I just bought a house and rented 2 of the 3 apartments. I remodeled one completely and I updated the appliance in another. However, I did not clean the apartments before renting them out. They weren't moldy, but they were dusty from the renovations. I tried cleaning it before my tenants moved in, but I after an hour of dusting, sweeping, and vacuuming the dust nearly took me out. I ended up sick for a week from the dust. However, other than dust from renovations, the place was clean and I let the tenants know before signing that i could not clean it because of my allergies. I did not have the funds to pay professional cleaners, but after watching your video, I will be more mindful before renting out my place again.

A lot of people think that Renting is a source of just passive income. It isn’t quite as passive as just collecting money for doing nothing. The landlord is responsible for the upkeep of their property. If it is mold prone, they should have measures in place to deal with that whether that be with a dehumidifier or a maid service etc. Also, some people rent as if they would only be renting to natives and basically “they understand how things are.” In my opinion if you only want natives you should specify that. As foreigners, the expectations are higher because there are certain standards that may not be upheld in that country but it is a basic standard. People also forget that you’re paying to stay on their property. Whether they uphold certain standards or not, the rent you pay doesn’t change. So if the person renting is making reasonable requests… they are paying and those requests should be honored. You did the right thing and as you sad, stand up for yourself and don’t feel pressured into things you know aren’t for you.

I had a similar experience in barbados and am currently still in this apartment, will hopefully move out for september! Your standards are not too high AT ALL!

Your standards are just right i had similar experience with a landlord not for how the apartment looked but the landlord the man wanted to be all in my personal space as a family and i had my partner .Left there after 3 months . Move i agree people are disrespectful.

I also believe the state of the mattress was a red flag. As a landlord, I would have felt uncomfortable renting an apartment with discolored mattress. Just like I bought all new appliances for my apartments I would have bought a new mattress

You are absolutely right! A landlord should clean before someone moves in. I guess the mould will develop because of the changing climate. Steups, your standards are not too high!! That’s basic needs and rights of anyone renting. If only we could move your Trinidad apartment and landlord to Bermuda 🤣 Change apartment and real estate agent!

Youre not a nit picker! You have standards, plus you like what you like, youre paying for this you should be comfortable and happy. Some landlords is absolutely ridiculous 🙄 I would hate to do that to one of my tenants. Girl you did the right thing! Follow your gut. And yes your energy was off, i felt bad for you 😢 Omg am allergic to mold & all its relatives 😮.. girlll dont let these people trying to minimize your horrible experience Your STANDARDS IS NOT HIGH!! Im glad you gave it up, the vibe was not right. What kind of landlord doesnt clean and all that. And your relationship with your landlord can make or break your experience. And yes an apartment is def supposed to be cleaned to move in

Firstly, I am so sorry to hear that this was your experience. Secondly, kudos to you for standing up for yourself and for your rights as a person and consumer. Thirdly, you work damn hard for your money and should spend it on what YOU believe to be worthwhile and of your standards. Things are too expensive to be accepting and tolerating mediocrity. Nonsense! Chupz eh! Many of us have ended up in less than favorable situations because we were afraidto speak up. I really hope you find something that speaks to you and makes you feel comfortable and happy. Stay safe and get a new agent!

buhwahdeass ! This landlord full of ISH, hopefully you find a better space. You are well within your right to abandon that lease with all those issues. I am speaking from a LANDLORD in Bermuda perspective and that person is a sorry excuse of a landlord. You sound like your from WADADLI , if so. So am I , ottos meh say.
