I definitely don't recommend an apartment with the amount of pets you have, and especially not disclosing them! Sticking to a house is best for the amount that you have and the privacy and freedom you need to do what you want with your pets and any future ones or fosters you may have. A rental company or landlord could easily find you online with your youtube and instagram presence. Another thing to consider is the amount of laundry you do with washable bedding and if landlords want their laundry machines being used for primarily small animal and rodent bedding. Also the amount of garbage you have from cleaning cages and the amount of hay you purchase and bring into your home... neighbours and landlords are going to notice those things quickly. Why is the new tenant bringing bales of hay into his apartment and always coming out with full trash bags? Another thing to consider is the easiness that is opening your back door to let your dogs out anytime of the day vs. having to get yourself together and walk out of an apartment building to the closest patch of grass.

I have to agree. I think a 2 bdrm house for you is better. No trying to tell you what to do. But you don't want to get kicked out because of the animals. Just saying some landlords and apt owners can be real mean.

With the amount of pets you have its best to keep your house and renovate it or just buy a different house. Because no apartment is going to let you have 2 dogs and a bunch of guinea pigs and rabbits. They will considered it as a kennel/boarding/hoarding you can could lose them or lose your home.

What a wonderful video showing a glimpse of your day and to what will be coming in the future to the pig room. Adorable Tony as he looks more like a Tony than Tokyo for sure! Love Kind Heart Rescue and the work they do! Austin, I am in agreement with many who say if you are not sure on policy of animals in apartments,with all your beautiful animals and piggies, to not risk as I have heard no good outcomes of more than losing deposits on the apartment. I heard you were restocking and had to put my order in and can't wait and my two skinnies, Harriet and Clementine are going to be excited with the order too!

Personally, I like living in a house because I don’t stress about my having my pets. My old landlord didn’t care, but still have it in writing just to make sure. I added a new pet when I lived there and it stressed me out because I didn’t mention it before hand. Sometimes people don’t understand, but when you’re somewhere you’re not happy it sucks. One thing to keep in mind is the stability though. With rising costs, would renting be feasible, or would a renovation in the long run be better?

Hey Austin. Here in the UK so many people are rehoming piggies because they get them while renting, then the landlord finds out threatens to kick them out if they don't get rid of their pets...so sad. They do 6 month or annual inspections, or when someone comes to fix something in rented accommodation, people will see your animals and probably tell the landlord. I personally offer a pet deposit before renting a place, if they say no then it's not the place for me and my babies. It's better to be honest and tell a rental agent or landlord before moving in. You don't need stress and neither do your fur babies 🧡

I always love watching your videos, you give me goals and ideas for bettering my piggies lives. Do you happen to have laundry tips? Your bedding always looks brand new! I make sure to use plenty of pigs mats to keep the bedding looking fresh along with keeping up on daily spot cleans. I also do full cages cleans 1-2 times a week depending how messy the piggies make their cages. I use free n clear detergent and white distilled vinegar on a hot water cycle to wash all my bedding.

@@ThePigRoom Thank you! Do you happen to use a top load or front load washer? I'm using uhaul pads sandwiched in fleece, so they are thick and take a couple washes to get clean. I always worry about using a harsh cleaner and leaving a odor behind that bothers the piggies.

I knew you weren't faking it. There are plenty of marks that your rescues have been authentic. ❤ Im hoping to get a bun when we move to a house...here's hoping. And I'm intending to get one that maybe wouldn't get adopted by most other people. Aggressive with humans, missing leg...something like that. I have the love and patience to give it as long as it needs to settle in and trust me. Always tell the landlord ahead of time and get it in writing that they can be there. That keeps them from finding the animals later, flipping out and forcing you to either move or lose them and potentially trying to sue (not that they'd have a whole lot of ground, but you do NOT need lawyer fees.)

Any tips to remove the hard pee/poop spots on fleece (same with calcium spots)? After a while, even with spot cleaning, the fleece will get hard as a rock in certain spots. I try to wash with vinegar, oxiclean, and detergent (type that’s not harmful to fleece).

Continued success...I hope you find a new place :) I have hidden animals in apartments, not as many as you would have to (just a cat or two). Just be aware that when you rent, they may check on your apartment once in a while, or have to come in to fix something but you should get a notice so you can remove them for that day. I haven't rented in a while, so not sure how things are now? You keep everything so clean so I can't imagine you getting in any trouble if you were caught. I'm so glad to see videos from you, not only are you very charismatic, but you show so much good information, back in my day, people would just have them in a cage from the store I bet. I grew up with cats and dogs but find bunnies and guinea pigs fascinating thanks to you!! Keep up the great work :)

So as for telling or not telling a landlord, I have thoughts... I had a landlord that was angry that I got a beta fish! A little beta fish! You may not always be able to keep them hidden, especially the set ups you've got. A landlord may need to gain access to your unit to do a repair or depending on your state laws, they have the right to inspect your unit the amount of times a year can vary but most states allow for it. If you sign a lease and the landlord with a no pets policy finds them and they evict you or tell you that you have to get rid of them, then what? To me if you're going to rent, I'd personally get a single family home and pay someone the money to mow the grass. I'd also be transparent with the landlord. And they can even watch your videos to see how you do your cleaning to give them the peace of mind that you're not gonna be having pee or chewing in their property. See my landlord has allowed me to have 2 guinea pigs only. I am the only person in my building allowed because I begged for 3 years and he didn't want to lose a good tenant for the very minimal risk to his property. His stance is very much because of his kids! 😂he's seen what having a rabbit or a cat can do first hand! So there are landlords that are strict no pets! And even mine now was one until I finally broke him down! The poor fella. Honestly, it's not worth the risk of getting into a lease and then the landlord finds out and you're stuck in the place but have to rehome the pigs or pay out a lease AND move with them. I'd just ask if caged animals are ok. Maybe if they hem and haw, ask if they would accept a pet deposit or pet rent of 10.00 or 20.00 a month to ensure they aren't out money for any possible damages. Austin, you're a smart kid, you look at the craigslist ads and the Facebook ads of people needing to rehome. And this is a reason I have seen pretty often. Just my humble opinion. Also something to consider in your new home hunting endeavors would be an income property, like a duplex that way the property is paying for itself with your renter and all you'd have to worry about is repairs and maintenance. Just something to think about.

I’m located in CT and rent out a single family home. While the property owner is aware that I have a cat and dogs, I didn’t tell her about my guinea pigs because of how people are stigmatized by rodents. I pay $3200 of rent every month for a home very close to the city but also in a quiet corner. Hopefully you’re able to find a great place!!

I live in an apartment and they know about my 3 dogs. I didnt tell them when I got my hamster or my guinea pigs. I did recently relook at my lease and saw that they do include all rodents as needing a pet deposit. Something I shouldve looked at. Im not saying anything until I have enough money saved up to where I can pay it if something comes up. Maintence has come and they love the pigs and hamster so its not like Im activly hiding them. I think it helps that they arent doing any damage and I keep it from smelling like animals.

A deposit for a pet? Why? (Sorry I'm from Germany, we don't have smth like this here 😅)
@StinkyKidEmi22 сағат бұрын
A lot of places here (the US but specifically Texas) require a deposit in case of damage. Its normally non-refundable and typically $100+ per pet. Mine were $250 per dog in the place Im currently living.
@trishawaddell56419 сағат бұрын
@@nannynananit happens in Canada too. Very few landlords even allow pets but those that do, will ask for a pet damage deposit on top of the regular damage deposit. In Canada they are required to return it though unless they can prove that the pet caused damage!
@nannynanan11 сағат бұрын
@StinkyKidEmi not refundable even if there is no damage? Wow. We also have the normal deposit , it's often double or triple the cost of a monthly rent, but even if there is damage, landlords can't just keep it. They need to give us the opportunity to fix things before they can keep any money😅 since pets are concluded as "things" in our law, they can't be legally responsible for anything hence no pet deposit. as an owner I am responsible for any damage my pet causes.

Have you considered moving somewhere more rural and affordable? Apartments are HELL! I can almost guarantee you will regret leaving a house with the amount of animals you have. If you do decide to rent an apartment I would let them know what animals you have considering your social media presence. Good luck on your future ventures!
@ivy555421 сағат бұрын
I know homeownership is a lot of work, but I've seriously been burned and screwed over so many times (literally by every single apartment company and landlord I rented from, and unbelievably stupid neighbor that didnt have insurance) despite paying on time, keeping the space clean and trying to be a perfect tenant, on top of having to share walls and ceilings with inconsiderate neighbors. I will never rent again lol! In 2024 it's also not really cheaper to rent and I'll take my sense of peace and a little more work and money over renting again. The rented spaces never really felt like mine and I always had so much stress and anxiety over the feeling of living in someone else's space. In my experience landlords and management companies don't care about tenants. At the end of the day no matter how nice they seem they're just looking to make as much money off you as possible while following the law and/or twisting it where they can and providing the minimum standards the laws require as cheaply as possible.
@Syoung04822 сағат бұрын
He will probably do better just getting a different house that has low maintenance. Apartments aren’t always the best places when you have multiple animals with the landlords and people living so close to you. Then depending on what type of apartment, you won’t have a lot of room for your animals and considering he has more than ten guinea pigs, two buns and two dogs, it’s gonna feel cramped
@l621423 сағат бұрын
Tbh I'd be careful with not telling a landlord about all your small animals. Just because it's so many what if they disapprove and then u have an emergency where ur like 20 animals don't have a home? I don't think it's responsible tbh. Maybe say u have like 5 at least guinea pigs and ur buns. I dunno that's just me.
@andrielisilien19 сағат бұрын
When searching for apartments, be wary of landlords because they will stretch any excuse to take your security deposit and more ESPECIALLY with pets. Doesn't matter that small pets are kept in their pens. It is a nightmare to prove no damages were made by a pet that stays in a cage. When you first enter a potential apartment, take photos to document EVERY single stain on carpets, nicks on walls, and the like. I had a landlord tell me that my two sugar gliders will cost an separate security deposit for each one and an extra monthly fee (again per pet) set the same rate as having a large dog. Suggies are TINY and mine never like leaving their cage. A human child does more property damage but there aren't extra fees for them! Rant over. Be careful when moving into an apartment with pets.

The dogs are used to a yard; stay with a house. Apartments can be such a nightmare with neighbors right on top of you.

I’m going to say, that you need to stay in your house. I have been in an apartment with small animals, and was charged a deposit for each. You’re better off in the house. I know it’s harder, but I would stay put because of that. The prices aren’t better renting with animals. Maybe looking for a house a bit further out with land might be better than an apartment.

You need to focus on renting a house. If you do not disclose all your animals and get caught they will require you to get rid of them or evict you. I know you won't get rid of any of your babies so an eviction would both cost you money, give you very little time to find a new place and an eviction will make it really hard to find a good, safe place to live. I wouldn't want that for you or your babies. You'd be crazy to take the chance.
