coming this summer. Lol I'm anxious and am prone to depression, I'm also antisocial, I'm trying to be more open it sucks cuz my anxiety really gets to me, but this video helps to cool down my nerves. Thank you

I’m so thankful I watched this . I’m going thru a lot and I’m 20 with a 8month old so I’m stressed that I’m losing my job . I started getting depressed and crying and I kept thinking what if I say fuck cosmetology .. go to school and get a degree. I expressed interest in attending a school an hour away for me as well. I wanted to go to Paul Mitchell but they don't have any schools near me (and I can't afford to move) but TSPA is a good school as well. Any tips on branding myself for social media after I graduate? My biggest tip for that is don't wait til after you graduate to start branding yourself. Start your professional instagram while you're still in school. I started doing a cosmetology series sharing tons of tips for new stylists, and I'm going to share more social media tips in my video about "how to gain clients" - so keep an eye out for that :)

Don't worry about being shy! Just fake it til you make it!! I used to be THE MOST HORRIBLY SHY person, and then one day I just started pretending that I was outgoing and a "people person" - there were sooooo many times when I would feel so awkward because I just wouldn't know what to say. But eventually, I got over that, and now I really would describe myself as outgoing, which is so weird lol

I originally started college as an English major to become an author, but I learned it wasn't for me, and I changed my major to sociology in hopes that I will work in marketing, media, or youth service.
