As far as I understand, polygamy is meant to also be consensual with the first wife agreeing to it, but it sounds like you went into the marriage not knowing he’s polygamous. If that’s the case and if you’ve tried to address this with him, then I’d quietly without letting him know…plan an exit. If you have kids, hope you start looking for a way to make a living as the man sounds dictatorial and has no consideration for your feelings. Polygamy is unfortunately being bastardised by some Black men (specifically Zulu as I believe a minority of them still practise it) to just give them leeway to have affairs and not commit. Also my gran said not every man was allowed or encouraged to be polygamous, only those with wealth as they were deemed to be able to materially provide adequately for their wives and many children. If you don’t even have your own house and you’re expected to share one house with other women in this marriage and your husband, sounds like poverty to me with a dangerously controlling man. He’s dangerous and I hope you look after yourself and whatever you do, don’t think it’s safe to let him know your true feelings. If you want to leave, and if you have family you can trust implicitly then ask them for advice as well. Mine will be plan for an exit and if there are kids, make sure you’ll be able to move out with your kids And if all fails and you feel threatened by him the law is on your side and you can take out a protection order if he’s ever threatened you physically Wish you all the best, a whole decade of doing nothing with your talents is a very long time to waste away
