thank you for making this video! i felt like i wasn't really progressing (and losing confidence because of this) until i ended up taking a korean skill level type test (after watching the portion on confidence) and did so much better than i thought i did. i may not be where i want to be after 3 years but i'm a lot farther than i thought i was. thank you for inspiring me to take the test because now i'm very motivated to continue studying even harder.

I definitely feel the same as you do with finding Korean fun before you moved to Korea vs burnout once you'd moved. For me, learning German was fun and exciting before I moved to Germany, but when I moved I HAD to learn to an advanced level in order to survive and get a job there. So in the end it felt like a chore and now I just maintain the language and don't have lessons (although maybe this will change in 2024 because I recently moved back to the UK after 4 years in Germany, so I probably have to make more of an effort to maintain German now).

Oh my goodness!! Your Korean! 🤩All of your videos inspire me -- but this one inspired me extra! Seeing you speak Korean so fluidly gives me hope that one day I can hopefully get my Japanese to the same level! Asian languages are so much harder to learn, but watching you makes me feel like it's possible. Also this video was so cozy. 🥰 Love hearing you speak in Korean! So pretty ❤

Yes 연애의 참견 is SO great. I think only a few episodes are available in the US on Netflix, but it's also all free on youtube, and almost everything is subtitled in Korean on the screen. That actually reminds me that I haven't watched it in a while... I need to catch up!

It's sooo entertaining~~!! I love using it as a reference on how to express my thoughts on dating too~ They do a good job of sharing their opinions while still being polite~ I feel like my vocabulary is still pretty limited, so I can come off as being too blunt on potentially sensitive topics 😓

It's quite interesting to know that 서강대학교 has a good Korean language program! That's my main choice to apply as an engineering exchange student, so knowing that their language program is good will definitely incentivize me to take Korean classes there.
@NataliaGarza
@NataliaGarza Жыл бұрын
Yes, they are known for their students having good speaking skills. HOWEVER, I'm pretty sure the Korean classes for exchange/university students are run by a different department than those for the language school. Usually language school classes and university classes have different curriculums and teachers/professors. Just something to keep in mind!!

I just checked with their language school (KLEC), and they said that they run the classes for university/exchange students, which means that the classes are indeed the same! I think the main issue now would be a matter of getting into the right class. I've heard that you might need to be an asian studies student to get into the classes? Not entirely sure about that though, I will be talking with my advisor about this one.@@NataliaGarza

You had said you only had heard good things of the two language learning programs you listed (and I'm assuming KU as well). I was looking into SNU's program, but I was wondering if there were specific things that made you not list that one as well. Thank you for your content, I love it so much! It motivates me a lot to see your vlogs (and makes me jealous, but that's ok).

Hi! And greetings from Texas!!!Thank you for your recommendations!! Very new and I’ve been teaching myself with free content. If you had to choose one app or source to spend money on, what would you choose? Mem rise seems like a good option and around $100-$200 is perfect but since I’m new I’m sure there are so many others I just don’t know about.

hey just checking but there's no way to import 슈취타 / 뱀집 into lingq since they're not cced in korean right? that's my biggest problem lately using lingq is a lot of the stuff i'm studying only has embedded subs ㅠㅠ
@NataliaGarza
@NataliaGarza 10 ай бұрын
I’m not sure what you mean. I’ve imported episodes from both of those shows into lingq with no issues?? I didn’t do anything special either. I just used the YT link Edit: Ahhhhh I see what you mean!! LingQ has a transcribe feature so it’ll make the captions automatically for you when you import the lesson! In my experience it’s always accurate, even when Suga mumbles~

@@NataliaGarza They don't have korean ccs (I think some of 슈취타 do but most don't) so when I import them they either import the english transcript or use the AI feature to create the transcript which i was worried might have mistakes. do you use the AI?

When you order Korean fried chicken and show it to you us you might as well call it like it is: "food porn". What is "food porn" in Korean? I can tell you the Japanese: 飯テロ Meshitero (Food terror)
@sm00re2
@sm00re2 Жыл бұрын
im also learning japanese so this made me curious so i googled the 飯テ口 and it looks same as a mukbang?? anyway, when i searched "food porn 한국어로" on naver it also said mukbang. or konglish it as "food porno" 먹방- short for 먹는 방송 (eating broadcast) or 푸드 포르노 for "food porno". food porn is described like a mukbang so 🤷‍♀️the korean def for a mukbang, and the english def for "food porn" is a visual representation of eating or cooking food for blogs or advertisement
@paulwalther5237
@paulwalther5237 Жыл бұрын
@@sm00re2 I wonder if 먹방 has the negative connotations that food porn and 飯テロ have. I mean it’s not that negative but it helps convey the viewer’s dilemma seeing this delicious food but not being able to partake. For me it’s particularly bad for foreign food. Sure you can get fried chicken anywhere but the recipe isn’t exactly the same. I miss Korean fried chicken 🤤
@sm00re2
@sm00re2 Жыл бұрын
@@paulwalther5237 i know people watch it for 대리만족 (alternate satisfaction) like if they are on a diet, they watch people eat the foods they wish they could eat in order to satisfy their craving. so it made me wonder if its not as negative to koreans as well so i asked my lang partner amd he said sometimes it can be negative, sometimes not. depends on context. people watch for 대리만족 or for fun or to not feel so lonely eating alone.
