I’m so glad u brought up patient care. I’m a LPN in for my RN. I’m currently working in the hospital under contract and the nurses that give me report do the same with good report and the patient is a mess when I get to the room. I spend the first 2 hours cleaning my patients and straightening the rooms. I can’t nurse a dirty patient and a filthy room. I can, but I’m not. Making sure the patient is clean is a part if their healing process too. At night we have 7 patients and I run all night, but my patients will ALWAYS receive proper care…ALWAYS!

You aren't lying about patients not getting cleaned. My moms friend has been a nurse all her life, but when she was in the icu she had to be asking for a sponge bath but nobody was willing to do it. One kind man on night shift did it but there were so many other issues like this. I love hearing what you have to say about becoming a great nurse as someone who is going into nursing school soon ❤

I have been a cna, a med tech, then a lpn and currently in school to get my bsn and I have always believed that good nursing care is comprised of skill and compassion. The compassion part of us is the part that will make sure our patient has their basic needs to be fed, safe, AND clean met.

hi! Meg-surg nurse here (2 years in). Currently an RPN (LPN) and in school for my BScN. I understand that nurses, CNAs, and other staff are very busy and we’re often short staffed. But I still try my best, and thankfully the unit I work on the majority of my colleagues try to at least do basic care qshift. I may not do a full bed bath every shift, but I’m going to do a quick face wash, oral swab/care, underarms and peri-care (powder, pits, and peri!!!). And if they’re independent or stand-by assist, I always offer all supplies and encourage them to utilize our shower or set them up for a bed-bath. Quite often I’m behind on documenting for a lot of the shift, but if taking an extra 20 minutes makes a difference, I’m gonna do it! A lot of old school nurses trained me and almost all of them did daily bed baths. So I just followed what they did.

Nursing has humbled me. I think this approach you have comes from both your home, your heart and upbringing. I tell you, nothing can hold we back, our hearts are greater than gold. Bless you sister, and all others that know this and do it too. Amen.

I can’t agree with you more. This is an excellent lesson for all of us nurses and healthcare providers that the care of the patient is the utmost priority. This is the very reason I will never send my mother or any family member to one of these facilities because the staffing is just abysmal. The family of that woman has every right to seek action for the condition of their beloved mother and her tragic loss of life. No patient or family member should ever have such an experience. On a lighter note, I love Origins products and you will too!!❤
@ArnitaBranch11 ай бұрын
Amen, Amen, Amen. When did facilities stop giving baths? Most patients who are admitted to the hospital have been ill and not able to take a complete bath. They need a bath. The one things that gets missed is oral care. Help the patient brush their teeth. The best way to complete your physical assessment is to give the patient their bath (including peri care), change the sheets on their bed and turn them as often as needed. If necessary, certain shifts can be responsible for a certain number of baths (am/pm care) so that it is not on just one shift but every patient gets a bath and bed change every 24 hours. We must get back to the basics. Congratulations.

@@KendraRN no, because she doesn't listen. She yells, overtalks and will argue, just to show she's tough and "right." She is like this with everyone. I choose to reserve my energy for what really matters, but now, it's getting to be too much. I guess I'm afraid of retaliation, because she is very close to upper management, the ADON and supervisors, not that they have an issue with me, but she's more buddy buddy with them.

@@MNP208 it sucks. And the thing is, is she's the only ONE person who is like this with me and many other staff and patients. My other co workers and I have great working relationships. This one isolates herself and refuses to help others, but she will report others for the smallest things, yet she takes 45min lunches, doesn't help pass out or pick up trays and only helps her own patients, refuses to actually work as a team. I don't want her to be the reason I quit. I am actively taking my nursing prerequisites and will have to eventually quit in a year when I get into the program, but until then, I need to know I'm gonna be ok at work and not have management on me due to her.

Side note. Y r we doing spinal surgery on 88 yr olds? I'm really getting tired of these surgeries being done on elderly people? These lawsuits get swept under the rug after payment is received. No1 stands up & demands that conditions r changed, esp patients & their families. They complain & threaten 2 sue, but much of it is selfish...not saying they r wrong. I stay late 2 document everyday just 2 ensure quality care. I'm seeing nurses complete full assessments n the computer b4 laying eyes on their patients. This is y many hospitals r pushing bedside report. I check on & introduce myself 2 the patients & families b4 I even get report. That way I can anticipate & inquire about their needs. I'm finding some nurses r above bathing a patient. I've seen nurses call an aide 2 tell them a pt needs 2 b cleaned. I'm not saying an aide shouldn't b called, but it's okay 4 a nurse 2 do it, esp when u know u only have 1 aide on the floor. The problem with cases like this is, they will find a way 2 blame nurses & not pay or give deserving raises. Sadly, we r going 2 continue 2 c a decline n the field. There will b a yr or 5 when the boomers will b retiring @ the same time. It's going 2 a freak show.

Patient care is out the window! It didn’t used to be this way. The nurse assistants are hired specifically to give hygiene care, take vitals, obtain glucose, feed patients if needed, assist the patient with mobility, answer call lights. BUT what I see happening now is: the CNA will get vitals, do glucose check and then disappear off floor, or be at nurses station on their phone or be on the rolling computer searching the internet. (And management, charge nurse, team leads see it and say nothing) THIS HAS BECOME THE CULTURE OF SICK CARE! They will throw a hygiene kit in the room, but will never use a single supply on the patient! They will speak rude and nasty to a patient without reprimand. They don’t even introduce themselves to the patient. They just come in room grabbing arms for BP or fingers for glucose checks! But mark my word: All that karma is coming back around!
