Trust me...Hannah. Definitely, can be drama and BS mgmt. teams & wanna make friends w/folks, but coworkers are shady. Im older than you in my 40s. Im tryna do other side hustles, not deal w/corporate crap, anymore. If I work in corporate. It betta be govt. remote and short-term contract cause I am, too damn old 2 be working 40 more years for your company & I have thought about an MBA program for my own personal reasons, outside of corporate.

It came up in conversation at work one day, One of my co-workers asked, Why didn't I ask them... they would have gone with me because their husband was out of town. Ma'am, I didn't tell you because I am perfectly fine going by myself. I didn't want to go with you!!!!

I have no children. But I have watched single mothers struggle with childcare and working. I appreciate employers that provide flexibility. Not every employee has the same situation. Its not about being fair. It’s a case by case basis. Also, it should not be a distraction for other employees. As a Program Manager, I have DEFINITELY allowed clients with children flexibility. Especially when the daycare provider wants to charge them for additional hours if dropping off before their start time for work. Ridiculous. This is why some single mothers leave children alone at home while they work. I would rather help. Employers should be more than a check. Half of your life is spent at a job.

It’s very rare but a big blessing. It also depends on your manager and how kind hearted they are. My last manager was a Christian and tried to help everyone has much as she could. I never had to miss anything at my child school or when I need to leave early if my child was sick. I still keep in contact with her because good people/management is hard to find.

I feel Hanna’s point because I have navigated single adult and single parent, my daughter is an adult now. I had more flexibility as a single parent then than I did as an adult with no dependents within the same company. Life inconveniences still happened regardless, that may not be childcare issues for me now but the job wasn’t always accommodating or pushed back. I appreciate an employer that regardless of your home life if the accommodation can be made, it should be made.

As a single mother who’s worked corporate for over a decade, I just want to give some perspective. Single parents (there are some fathers holding it down on their own as well) are constantly playing tug of war with their time. Not sure how it is at the job you are leaving, but most single parents take longer to get promotions (and therefore raises) because of the flexibility they need to adequately take care of their children which includes a non-typical in office schedule. My coworkers who didn’t have kids would make comments like “it must be nice to have an excuse to leave early every day” but what they didn’t know is that I also signed on after I helped with homework, cooked, cleaned and put the baby to bed. I was exhausted but would still put in the time to make up for having to leave the office before my colleagues. This was every weekday and most weekends. When I was sick, most times I’d still go to work instead of taking off because I had to save my sick time in case my child got sick. Pto was always planned around my child’s school schedule where possible. Several of the coworkers who used to think I was being treated better ended up needing the same accommodations when they started to have kids (and they were married!). Not saying every single parent is putting in the extra effort but just wanted to give insight because this was something I constantly felt “shame” about while in corporate. I do see how those in diff situations might think its favoritism but there are convos that take place without all the colleagues being involved. Mine was a formal written agreement with performance standards that my colleagues knew nothing about because it was personal to my situation

I started a corporate admin job last September, and I can definitely say it is NOT the work environment for me. I only lasted 6 months before I had to bounce. It's not even that the work is hard or anything like that, it's always the people you work with. And the overly convoluted, fake corporate interactions... it's just not the kind of place I could feel confident in myself and the work I did. It felt like someone was always watching over my shoulder so they could tattle if I didn't meet a deadline or something (while they frequently dumped some of their LATE work on me too.). Not to mention the mandatory company meetings....the WORST!

People don’t understand being introverted isn’t us failing at being skilled in some way. Like it cannot be trained out of us. We do not feel like we thrive in social environments even when we do well. We just feel drained and hate the job. I went through this issue in corporate too. They thought I was great at talking etc bc they met me in the breakroom one on one informal settings so hired me to do meetings and lead and handle internal and external venders. By days end I wanted to walk out into traffic. 😅 It didn’t matter that I was doing the job well. I never felt stable like I knew what I was doing bc each call and meeting was an unknown. Ms. Hannah , I'm with you on the job tip, one of my co-workers threw me under the bus. Shady, and I'm only in the office one day out of the week. Yes, ma'am, that's how this lady was but she was cool. She came to my cubicle and ask what was I working on (I am a Physician Biller) and it's new to me but I'm not new to the medical field. However she came to me said she wanna help me or show me how to get my claims down and I'm like ok because she has helped me before, because her tips were helpful. But I guess I wasn't working how she wanted me to be. So, she said she would be back to show me more after I finish the first set. But, what she really did was went and called her GOOD friend who also works from home 4-days a week. And whatever she told her friend who is a Senior Leader and she was my first leader when I started working there, again whatever she told her friend, the senior leader went and called our supervisor and said whatever I don't know, and before my supervisor left for the day to go home to finish working home which she leaves the office at 10:30 am, The lady that threw me under the bus went to our super visors office and and told her whatever she told and for whatever reason. The next morning my Supervisor skyped me and said "hey call me and she told that the lady came to her and said I asked for her help which was a lie and I said she came to my desk and offered to help , I was doing fine on my own. The supervisor said that she was mad because that was the second time she has done that to me. So, she told me not to ask for help from ,which in the first place I never did. My supervisor said she is MESSY, but I didn't see that because when would when I was in the office 5 days a week and i would bring her breakfast (little McDonald biscut some mornings and she would buy me lunch or she would offer me some of her lunch sometimes. She invited me to her twice (nice home). So, for the life I don't know what made her do that, but what tripped me out was how quick she done it, like I'll be back to help you with more. Then she decided to come back my new Senior Leader was at my cube because we had a scheduled appointment and the lady as she was coming back she saw us and she said oh, never mind. But then she goes to her desk and skyped me and asked if I was mad at her (this was still the day, she did what she did to me). And I thought hat would I be mad about , not knowing what she had done to me , but she knew what she done. But when she saw working together I think she thought my leader had told me . because she saw my leader come out of the supervisor office ,but she knew nothing and if she did, she never said anything. So, I skyped her and said at what, because I was clueless to what she had did. Anyway to say all that, I changed my one worked day that I go into the office to Friday because she is not in the office on Friday's. And I my supervisor took the situation to the Boss and said that she is sick of that lady. My thing is I don't want no office drama in my life. And now I kinda don't want to ask for any help but I have to, so my supervisor said just continue to consult her and my senior leader and the other leader if my leader is not available. My supervisor was willing to change her schedule to accommodate me, but I told her no because know that she is also home with her little one when she leaves the job at 10:30. And I again I'm not mad at her, but I will not consult her which I did. So, I feel you on the office drama. So, unnecessary. Good luck on your journey, hope all goes well for you. Oh, I watch your videos all the time.

I used to be just like that Hannah (wanting to be friends with everyone at work), and sometimes I still struggle with it, but I have learned valuable lessons about not making friends with people at work. I had a major dilemma at one of my jobs 10+ years ago bc I got super close with a coworker, and she betrayed me. So ever since then, I swore I wouldn't make friends at work. But years later, I met one of my best friends at work. And I'm so grateful that I did. Her name was Casey. She passed away suddenly last year, and I am still heartbroken over it. But she blessed my life in ways I pray she knew before she left this world. Anyway, thanks for sharing your experience girl! I'm glad you are doing what's best for you!

It's like all the toxic managers have the same thought process. The reward of being a good worker is more work and people being lazy and dependent on you because they think you will do the work. I now understand why people are quite quitting

As a corporate employee (working from home full-time as does my entire unit) I get having to deal with different personalities. However, your manager didn't seem very "managerial." Her attitude was more high school than corporate. Did your company have an HR Dept, because a lot of the drama/lack of professionalism/inadequate training issues should have been addressed. And can we talk about ladies bathrooms has a whole??? OMG it's like going into combat and stepping over landmines! Wishing you well in your next endeavor even though you left us hanging!!! 😆😛🤭

I don’t know how you came up in my feed, but I’m glad you did! You’re such a smart young lady. I’m 41, and I can tell you firsthand; unless you do highly specialized work, education and experience equals out once you get to my age. It’s all about who you know and whether you’re able to perform the job. You’re also smart to stay away from toxicity in the workplace. That is the #1 way to ensure your future success. It took me way too long to learn that when I was younger.

CONGRATS ON YOUR NEXT CHAPTER!!! I’m not a single mother but I am a working mother. I just had my 2nd child 9 weeks ago and I’m very fortunate to have found a company that is accommodating and very flexible when it comes to my children. I couldn’t imagine what a single mother must go through being the sole provider for their child. Having a job that allows them the flexibility is a huge blessing.

So what do you wanna do since you’re aware now that corporate isn’t for you? And I feel you 150% on that. I was miserable being in a corporate setting. Also kept to myself and not feeling the whole rat race, climbing the corporate ladder thing. I have my bachelors so I’m good on that but the only reason I’d be in corporate is for the income possibilities. So, now I’m trying to figure out what I can do in the meantime so I can finance what I think would really be for me. I was scared of starting a business but it’s giving I need to get on my zoom and start the business 😅

I work in a hospital in Chicago and I was a single mom my child is now grown but there is a person whom I work with that is a single mom and they give her special treatment she leaves early comes in late when she wants too and it’s not fair to those of us who work hard as well. I work 12 hour shifts and sometimes we don’t get a lunch because when she leaves early or calls off we have no one to cover us for lunch. So yes it is very annoying. As a single parent you do what you have to do and make it work there should be no special treatment. If I seem harsh I am sorry and I’m not trying to be but it’s the way it is. Congrats to you on your next journey in your life

I’m fortunate that both of my big girl jobs have been with companies that have all the things that folks want in a workplace (remote work, bombbbb benefits + pay, work life balance, lifestyle stipends, unlimited PTO, the list goes on). I have my own business as a social media manager + event content creator, and as long as I can balance both, I’m gonna do it (my job actually knows about my business and a few coworkers have become clients) Reading y’all’s comments and listening to similar stories from friends about what you’re going through in your respective workplaces has me even more grateful for where I’m at 😮‍💨 Sending you good vibes and well wishes for your next chapter Hannah!

I quit my job almost 4 weeks ago, best thing I’ve done for myself in a while! I start a new position tomorrow. One of my major issues was that I did advocate for myself and my supervisor wanted to classify me as being defensive so she/they didn’t have to fix the true issues at hand. I’ll just say I was at my previous position for 14 months and we’d gone through over 12 staff, one including a supervisor. Lol it’s speaks for itself.

So I’m 26 I’m moving to a new state for a new job . It’s my current dream job at a great pay but I’m torn because I’m leaving a job that i have my own office , no work drama, my boss is the same age as me , we work hard but are like a true family the downside is the pay sucks. I’m so scared that I’m going to go to this new place and have to go back to the unnecessary drama and weird people/vibes. I’m quite and everyone in my office now is loud and love to sit together and work but they accept that sometimes i want to go in my office close my door and work alone. Plus my new job i won’t have a personal office. I’m praying for the best but it’s SO scary.😩 i loved everything about this vlog because I’ve been there and until my current job i was always talked about or messed with because I’m quiet.
