I have a supercub and drive it everyday. I sold my car months back and made it my daily. Saving so much money. I live in California so gas is stupid expensive. I love your videos! You made me believe that a cub can make it anywhere after watching you go across the county. I appreciate your videos ❤

It’s so much more fun. Sucky part in California is that I can’t jump on the freeway. It’s super eye opening realizing that you can make it anywhere driving on the streets. You get to know so many different routes

@Albert Montes Agreed! It's almost always possible to get where you want to go and stay OFF the major highways and interstates... even if it takes you on a roundabout path. Most states have a minimum 150cc displacement limit for interstate highways, but rural and side highways aren't usually restricted. Occasionally, there are places where there just isn't a decent path between major cities other than the highways, so I'll jump on the interstate just long enough to find another side highway. I don't know if you watched my 2021 Scooter Cannonball Run series ( kzbin.info/aero/PLLXxDh3JumLnSK37lF4AcrF28frAIfLfA ) yet. We rode our Cubs 10K miles around the USA, through California, and tackled some of the major interstates out there heading toward LA and then east into Arizona. It was a bit nerve wracking with all of the homicidal cagers rolling 90+ MPH around us while we were stuck at 55-58 MPH pulling those trailers behind our little Cubs! The trip was fantastic, and I'm ready to do it again on my PCX150 this June! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

@@QuasiMotard I subscribed from Australia. All Supercubs, Groms and Monkey bikes have been banned from Australia as of last year due to ABS regulations. They all look nice. I ended up buying a matte grey 2022 CB125F brand new on Honda Australia promotion for US$2,345.00 and it's a real laugh. It's a 5 speed manual box and has a 3 gallon fuel tank. I get an average of 150mpg with moderate use and got 180mpg when I rode it for a few hours on a quiet interstate here at 40mph. Our fuel is totally different and Ethanol is not allowed in our Premium 98 gasolene so the bike has noticeably more power and runs far smoother as the fuel injection ECU adapts on the fly. I'd NEVER use standard gas. My worst gas mileage is 80mpg in the twisties with throttle pinned 85% of the time. I did change the standard tyres to decent rubber and put a quality DID 420 X ring chain on it. Stay safe!

Am the guy with the 2022 Cub and the poor MPG. My bike was in the shop over a week, while they checked everything over. The mechanic took it for a run with the 15T front sprocket I installed, and reverted it back to the factory 14T. The fuel efficiency went from high 80s to about 130MPG. I have no idea how that works, but apparently the issue is fixed. I get it back tomorrow.

100% think making the MSRP of the Navi around $1,999 in exchange for getting Fuel Injection, no one would complain. Maybe they can add a few more things like slightly bigger tank at 1 gallon or 1.1 gallon.

I agree with others: A topic on POV of a budget minded rider is a very welcomed addition to the channel. Something like reviews of cheap moto gear, or maybe even bikes/scooters/mopeds. For example - I just bought a $700 2007 Yamaha Vino 125. What are the cheapest riding gear options? I want to ride it through this winter and next summer, with as little expenses as possible. Being a Yamaha repair expenses should be low, but with my wife and kids relying on my paycheck (no she's not lazy, we just can't afford daycare for 2 kids) - I wish to keep gear expenses low too.

@QuasiMotard 2 жыл бұрын
Congrats on your new-to-you Vino 125... that's a steal of a deal! If you're just getting into riding and you're shopping for entry-level gear, then I'd suggest shopping the sales and clearance items at your local Cycle Gear store. You can snag great deals on year-end closeouts for helmets, jackets, and other riding essentials. I've had very good luck with the "budget" brands from there, namely their house brands, Bilt and Sedici. Here are a few of my favorites that I recommend to anyone/everyone looking for high-quality, low-cost riding gear: Helmet: Schuberth C3 Lite www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/schuberth-c3-lite-helmet (more expensive is generally better, you get what you pay for; modular flip-up is FANTASTIC!) Jacket: Fly Racing Flux Air Mesh amzn.to/3uNfz3t Gloves: Olympia 734 Digital Protector mesh gloves amzn.to/3HtjY0y Boots: TCX Explorer EVO GoreTex amzn.to/3O1RWuE Socks: Darn Tough Micro Crew Ultra-light amzn.to/3P7l2tZ Rain suit: Nelson-Rigg Storm Rider 2-piece rainsuit amzn.to/3KBSLJ8 I typically wear TCX Evo Explorer WP boots or other TCX motorcycle shoes for wet or dry rides. The TCX boots breathe well enough to keep my feet comfortable unless I'm just sitting still in the sun. I occasionally ride with 5.11 mid-height tactical boots, but they don't offer much ankle protection, which could be a bad situation in an accident. I usually never ride with "proper" riding pants that have armor or Kevlar reinforcement, but that's also a calculated risk. The whole ATGATT (all the gear all the time) discussion is a contentious topic. My primary concern with riding and commuting in Houston (besides navigating homicidal cagers) is heat management. The problem with the traditional ATGATT approach is that it's not feasible (or safe) in 100°F+ weather without risking heat exposure or heat stroke. Armored riding pants don't breathe well, and your legs are a horizontal surface that takes the greatest amount of heat soak from the sun. So, I skip the riding pants in favor of survivable risks and less chance of heat stroke. So, my approach to the riding gear equation is MOTGATT (most of the gear all the time). Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

With the Metropolitan I have noticed that fuel quality makes a big difference getting the last few miles per hour. Using Shell or Valero vs something else. But the last several months it has made no difference like fuel quality has dropped.

Here i's to wishful thinking. It would be nice if an oil change "restored" that little bit of power at the top end. In retrospect it would have been kind of cool to do a compression test for new, at break in, and at every oil change. Your Cannonball Run mileage was probably much more strenuous on the engine, than the computer miles. A oil cooler with a little powered pump, I think would help increase the engine's life, possibly the performance by having cooler oil, especially towing. Quasi you always share good stuff. I hope you and your family all have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Edward Cabello, Irvine California

Great to see another Cub commute. As I’ve mentioned before, I bought my ‘21 Cub and my Navi based on your videos and really like both bikes. I use the Navi for short rides and winter riding and the Cub for commuting. I’m looking to add another in the spring; something that is a bit larger. I looked at the Royal Enfield Classic 350 over the weekend and really leaning toward it at this point. Any recommendations are more than welcome! Thanks!

As far as gear for beginners, coming from a beginner, who just dropped his Navi in a gravel driveway...I wish I'd had the pants, lol. From the front of my left knee all the way around to the back of it is all scraped up. Its healing fine, but scrapes that big hurt quite a bit when healing because of how tight your skin feels. If I'd had pants, I'd probably have just had a good laugh and been back on the bike instead of waiting a few days. Its to the point, where if I had a time machine, I'd go back in time and buy some kid gear for when I was learning to ride a bicycle, cause I tore my hands and legs up back then too, lol.

Another good commute vid! I agree with your "update" thoughts concerning the Cub. At 11.5K I noticed my top speed has dropped from almost 75 to 65 lately with everything else remaining the same, e.g., MPG (130), power -- even ambient conditions. Running that fast is just play and is sketchy because of the light weight verses encountered winds anyway - so riding 55-60 seems just fine. But more torque for those Ozark hills would be welcome as long most other things stayed the same. OK, I want a suspension tweak. My Michelin Street Pilot 2 tires were a big improvement. The HH brake shoes were the big, big improvement for me -- I'll never go back to stock. Happy riding Quasi!

I was thinking the same thing about the pcx ... 200cc would be perfection ... why not put a motor like that in the c125 too? A 5th gear and 2gal tank and I'd be in line for one for sure. As far as fuel injection on the c125 goes, I thought the current 2024 model was fuel injected.

I'm amazed to see you taking the Super Cub on the highway. Yes, you're maxed open but you're keeping up with traffic. In your opinion what scooter is safer and better on the highway, your Super Cub as it is now or the Vespa GT300? The Vespa has more highway speed but the smaller tires would be more skittish on the highway, though they upgraded to larger 12" diameter wheels. I do like what you said about the Super Cub being 200cc's and fuel injected. It would be amazing.
@QuasiMotard
@QuasiMotard Жыл бұрын
The Vespa GT300 is certainly a better highway machine because of its weight and power/speed. The Super Cub's 17" wheels are great for stability and carving corners, but the tires are very narrow and can feel "flighty" at times over rough pavement or rain grooves. I dream (fantisize) about a Super Cub C200 Touring Edition that has: - 190-220cc air-cooled, fuel-injected, low-compression 2V engine (low-maintenance and reliable) - 5-speed semi-auto transmission (retain the centrifugal clutch and heel-toe shifter) - 3-gallon fuel tank - 3-4" longer wheelbase with a touch less steering rake (better high-speed stability) - proper full-length front forks - wider 17" wheels to use standard street bike tires - rear disk brake (with 2-channel ABS) - retain the same aesthetics, but add half-enclosed footboards back to the footpegs That would be my perfect small-bore back road tourer. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

That is an auxiliary fuel tank. It's one of only two "Neil tanks" in existence! I have one on my Cub, and a friend of mine, Adrian, has the other one. Our buddy, Neil, custom fabricated those tanks and mounting cradles for us before we left on our 10K-mile cross-country trip for the 2021 Scooter Cannonball Run. They hold about 1.3 gallons of fuel, but they aren't plumbed into the main fuel supply. We used them as emergency fuel supplies and as transfer tanks during our extended road trip. That is the Quad Lock system. My mounting solution is comprised of several different pieces... it's a bit spendy, but completely worth it for the convenience. The Supercub not for PA. The hills would make that a short lived engine. Dangerous running through hills since engine power not for up and down 800 to 1,200 ft.

These little 125's definitely stuggle up the hills, but they are built like tanks. We abused our little Cubs for 10K miles at wide-open throttle for a month straight while traveling across the USA on the Scooter Cannonball Run. We battled heavy headwinds, treacherous gravel roads, the Rocky Mountains, and everything in between... while pulling 85-lb trailers behind us! Our little Super Cubs solderied on without a whimper... ZERO MECHANICAL FAILURES! Granted, we were stuck at a meager 28-32 MPH in 2nd or 3rd gear for 20 minutes at a time while climbing the Rocky Mountains ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5SpaaShf9F_acU ). However, that just gave us more time revel in our discomfort and to soak in the scenery around us! 🤣👍 --QM

I know, right?! The GoPro Hero 11 was new, and I was still messing with the recording settings. I wanted to use the new "horizon auto-leveling" option, but GoPro's instructions and caveats are very ambiguous. They state that some of the leveling options are ONLY available in 4K 120FPS, so that's what I set. Unfortunately, I misunderstood their warnings... that was the least-preferred method of stabilization for that particular video mode. The better choice is 4K60. So, my resulting video files from those two road trips were HUGE and brought my editing workstation to its knees... absolutely crushed it to the point of being unusable for 30-60 seconds at a time just trying to scrub through footage. I tried creating lower-resolution proxies and editing with those, but Adobe Premiere still wouldn't attach the proxy files properly. I'll probaby try to rebuild that project to see if the proxies work better from ground zero. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
