This was the most well put together review of this camera that I've seen any channel do. This was an actual review with side by side comparisons, instead of just "oh this camera is so good I'm not comparing it to anything, but it's good go buy one" lol. Very well spoken also :)

Thanks for the great video and posting all the links for the equipments. This was SUPER helpful. I want to ask about two things here: #1- G7 or G85 ? As a start, I want to make videos in a setup like yours, behind a desk or when I set in a cafe, not moving a lot, or walking down the street. However, I don't want to get a camerabody that limits me in the future and I regret it in case I want to expand to more experiments with videos. #2 - Which lens should I buy with either cameras to achieve nice shallow depth of field? I will be shooting at my desk, with bookshlfs or photo frames behind, or outside again setting stationary. #3 Some people say: the body isn't that important but the lens is what makes a difference. Do you agree? Thanks a lot for your valuable videos and advise. Ali
@Mark10ProVideo
@Mark10ProVideo 7 жыл бұрын
Hello, Ali! 1 Never owned a G85, but from comparing the specs, I would say that pretty much the sensor shift IS is what sets it apart. Sensor, AF, video modes, working ISO...no differences as far as I can tell....the sensor shift IS is nice, but I don't thinks it is worth almost double the money because of it. Also all these stabilization techniques are meant to help stills photographers get an edge, not improve smoothness for videographers. If one really wants smooth video then we're talking gimbal at least 300USD and up, that's just a sad fact. So basically my recommendation would be to get the G7 body, but get the newer and better kit lens of the G85 separately. The 12 60, by the zoom range alone is better than the 14 42. 24-120mm ff eq has you covered with a zoom range that pretty much 90% of the video shot on planet earth is shot with. 2 Now depth of field... with kit lenses you won*t get a lot of bokeh....because they usually start at an f3.5 and for nice bokeh you either need 2.8 and more often than not a lower f stop than that. Like 1.8 gives you good bokeh....or you need high millimeters. The most bokeh you will probably get from the 12 60 @ 60mm with the f5.6. But it won't be that much, but definitely you will get a noticable background blur, if the background is not directly behind you. Then you don't stand a chance with the either kitlens I am afraid. The 30mm 2.8 prime could be a consideration for you with the desk setup. The 12 35 2.8 from Panasonic is a pretty good lens, but it's a grand. I would test the 12 60 kit lens and see if that works for you, before thinking about the other lenses. 3 For stills, when you have all the time in the world at your service. But for video the AF definitely makes a whole lot of difference, and that's body. Depends on what one wants to do. As a general statement, I don't agree. Greetings!

Hey, Usman Haroon! At that very price point the best deal with all the things you want is imho a Canon EOS M3. It has an ok AF system, not a great one though, small form factor and external mic. A REALLY GREAT vlogging camera is the EOS M6, when you apply my external audio setup to it, video coming tomorrow or Tuesday, BUT it's round about a grand..... Hope that helps you out. Greetings!

Hey TubeNoob, I've got a question for you that I'm struggling with. I am soon going to start a KZbin channel but I have to choose between 3 cameras: The Canon EOS M3, Sony Alpha a5100 and the Panasonic G7. The type of videos I will be making are tutorials/product reviews and a vlog here and there. Which one do you recommend? Please help me out! :(
@Mark10ProVideo
@Mark10ProVideo 7 жыл бұрын
Hey, Aleks Loupatty! If you are predominantly doing product reviews, you do need really good image quality for the product shots especially. Seems to me you will be doing a lot of studio type shooting and a lot of pre-meditaded shots and setting lights are coming your way in the future. That's why I would suggest to go with the G7. It is the most feature rich and durable camera of the three. The other two are better suited for people who like to vlog most of the time. The G7 AF is the least good of the three cameras, but if you*re studio shooting most of the time, then manual focus will be your best friend anyway. Best image quality, most features for videography and highest resolution - that's all G7. And if you*re getting the 12 60 kit lens of the G85 for the G7, you have perfect zoom range for like 90% of all videography. Hope that helped you out. Greetings!

For Photography and a little bit of videography Should I Buy Panasonic G7 or Sony a6000 ? which one has better picture quality and color saturation ?
@Mark10ProVideo
@Mark10ProVideo 7 жыл бұрын
Hey Varun Shukla! I would go with the Sony A6000. Panasonic has 4k video, which the sony does not have, but is very much a video centric camera. You can shoot stills with it, but if you are predominantly interested in stills, then the Sony will give you better lowlight, given you use the same lens, or one that compares in terms of f stop, you will get more megapixels and more dynamic range with the A6000. The APS C size sensor of the sony simply beats the M4/3 sensor of the G7. When you do shoot video: The G7 has an audio input, so you can get better audio with it, because the sony does not have that feature. The sony also does not have 4k. BUT it has the FAR superior autofocus. G7 can be frustrating in that department, depending on the body firmware and how new the lens is. The G7 does not overheat, the A6000 does, but it is workable if you only do bits of video it should not be much of a problem. Just know that doing long takes with the A6000 (15min plus) almost certainly means that the camera will overheat. You can still turn it back on immediately and it will give you some more minutes of video, but the camera will shut down once it has reached critical temperatures to protect the electronics. Screens: G7 has the tilt svivel, which is the best option in my opinion, if you are in front of the camera as well as behind it. Screen quality is much better and it is a full touch screen. A6000 only has a lip screen without a selfy functionality and it is kinda hard to see whats what in bright sunlight, but you get the EVF, so that works out fine actually. G7: 4k, average AF, tilt svivel screen, no overheating, lots of video centric features, smaller sensor. A6000: 1080p, STELLAR AF, flip screen no selfy, overheating, good video features, better sensor(more dynamic range, better in lowlight, higher megapixels) G7: better for video if you*re doing long takes and want best audio. A6000: Better for predominantly shooting stills and throwing in a video here and there. I think the A6000 suits your need better than the G7 does. Hope that helped you out a little. Greetings! color saturation is done in post production. From the get go in my opinion the Sony image does a better job with saturation. But you will fiddle with that in post or lightroom I am pretty sure if you do lots of photos.

@TubeNoob need your help. I'm comparing on which camera to get for vlogging + travel. Should I get the Nikon D5600 or Canon SL2? I notice that Nikon autofocus is not so good compare to the Canon dual autofocus. What are your thoughts? Much appreciated :)
@Mark10ProVideo
@Mark10ProVideo 6 жыл бұрын
Hey, WooGDragon! SL2 hands down the better pick for vlogging in my opinion. IF stills are very important to you, you could consider, dealing with the inferior af system of the d5600 for video, because jpeg buffer is much larger with the d5600(100) compared to 25 for the SL2 and you are going to have sharper images because there is no anti aliasing filter. But as far as vlogging goes the SL2 is the better camera because of the dual pixel autofocus in live view. For stills, it is not as good. So....much more photos than video: D5600. Much more video than photos: Sl2. About 50/50....might want to look into something like a canon d800 for example..... Hope that helps you out a little. Greetings!

Hi, thanks for this video, I'm torn between the compactness and great autofocus of the sony rx100 m2 (has hot shoe for mic) vs spending 200 bucks more to get the canon sl2 which (with 70d double pixel auto focus) admittedly larger in size. What do you advise for product review video with occasional outdoor filming including kids on a skateboard?
@Mark10ProVideo
@Mark10ProVideo 7 жыл бұрын
Hey, xory44! SL2, plain and simple. Haven't had the chance to test one yet, but from the specs alone, it looks to be a very good choice for both vlogging and studio shooting. offers reliable decently fast video AF, external mic input, tilt svivel screen, interchangeable lens system, no overheating and a very compact form factor, given that it is still a dslr not a mirrorless body. rx100m2 might have the multi interface hotshoe that fits the sony zoom and stereo mics with the corresponding mount, but the AF , especially with product reviews can kill your mood quickly. In this case the 200 additional bucks spent are spent well in my opinion. You can do a lot more with the sl2 and I believe you will be a lot happier for a lot longer than with the rx100 mark 2. Especially for the reviews, you do want reliable smooth video AF. You don't get that from the rx100 series, because none of them have a phase detection system, whereas the sl2 has phase detection for the whole sensor, with the dual pixel system. Also kids on a skateboard are taxing sometimes, with a purely contrast detect system I don't think you stand a chance tracking them if you are stationary for example. The SL2 will perform way better. Hope that helps you out. Greetings!

@Mark10ProVideo 7 жыл бұрын
Hey MUTA! Well a music video can have many different styles and looks and can be shot in a lot of different ways....I would have to have abetter idea of what it is exactly that you want do accomplish videography wise. If you want to do a professional look, with pre meditated designed shots, then I would definitely go with the G7, video quality is simply higher and 4k is just a standard these days for video. Also it has much more features for video then the Canon 70D. It's just that the AF isn't as good as that one of the 70D. If you predominantly want to do handheld shots and use autofocus, probably the use of the 70D will make production easier. Fot the G7 I think the kit lens of the G85 is the best. The Panasonic 12 60mm f3.5-5.6. Decently wide on the wide end and good tele reach at a reasonable price point. For the 70D I would go with the 18 135mm STM for the same reasons as above. But to really give you a fitting recommendation I would have to have an idea of what exactly it is that you want to do. Still hope that helps you out a little. Greetings!

Thanks very much am deeply humbled.. i need it for business i recently bought a phantom 3 SE now i need a camera... so i thought of asking you! so the 85mm lens does it make blur background right?
@Mark10ProVideo
@Mark10ProVideo 7 жыл бұрын
Generally speaking, the lower the f.stop the better. If you*re talking about the 85mm f1.8 from canon, yes, that will give you a VERY blurred background @ f1.8, but the viewing angle is also very narrow. That*s actually a go to portrait lens for full frame cameras. It is really very narrow, you cannot turn the camera around and film yourself with such a lens, just to let you know. And it isn#t even wide enough for street photography. Also given that both the canon and the panasonic are crop factor cameras, actually you*re looking at a 135mm full frame equivalent with the canon(1.6 crop) and a 170mm ff eq with the panasonic(2.0 crop). If you want to shoot portraits on the panasonic the 42.5 f 1.7 is a great little lens, with the crop factor you then end up with exactly the 85mm ff eq. For the Canon a corresponding lens would be the 50mm f1.8 STM, which is a great lens, sharp and very good price point, and also given the 1.6 crop factor, you get round about an 85mm ff eq. What kind of shots do you want to do? What are your subjects?

Great video! I've got the Lumix DMC-GF6 which I've had for 3 years. I really like the camera and have shot some vlogs on it plus other types of video (timelapses, travel videos). I'm interested in a camera to do the same with but with better quality and the G7 seems like a great option, especially after watching your video. How is the G7 in terms of slow motion visuals? Thanks
@Mark10ProVideo
@Mark10ProVideo 7 жыл бұрын
Ey, WhatsSimonSaying! Thanks, for the nice comment! Much appreciated:) Well 1080p60 is all you*Re getting with the G7. So It's a 50% slomo when played back in a 30fps timeline. Looks allright, but 120fps would be better:) Really depends on how much slowmotion one wants. Like human movements look really nice I think, but I once tried to capture raindrops hitting a small puddle and that rally didn't come out as impressive as I had hoped. Image quality of course is pretty damn good at the price point of you put some thought into setting the camera up so it delivers well in a certain szenario. Hope that helps you out a little:) More questions, just ask! Greetings:)

I do agree that there is a learning curve with the G7. I have had mine for about 2 weeks and have had my ups and downs with it but over all I could not be happier. I don't VLOG so I can't comment on that but it works exceptionally well when I do tutorials recording my iPad screen. I am headed to the beach in June and hope to make use of the time-lapse function. @Mark10ProVideo
@Mark10ProVideo 6 жыл бұрын
What camera are you using right now? The choice really depends on what kind of vlogging you do? Is it mainly just you sitting in front of the camera and talking into it? Because then the AF isn't that important. You could easily use manual focus in such a scenario. How much money do you want to spend? Does it have to have s selfie screen? A camera that has come down in price and now offers very good value for the money is the Canon M50 for example. The 22mm stm m f2 lens would give you a sharp image without breaking the bank as well. And if you wanted a super wide angle zoom for regular The camera has a 4k video mode, but with a crop, meaning the viewing angle is less than in 1080p full hd video mode and the AF is also slower. But for a talking head scenario it would work well regardless. A sony a6500 is a camera I use myself. It is more expensive but also delivers great video. With the sigma 16mm f.4 you can even get enough bokeh to get a full frame camera feel out of it. A killer combo, if you are willing to spend a lot would be a sony A7III the 16 35 f2.8 GMaster and say a rode videomic pro, or in your case a nice lavalier microphone. That is of course very expensive. If you can tell me as exactly as possible what you would like to film I can give you better recommendations. Greetings!

I'm currently using a Panasonic HC-V100 camcorder. My new camera/camcorder must have a viewfinder and be under £600. I want to shoot simple vlogs (mostly sitting down and talking, some skits, and sometimes being outdoors too) while capturing the audio and visuals crisp and clearly. Example of the vlog quality I'd like: 1. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hITLgX-rr9CZl8U 2.kzbin.info/www/bejne/qniVeH2QmKd-hac Something like these or inbetween. Thanks in advance :)

Also, how would you rate the Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II for what I need?
@Mark10ProVideo
@Mark10ProVideo 6 жыл бұрын
@@IndigoChina If that's what you're after then the panasonic g7 is a great fit. The look you like you get from fast lenses. Because they will give you the background blur when you're in front of the camera. I would definitely checkout the sigma 16mm f1.4(video 1 and 2) and the 30mm f1.4(video 1) for the micro four thirds mount. AND make your peace with using manual focus. Which for the kinds of videos you want to do would be my recommendation anyway. That camera and these lenses will be a very good fit for what you want to do. Another option would be the 20mm f1.7 from panasonic. OR of background blur is not as important to you, then the 12 32mm pancake lens is also a very good fit and better for video than the 14 42 standard kit lens. For audio a decent lavalier for the talking head videos is probably the best choice for the cleanest audio. As a shotgun mic on top of the camera, the micW IGoMini Shotgun mic is pretty good, or the more budget friendly option, the Takstar SGC 598. A rode videomic pro of course works very well but is more expensive. Hope that helps you out a little. More questions? Just ask.... Greetings!
@Mark10ProVideo
@Mark10ProVideo 6 жыл бұрын
@@IndigoChinaDon't think that is a good fit. Does not have a mic input, so for clean audio you need an external recorder and you need to sync the audio in post production. For background blur a bigger sensor is better. 1 inch isn't that big. No 4k. I think you're better off with the G7.

Between these two, I would go G7, yes. The M4/3 system is compact, light weight, has a good lens selection, the DFD autofocus is pretty snappy and reliable for stills. Lowlight is good, sensor is not too big being a 4/3 sensor, but high ISO handling is decent. Viewfinder is good, touch screen is very good. Any other cameras you*re looking at for stills?

Thank you for this very informative product review! Can you please compare preview speed between UHS-II card and UHS-I on G7? I have no issue with the quality of photos taken using this camera. I think they are great. The issue is on read speed of UHS-II. When using UHS-II Class 10 1000x 150MB/s, it takes at least 3 seconds before the preview photo appears after turning on the camera. Once the preview is loaded, you can scroll through photos quickly. It is annoying to wait for preview to appear. I tried it on 2 different UHS-II card and same result. I tested the UHS-II cards on PC and they are able to reach the 150MB/s speed read. Then I tried using a regular SDXC UHS-I Class 10 95MB/s. The preview appears immediately regardless it was just turned on the first time or not. Note that UHS-I is using the first row/ set of pins on standard SD cards. The UHS-II is using set of pins on 2nd row of the SD Card.. I covered the 2nd row (where the UHS-II pin are located) of the Lexar UHS-II Class 10 1000x 150MB/s SD Card to force the camera to use the UHS-I pins and the preview speed is fast. I suspect that the camera is not optimized on UHS-II speed. I contacted Panasonic's customer support and they responded to me that "While the UHS-II cards (those with the extra pins) will work, currently none of our cameras were designed to utilize their higher speed capability." - UHS-II specification is one of my consideration in buying this camera and they're advertising is false.

Hey, Mark Milan Macanas! This video was shot after the upgrade. I still think it is a suitable vlogging camera, but if all one wanted to do with it is vlogging, then much of what it can do will remain unused. I still think it is better suited for someone looking for an overall video centric camera, or a camera one can also vlog with, apart from general videography work, not just for a vlogging camera.... Hi have a canon 550d. How will the G7 perform in low light say both were set to same iso with same fstop lens. Which will give a better or brighter image under the same conditions ? My usage is only for video. Example say the canon 550d with 18.55 kit lens and the G7 with 14-42mm lens. Both set to their widest focal and shot with 100 iso which will have better light sensitivity.

No problem!!! BTW! I'm in a bit of a squeeze... So, I have a seller with a G7 with the lumix kit lens 14-42mm, also a lumix 25mm lens, an ND filter, and 2 extra 3rd party batteries for $600, OR another seller with a GH4, with a 14-42mm lens, and extra batteries for $700...... Which would be the more ideal buy for an amateur videographer and photographer? What would you do personally???
@Mark10ProVideo
@Mark10ProVideo 7 жыл бұрын
Phew...tough...tough tough tough....ok... Sensor: Virtually the same, specs-wise, almost identical color reproduction and dynamic range, but G7 a little better in lowlight, because of different processing and the noise looking more like film grain, than the l noise on the GH4. Stills: Results are very similar in my opinion. Video: Cinema 4k and full hd 96 fps on the GH4 side. Only 3840x2160 and no slow mo on the G7. Again in good light image almost indistinguishable from one another. AF: Contrast with DFD. Not awesome for video, but workable. GH4: Weathersealing, G7 none. GH4 is heavy in comparison. GH5 is light in comp. Battery Life: GH4 is legendary in that regard. Once got over 4 hours of video out of it.Lots of continuous shooting though. G7 is good 100 mins approximately im my experience. Recording limits on the G7. GH4 also has them, but on itself starts recording again, so you don't lose any footage. Headphone jack on GH4, G7 ...nope.... Both are great for budget filmmakers. I personally would go with the G7, because lowlight is better, the whole setup is lighter, I don't shoot in heavy rain and whatnot, carrying like another 2 to 3 third party batteries is no big deal to me, and I RARELY exceed continuous recording times of 20 minutes. Headphone Jack would be nice though, if you use it as an a camera. Then again you got audio levels on screen and of course you can test shoot the camera under different situations with different audio gear. Also there is of course the option of simply getting a mic that has the headphone jack, so you don't actually need one on the body. Also with the relatively small micro 4 3 sensor and with the kit lens starting at an f3.5 I would really dig the 25mm f1.7, because that will get me a lot of background blur for those real nice bokeh shots. So I say: G7 with kit and 25mm plus batteries. Hope that helped you out. Greetings! p.s. the g7 has LOTS of features, REALLY LOTS OF THEM. But the GH4 has an insane amount of them, which in my opinion is overwhelming.

TubeNoob wow thanks a lot! How about autofocus between the two? Is the GH4 any better than the G7? Is there any significant difference?
@Mark10ProVideo
@Mark10ProVideo 7 жыл бұрын
It is the same technology. I shot a project on the GH4, and I have been shooting with the G7 on my own time for a couple of months, and longer ago with the firmware version one. It also depends on the lens. The older version kit lenses don*t have the stepping motors like the newer version pancake lenses or for example the 12 32 panasonic pancake lens I often use. So that is a factor as well. In my experiences the G7 has the upper hand when it comes to video AF. I didn't shoot stills with the GH4, but for stills contrast detection with dfd on the panasonics works pretty damn good I think, so there shouldn't be much of a difference, if any, when it comes to stills. Can't say for sure though.

I got a G85 last week and while the autofocus is not as great as the Canon dual-pixel system (for video), the G85 does a pretty decent job with AF. But in photography mode, the G85's AF almost feels faster. By the way, what were the ladies saying at the end? :)

So what would you recommend for more dedicated vlogging in the same price/ features range?
@Mark10ProVideo
@Mark10ProVideo 7 жыл бұрын
Hey, Travis Stevens! I don't think there is really anything in the same price features range that also has a tilt svivel screen. Canon M3: Less features, only flip up screen. No 4k. Sony A6000: Better AF, but tilt screen only, pretty ok feature set, not as rich as G7 though. No real touch screen. It has touch to focus I believe, but that is it. No mic jack. No 4k. The new canon SL2 (200d) seems to be a pretty good vlogging camera, but it also lacks a lot of features compared to the G7. And it's considerably more expensive at around 700 bucks. After those three the going gets tough....the price point definitely goes up.... Are you thinking of any one in particular? Greetings!
@travis.stevens
@travis.stevens 7 жыл бұрын
Cheers for the reply! The A6000 seems like it would be near perfect if the screen could flip. Like everyone, I'm looking for a mirror-less with a flip screen (direction doesn't matter as it will only be used for framing), good low-light performance, great auto-focus, a hot shoe/ mic input, and image stabilization. 4k is not a must. Finding all of this under $1000 seems impossible and the G7 seems the closest to doing all of this. Thanks again!

And since we're talking below a grand....the M6 is also in the mix. That is a pretty great one as well. And there's a lot of option for applying external mics without compromising the use of the flip up screen. That in my opinion is probably the best mirrorless vlogging camera in 2017 as of now....

TubeNoob i would be using it for the additional vlog, sports video with friends and sit down talks. I'm really looking at the canon rebel t6i or the Sony ax33. Would you have any recommendations there? It would help a lot.
@Mark10ProVideo
@Mark10ProVideo 7 жыл бұрын
For vlogging, because of the phase detect AF system and although form-factor-wise the camcorder is smaller, I would suggest the t6i with like a 10-18 stm canon lens. Which is also much more convenient for sit down talks, when there are a couple of people present and you want to get them all in frame. With 30mm at the wide end to get everybody in frame, you would have to set the camcorder up pretty far away compared to the t6i with a wide angle lens on it. Also the group of people, aesthetically, will seem further away from the viewer. That aesthetic just has less immersive quality than a closer by wide angle. Then again there are wide angle converters for the sony camcorder which are affordable(search "wide angle conversion lens sony ax33" on amazon for example), but I can't tell you about their quality, since I have never used them. For filming a sports event, of course the 10x zoom from 30 to 300 of the Sony is great. To pull that off you would have to get a separate lens for the t6i or compromise with something like the 18-135 stm for example. If you can live with slower and not quite as reliable contrast detect AF performance and the additional cost of a wide angle conversion lens, for all the kinds of videos you want to do, probably the Sony is a good choice. As for audio, the Sony has a hot shoe mount, so you can put a nice directional mic on it if you want. If you do not need the big zoom range though, then I would suggest the t6i with a 10-18mm stm for example. Hope that helps you out! Greetings!

You're like a more attractive and techy version of gru. Oh no I think I have a crush.. so if you don't recommend the Panasonic lumix G7 for a vlog cam, what would you recommend in that price range?
@Mark10ProVideo
@Mark10ProVideo 7 жыл бұрын
Haha...gru....didn't think of that one yet:) Mh....500 tops is really hard.....a Canon EOS M3 isn't bad for starters, but the AF isn't stellar. 15 45 kit lens for video, not 18 55 kit lens, the letter is better for stills. 11 22 stm m is a very good lens for vlogging but expensive. The kit lens is just wide enough on the wide end though for vlogging I think. A Sony A6000 isn't bad as well, but it overheats. So long takes are a no go, except in siberia... and it has no selfie screen. Above that pricewise a Canon SL2 with the 10 18 stm from canon is probably the best starter vlog camera this year. Then again, kit lens, in my opinion, is too narrow on the wide end, so a canon 10 18 stm lens would be a far better choice for vlogging, which would bring the pricetag to about 750..... The SL2 is the only camera that has no flaws, except no 4k, if that is important to you. Tilt svivel touch screen, dual pixel autofocus, small form factor, light weight, external audio input, 29m59s rec limit...it's pretty much the whole nine yards as far as beginners vlog camera goes. If it has to be a camera I would look into the EOS M3 or the SL2 aka 200D, with the lens choices I mentioned. How important is audio quality for you? Ever thought about using your smartphone and upgrading that with some tech?

@Mark10ProVideo
@Mark10ProVideo 7 жыл бұрын
Hey, Kimberly Noble Winslow! Thanks for taking the time to write such a nice comment! Much appreciated:) Real point and shoot with external mic......the only one I can think of right now is the rx100MarkIII, that one is the only one out of that series, that has a multi interface hotshoe, which you can attach the Sony ECMGZ1M gun zoom mic to, but with 28mm on the wide end it isn't all that wide, so maybe that is a deal breaker for you. Just on a side note, have you though about using a phone to vlog? You can do pretty cool stuff these days with something like a galaxy s7 edge for example: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6KwqqaelNBqoqM Of course a G7 will defintely enable you to step up your game much more than any of the above mentioned options. For vlogging I can also recommend, besides face tracking AF of course, 1 area AF with the AF zone fitted to the size of your head, sometimes tracking AF also works better than face recognition, because the camera has trouble once you look away from it and it cannot recognize a face shape. Shooting in 1080p 60fps also helps because the sensor info is read out twice as often as when shooting 30fps. A newer version kit lens, the 14 42 pancake, or the g85 kit lens the 12 60mm or the 12 32mm panasonic pancake I like to use also help, because these all have stepping motors which help quite a bit with video AF performance. Again thanks for the nice comment! Hope you have a lot of fun with the camera! Greetings!

@Mark10ProVideo
@Mark10ProVideo 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, that phone just never seizes to amaze me...looking at an iPhone 7 shortly, but still I think it won't beat the s7....I was going to tell in the upcoming vlog about the new place, but the S7 is actually my A cam for the new place, desite all the other cameras I own, that is really the one that works best for me in that situation, it is so light weight, so small and yet delivers such great quality.....the s8 plus must be really awesome, wish I had one:)))) I used good lighting of course, because the smartphone sensor is relatively small and has a strong tendency towards digital noise in lowlight. So I totally like the idea and you will probably like to studio shoot that phone very much. @Mark10ProVideo

Yes it will work if you're using the sennheiser pcv05 adapter. That will allow you to connect the 3 pole video micro to the 4 pole input of the s8 and simultaneously hook up your smartphone headphones to check audio. I just tested it with the s7, so it should work on the s8 no problem. I would do some 30s test videos and pick the highest res that your machine can still edit in a way that suits you and still export to 1080p footage. this way you either benefit from super crisp 1080p footage or enjoy the freedom to crop into the video if need be. Either way it's cool:) Greetings!

Hey, Evolve816! A5100: Best AF, but overheats and has no audio input. Easy to use. Flip up screen. 10 18 mm wide angle lens is expensive. 1080p60. Camera around 500 USD with 16 50mm kit lens. G7: 4k and 1080p60, no overheating, most video centric camera with best features, best possible quality of the three. But takes a while until you know how to handle the camera. Mediocre AF performance, but workable for vlogging, given the latest firmware and a new lens with stepping motor. Panasonic 7 14 wide angle lens expensive. Camera with 12 32 pancake around 750 USD. M6: Best vlogging camera of the three. Flip screen, no overheating, dual pixel AF, 11 22 stm m lens rather affordable compared to the other super wide angle lenses. External audio input. Audio hacks so you can still use the flip up screen: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aqS2p4OKepp8g6M kzbin.info/www/bejne/baTLiWivrJKihrM Camera with 11 22 stm m about 1200 USD. In my opinion, if you have the budget, or you can sell an old camera, the M6 is the best choice for vlogging. If you*re new to vlogging the overheating will probably kill the fun in using the A5100 for you. You would have to be able to see the vlog in your head almost before hitting record, so you can be very decisive and selective with your shots. That way the shooting style allows for the shortcomings of the camera and they are no longer a problem. The same goes for the AF of the G7. The AF will probably take the fun out of using the camera, if you are not willing to put in time to study it'S behavior, strengths and weaknesses. The M6, out of those three is the one you can simply run in full auto and expect it to deliver the best results it can. I think that is what you need as a beginner. Hope that helps you out. Greetings!

Your response has helped me greatly as well. I'm considering the M50, M6 and Panasonic G7. The panasonic is very tempting as I can get the kit lens, a prime lens, body and rode mic for the same price as the M50 Body only. I own a Nikon D3100 and have had it for over 5 years. It's time to get a mirrorless as I'm a lifestyle blogger who wants to be able to take high quality fashion, food and travel shots with a lightweight camera. I also want to record more youtube videos so need a camera with a mic input. Knowing what I do and what I plan to use the camera for, which of the 3 will you recommend? what is the best way to import G7 1080p video into a pc?
@Mark10ProVideo
@Mark10ProVideo 7 жыл бұрын
Hey, Evan Cauduro! To me speed is key here, so to me the best way is the fastest way. I think is taking the sd card out of the camera and putting it directly into the sd card slot of the pc is the fastest way. SD card reader on a USB 3 of course is pretty fast as well. Second to that I think is using an sd card reader on a like usb 2.0 slower hub, or hooking up the camera itself to the pc via cable. I always take the card out and plug it into my laptop. Also of course you can use the camera with a second sd card while transfering the footage, which would not be possible of course if you hooked up the camera. Hope that helps you out a little. Greetings!

Hey:) I would go with the 70D then. Bigger sensor, larger often more budget friendly lens selection, better dynamic range. Higher working iso and faster AF for stills is with the G7 though. So if lowlight and speed are more important than dynamic range, bokeh, and budget friendly lens selection, the G7 might be the one for you. Hope that helps you out a little. Greetings!

Hey, Francesco Garabello! No, neither of those cameras have a headphone input. There's mics like the saramonic sr m3, that come with a headphone output, but you can only monitor what the mic picks up, not what ends up on the sd card which would e preferred. Greetings!

@Mark10ProVideo
@Mark10ProVideo 7 жыл бұрын
Hey, soundmasters! Similar to what price tag? Similar to 70D. Mh.....probably a Canon M6 with on of these external mic hacks: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aqS2p4OKepp8g6M Similar to G7 with 12 32:.....same as above now that I think about it:) G7 with 7 14mm: Actually the M6 again would be a nice pick...... You could also wait for the Canon SL2 or check out an 77D or 80D. Lower price tag.....Canon M3, again with the above mentioned audio hacks...... All of these cameras don't overheat and let you use external audio and come with a selfie screen. So all of them are good for vlogging and sit down talking head stuff.... Whats your budget?
@soundmasters_youtube
@soundmasters_youtube 7 жыл бұрын
Hey! Thanks for the amazingly fast and detailed response! :) I was thinking about the G7 price (found here on amazon.it @ €525)! That's about my budget at the moment.. Considering my LG V10 is shooting some pretty good videos for now :)
@Mark10ProVideo

Crisper than anything I've seen so far....owning also an iPhone 7 and a S7 Edge. Int. audio pretty good... Ok with about a 550 budget I would say a canon M3 would be another choice, but of course it is vastly different from the G7. Between the two, for home reviews only...I would go G7 definitely. You can do cool stuff in auto mode and amazing stuff if you really dive into the settings and tweak them to whatever scenario you're shooting in. Either Manual focus and stepping down the lens or for talking head stuff 1 area AF with the focus fitted to the size of your head or subject should work fine. Greetings!

I got the new Canon 77D and it has a 45 point autofocus system which is better then the 70D. I also have the 10-18mm wide angel lens with the Rode mic and that set up seems to be pretty bullet proof. You should look into this camera. Wish it was 4k though.

Mr mike this sounds like an ideal vlogging rig. How do you find the weight of the camera and lens combo?
@Mark10ProVideo
@Mark10ProVideo 7 жыл бұрын
Hey, Mr Mike! Don't have the money right now, but from looking through the specs...canon propably killed their own 70d with that thing...apart from battery life it seems to be the far better deal.....maybe I'll rent it out over a weekend and if it's that good, then I'll maybe sell off my god old 70d....which will break my heart a little....but hey the 77d looks pretty damn good to me from afar....also 200g lighter....which still makes it a heavy setup, but..,,,the lighter the better:) I will check out that camera in the coming weeks...but before that I will thoroughly test th eos m6 that just arrived. Thanks for the great info! Greetings!
@mrmike2288
@mrmike2288 7 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a good idea to rent the camera before investing in it. If you want the camera to be lighter, then go with the 24mm lens combo. Smaller and lighter then the 10mm-18mm lens. However you don't get the optical image stabilization. The 77D also takes great pictures with the amazing video quality. I weigh the set up on a scale. Havent done that yet. Also going with the rode videomicro will decrease the heftiness. Keep up the great videos!

@Mark10ProVideo 7 жыл бұрын
I love the look of the 24mm on the canon body and I liked the quality of the lens back when I owned it, but at 24mm and a 1.6 crop is like a 38mm, and that was too narrow of a viewing angle for me...you are talking about the 24mm stm pancake, right? Thanks for all the nice replies and comments! Much appreciated, mr Mike!

Hey, Phatstuff Vlogs! Depends on what you want to do..... Vlogging only short bursts of video....I would go A6000 despite the overheating issues. Also the AF is so good, that your face will almost all the time be in focus, so lack of the flip up screen isn't much of a problem either. Many kinds of videography, especially studio work with premeditated shots....G7. Lots of features for video creation with which you can really design a shot the way you want to and via the touch screen of the camera. The AF is nowhere near as good as that of the A6000, then again if you want to do all kinds of stuff the benefits outweigh the bad AF in my opinion. Hoep that helps you out a little. Greetings!

Well I am coming up with an iphone lightning only vlogging setup, that might be interesting for you in like two weeks....just letting you know.....looks to me like you probably won't run into problems with overheating, since it seem your vlogs are comprised of mostly short impressions of the place you are visiting, with short narration in between. You are already used to working without a selfie screen, if you use the phone and the GoPros, so lack of a flip up screen with the A6000 shouldn't be a problem either. Normally I would recommend the G7, but having looked at the way you do the vlogs and considering the devices you come from, you're one of the very few I would recommend to get an A6000 and the dedicated Sony Mic for the hotshoe mount of the Sony, because the location of the internal mics doesn't allow for the application of something like micro wind muffs. Then maybe even a nice super wide angle lens, like the sony sel 10 18.... That will pretty much give you a similar visual aesthetic like you're used to, although not as wide as the go pro, with really good AF performance and decent audio. A G7, for what you like to do, is not necessary in my opinion. You will be happier and benefit much more from a much better AF performance than from an immense video feature set. So in your case, given the choice between these two cams I would recommend the A6000. Hope that helps you out a little. Greetings!

Hey, Down Under Vlog! Mr Mike just told me about them. Don't have the money right now to get my hands on one, but from looking through the specs it seems to be pretty much the end for the good old 70d, apart from battery life maybe, but then again changing the bats on the 77d body seems as easy as with the 70d, no need to unmount the plate to do it. You save like 200g, which isn't all that much, but every little bit is appreciated having such a heavy setup:) And thank you so much for taking the time to write such nice comments! Keeps me going:) Lots of greetings!

I have a 80D and I'm considering the strange move of 'downgrading' to either the T7i/800D or 77D. Just not sure if I'd be happy with the smaller viewfinder, lower build quality and less battery life. Doing so would save me about 200g as you say, which does help for vlogging and if I use a Rode VideoMicro instead of my VideoMic Pro that would be more weight saving. I'd lose the +20db setting from the Pro, which means I'd get a bit of audio his, but I can live with that for vlogging. The weight of this set up with 10-18mm STM would be about 800g which isn't much more than just the 70D/80D body alone. Plus you get dual pixel autofocus, better low light capability and cheaper lenses than the Panasonic, just no 4K, which isn't really a priority for me at the moment. I am also hoping Canon will release an update to the SL1, which will save even more weight but probably won't happen a flip-out screen. Anyway, it's always fun debating the pros and cons of vlogging cameras....keep these videos coming!

@Mark10ProVideo 7 жыл бұрын
Well, build quality is a "nice to have", but if it's not like a weather sealing or now weather sealing type of deal, probably you won't mind a week in having the better Af and the lighter build....viewfinder of course is very important if you#re also into doing stills, I can totally see that. Battery life really seems to be a downside...about the hissing....the 70d is notorious for hissing.....really didn't like it when I used it with the video micro....but maybe the 77d does much better in that department since it's newer.....when push comes to shove, me personally, I would accept the hurting shoulder muscles rather than bad hissing:)))But maybe it's nowhere near as bad a deal with the 77d as with the 70d. Hopefully...weight wise imaging resource has the body with the kit lens which is the 18 135 listed a round about 1000g....I think with the mic pro you would end up somewhere around 1100-1200 actually.....or what do you mean exactly with the 800 grams? Canon lens selection allday every day...compared to Panasonics...... I too think 4k is still overrated...if we're not talking smartphone 4k with a bitrate the 70 almost delivers with pure 1080p then the tech that goes with it to edit smoothly and export decently quickly isn't worth the gain in quality....put a real sharp lens on a 1080p body... Canon SL1...if the pricepoint was still a little lower I could see it as a pretty good deal....but lack of tilt svivel screen....mhhh.....don't like it.......and of course it should really get a good AF upgrade, nebause the HYbric CMOS AF III from the eos m3 is ok, but if thy come up with a successor to the sl1 it should at least have the oldest kind of dual pixel af:) in which case I would also accept the pricepoint to be higher again:) This is fun! Greetings:)

TubeNoob wow, I thought MY reply was long! Canon 800D + 10-18 + VideoMicro = 800g approx. That's the thing, I DO shoot stills occasionally so maybe holding onto the 80D is a good idea.

Have you had a chance to look at the Olympus E-M5 Mark II? I am down to that camera, the Canon M3 and the Panasonic G7 for my next purchase for vlogging. Any recommendations or preferences? Thanks in advance.
@Mark10ProVideo
@Mark10ProVideo 7 жыл бұрын
Hey again, Paul! Haven't had the chance to use an M5 Mark II, yet. From looking at the specs it seems pretty good, but then again I suspect that it is as feature rich as the G7, capably of much more types of videography than vlogging only. So if vlogging is what you want to do, maybe an M3 is the better choice, or an M6 even. Although it is almost twice the price of an M3 it is still a lot cheaper than the olympus and the dual pixel AF of the M6 is really good for vlogging and video in general. Whereas the Olympus only has a contrast detect system. Hope that still helps you out a little. Greetings!

You make a good point, as he uses that camera as well. His 80d is still in use in his sit downs too though. In one of his most recent vids he explains it as he holds up his lumix and sony while filming with his canon 80d. He loves the picture with the sony, but hates that it doesn't have a flip up, so he admitted he won't be using it again. But the reality is that he uses ALL of his working cameras. Each has something special to offer for a specific need. Canon lacks now big time, but the one thing they do VERY well is their auto focus on the 80d and its ability to just turn it on and start shooting good vids. He did mention that he wouldn't be using the sony to vlog with, but he never said he would stop using it. He's been testing the waters and I am fairly convinced he will eventually leave the GH5 too. That's the thing about Casey, he's a Canon fan boy and is just waiting for them to come out with a 4K Camera, so everything he's using now is likely just temporary anyway. :-)

no mate , well i see your point , but in his "Half Naked Woman..." video , he told us that he won't be using the a6300 , yes i agree , but he didn't mention that the 80d is going to be used again , since now , his vlog's resolution are 4k , and for his sit down vlog , he use the a7r2 , a cage , a manfrotto tripod , and stuff , and for his vlog setup , he has settled with gh5 , and i'm pretty sure they're there to stay , so i would disagree with your opinion , but hey , it's all just our opinion , so we shouldn't fight about it , anyways , your point is nice too , so yeah , Cheers Mate!

It me again. Well, I am vlogging with GOPRO4 + gimbal. You can see my videos here in this account, not the last one. As you can see, fisheye distortion appears. I am front of changing the system (6k subscribers requested). After hours and hours, I picked up the 10-18 STM lens option, however as for the body I am still unsure. 80D would be great, but 77D has built-in digital stabilizer. I cannot find any test regarding to 77D digital stabilizer. Stabilization is prime for me. 77D + 10-18 or 80D + 10-18? What is your point? (PS: Digital stabilizer may make my video softer?)Thank you.
@Mark10ProVideo
@Mark10ProVideo 7 жыл бұрын
Hey again:) With cameras of that price range you will lose some resolution when using digital stabilization, because they do crop in, but since 70% of youtube video is viewed on a phone screen, most people won't care, or even notice. But you are going to lose some resolution, that's true. I would go with the 80D, because of the headphone jack and the better batter life alone..... 77d has the same digital IS system as the canon eos m6, so basically it has two levels of digital IS, the second one crops into the image quite a bit though. I have a comparison between the eos m6 and the eos m3 in which you can see the effects of the crop when using that kind if image stabilization. I also show how much of the image remains when using the 10 18 stm adapted to the canon Eos m6. That will give you an idea of what to expect when using that lens on the 80d or 77d. m3 m6 comp video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJ-9omqVqchmq9E Check video description for chapter links. stabilization begins around the 10 minute mark. Hope that helps you out a little. Greetings!

How is the slo-mo?

Hey, Wannes Geerts! The only "slo mo" you will get is half the speed from the 50fps video mode. It is not really slow, but it looks fine. Is that what you meant? Greetings!

Although this video has been made 2 years ago I'm gonna still make some comments because the same "problem" tends to re-occur in other videos. You are a very knowledgable guy, i learn a lot from you and you make great videos. That being said i have to make some remarks. You have a good voice and are a good talker. However, when there is a lot of information to be told, you tend to speak faster than normal. And i feel it is exactly then that you have to talk more calmly. Now i am forced to pause, think about it, go back to the start of that information and repeat. You know what i'm saying? This also is due to the fact that i'm not a native english speaker ofcourse, but still... And lastly; the colours of your text like "G7 - Rode Video Mic Pro..." are too light to read properly. Possibly and probably this has to do with my cheap laptop and cheap phone, but still it is a remark i feel i have to make. I hope i did not offend you with this post, because it was by far the intention of it. It only is my personal "frustration" in comprehensing your massive knowledge! Thank you for all your vids, you made me buy this camera after a week long back and forth and reconsiddering! Cheers!

I made a video using the Lumix G7 (with kit lens) on my channel if anyone wants to see how good the quality is! Such a great camera for the price too.

Great info..tnx...but i do not like that awful annoying repeating background music when you are talking to us...but you are not alone ...if you hear Casey Neistat ...he does not do the background music..only when he stops talking...thats the way you should do !.. :)
