Hey Jessie while I can definitely empathize with you feeling like you aren't where you would like to be the fact that in the next few clips you just casually walk onto set with the the brat is wild. You're rubbing shoulders with a listers, b Listers and legends on a daily basis. That's no small feat. I think you should give yourself more credit. When you mentioned feeling tired, that resonated so much with me. My sister and I always get on the phone and say how tired we are. I told my therapist that and she said how do you expect to gain more energy when you keep talking about how tired you are? She said I should start saying I am ready to be energized instead. The more I say it, the more energy I feel. I pray you start feeling more energized. I am sorry you are experiencing this trauma. When I moved to the US I specifically tried to get black professionals for everything because I heard so many horror stories about how black women are treated. But after some experiences, most of my BEST care has been with non blacks with the exception of one black 'Jamerican' doctor who was just so beautiful inside and out. I have quickly learned that "all skinfolk ain't kinfolk." In Florida I found a black dentist. She was nice but it was constant upselling which I understand is part of the model here. I never experienced this in Trinidad and I had a LOT of dental care there. The goal was always preservation as much as possible in Trinidad. My experience here is always some recommendation for some expensive ass procedure. I just moved to NJ from FL and have to look for new everything all over again. I am no longer picking professionals just because they look like me Already found a great Asian eye doctor. And a great Nigerian PCP.

I was cautioned when moving to the US that black women experience a lot of racism particularly in medicine so I led my search with this information. Fortunately, my experiences here have been mostly good regardless of race.

I am enjoying your vulnerability in this vlog. I once felt the way you are feeling before meeting my husband. I got married the month of my 40th birthday to my husband I dated for 2 years. Prior to our 2 year relationship I was celibate for 2 year because I was so disgusted with dating. Honestly, I focused on my relationship with God, my career and did a lot of self reflection. That may or may not work for you. I prayed "his will, his way" daily. You are so amazing from the way you present. I hate commenting on vlogs but something moved me when you were talking.

I had to adjust what romance meant when my husband came. He wasn’t overly romantic, but he was considerate. He brought me my favorite foods and things when he saw them. He wanted to see me happy. It wasn’t always flowers and gifts. When I got my rings, he wanted me all blinged out and I told him I wanted something modest (I fell in love with the set I have) and told him to put the rest towards our house. And that’s what we did. I can’t help but relate that to industry misogynoir as well as the extra dose of resistance you face as an ambitious dark skinned woman anywhere. There are always excuses that when compared to my peers , and sometimes superiors, have zero applicability. It’s a cop out. I have to consistently shoot higher targets, show more grit, and don’t let me make it look easy because even then, no good deed goes unpunished in a dark skinned woman’s world. Just as you, I had a complete paradigm shift, said fuck it, I’m not arguing like an employee, I’m negotiating like the business I am. I have a bottom line I’m trying to push and I’ve been focused on my purpose. The burn out was so real but the recalibration eased my mind. Yes, this is a sentiment we share. With all the drive and education and experience for some reason there is always a reason that you're not good enough. I am over it all. When I see a supervisor focusing on my faults but hailing Jennifer for doing the bare minimum, then I know what's up. That is not the culture I want to be around. I could not get my last supervisor to trust me. I had to send emails every morning, timesheet every morning, Mark everything I do on my calendar including breathing breaks, lol. They ended up letting me go anyways. I had people calling from my old job asking what happened because they felt I knew my ish and should not have been let go. Who knows. I'm happier now and need to be at a place where I don't have to prove my entire existence. Which is why I am almost done licensing in mental health. I need to be on my own

YES, I feel that way at times, however, i allow myself to feel it only for a moment, no more than 5 minutes, then I shift my mental state. A lot of times, if I retrace my thoughts, I realize the root of my pain started when got distracted by self comparison (social media and the like), thinking most people are somehow above my humanity and my growth. Shake it off. Shift your focus to prayer, meditation, and/or watering your spiritual garden. Focus also on gratitude. We have so much to be grateful for. You ARE blessed. Stop looking for romance and I promise you it will find its way to you, when you least expect it! Continue building upon yourself until then.
