VLOG: Launch of Klein Jan & Tswalu Safari

I’m so excited to share this vlog with you all because this experience was definitely one of those once-in-a-lifetime moments that I just had to share with all of you!
Jan Hendrick van der Westhuizen is one of the most remarkable chefs of our generation who is championing South African food internationally,
The opening of his latest restaurant in the Kalahari has been long awaited and the excitement around what it would look and taste like has been widely and excitedly anticipated - we all knew it would be incredible!
I was privileged enough to be invited as one of Jan’s guests for the intimate launch and it was nothing short of amazing! The views, the food, the ambiance, everything was just jaw-dropping! Jan is a creative food genius, and this latest project is yet more proof of his immense talent.
If ever you get the opportunity to go and experience restaurant Klein Jan in the Kalahari, then grab it with both hands... until then, I hope you enjoy living the experience vicariously through me in this vlog.

My eyes literally lit up as I walked through that root cellar, so beautiful... the entire experience was so inspiring - I’m definitely making my own Kalahari preserves soon! 😃 And yes, the “sop en brood” room was heavenly - I ate my body weight in mosbolletjies and soup 😄

coming back for my third watch of this stunning video and apart from all the very amazing delights including that shower, I still cant stop thinking of the 10 plates on the table 16:59, was it comfortable to eat like that?

Glad you enjoyed the video Tracey 😃 The 10 plates were delicious, I love that you get to taste everything on the menu, rather than having to choose and miss out on anything. I also love the idea of family-style eating where you help yourself to things on the table and form your own “plate” of food, so this was definitely up my alley - I really enjoyed it 😊

Jan is a BOEREVERNEUKER ! In his DSTV series he said he would make access affordable for the ordinary person. Deceit! Approximately R20k for 2 persons from Gauteng (min)
