Vlog Tour of the Viking Orion and review - Very first sailing for Viking Cruises after Covid - 19

This Vlog is a quick tour of Viking Cruise Lines ship “The Orion” and shows you staterooms 4041, “Deluxe Veranda Room with Balcony” and 4023, which is the “Penthouse Veranda Suite.” The ship was launched in July 2018 and was out of service for almost 1 ½ years, so it still looks brand new. It is so beautiful and that is why we come back to Viking.

I've been on 2 Viking Cruises with another next spring. The World Cafe is walk-in for all 3 meals. The Restaurant is also walk in but if you make a reservation you can be sure to be seated right away. Manfredi's and the Chef's Table require reservations. I recommend you make your reservations for these restaurants as early as possible - before the voyage! If you wait until you embark it may be difficult to get in when you want. The World Cafe is not open all day, just at mealtimes. If you want something to eat outside the mealtimes there is the Poolside Grill during the late morning and afternoon and another grill at the stern on Deck 7 that serves late. There is also an amazing dessert bar by the Explorer's Lounge and high tea in the solarium during the afternoon. Bon appetite!

We’ll be sailing on the Orion this Sunday on a 15 day cruise around Australia, New Zealand and Tasmania. We were fortunate to actually get tickets to the Sydney Opera House about 2 months prior to the cruise to go hear the opera La Traviata. It will be on the first night we arrive. Hope our jet lag from LA doesn’t make us fall asleep that night. We’re both very excited for our 2nd cruise on Viking. Our first was to Antarctica on an expedition ship and that one was amazing. There were only about 350 people on that ship. We even got to go on a 6 person submarine twice. Thousands of penguins, orcas, killer whales and more. We love Viking.

I can't imagine not being able to go on a cruise for a whole 16 months! What a hard life you must have! Seriously though, thanks for the nice tour, thumbs up for your video. Many years ago there was a cruise line that offered comparable first class service, called "Royal Cruise Line", but they have since gone out of business. There is obviously a solid niche market for rich people who like to cruise.

We’ve been lucky enough to have 2 cruises on the Orion…cabin 3074…she is a beautiful ship. Our last cruise on her was 2020 Australia to New Zealand which finished just before Viking cancelled all their cruises. We can’t wait to get back on a cruise. That was really enjoyable. I appreciated the calm elegant atmosphere on the vessel. I've never tried this company before, but I love the sandanavian design. I also love isea of heated bathroom floors and great big spacious showers. That spa area was really beautifully designed too.

We did a 22 day on the Viking Sky up the Amazon and that sold me on this company. Amazing service, incredible food, no children allowed, no casinos or art shows, so it is a different type of cruise. Many thanks to the lovely video!... This is like what all cruise ships should have been... Sadly, that would mean far more expensive cruises industry wise, making many like me out of this marvel that cruising is!... Good for some ones on those restart cruises though with the nicer prices!... Hope that in some 10-15 years when those ships will to become out of standard for the Viking product, they can at least to rebuild them as such a Viking Lite for such an mid price tag classical cruising experience, because the mainstream cruising is each time more amusement parks at see experience like and there seems not to be many interest on affordable elegant cruising offerings out there... But that demand exists... Have a nice day!...

Also, how did you feel about the Covid precautions? We’re in the Uk & case numbers are not currently going in the right direction. Thank you in advance.

There are no set dinner times at all. The restaurants have you make reservations so it is your call when you want to eat. At ""The Restaurant" (that is the name of it) reservations are not mandatory but they help. You have to be vaccinated to go on the ship and I thought the precautions were a little too much and hopefully they back off. Hope that answers your questions. We were overnight in port twice on the last cruise and there was plenty of time. On other cruises, you are normally in port around 10 hours but it can vary.

I wonder why the suites forward have a pseudo balcony you can't use, instead of large sloped glass windows which would be much nicer. It can't be for strength as the large bridge windows are right above.

Not sure, but I remember we went through some tight locks with inches to spare. I imagine there are with restrictions. Either way, it was still nice with the sliding windows open and it was a great view. Thanks for watching!

Correction on my previous reply, I thought you were referring to our Viking Egypt River cruise video. This balcony was okay, but a little cramped. We enjoyed using it for coffee in the morning and reading in the afternoon.

Curious, how was Bermuda? My wife and I are considering the Bermuda trip. However, we are a little unsure of circling an island for 7-8 days. Is there enough to do on the Island? Did you find yourself spending more time on the ship than onshore? Appreciate the insight.

We love Bermuda and this was my second time there and lots to do. The beaches are amazing if you like going to the beach. We went Kayaking and hiking. They give you tours of the island which is very interesting. You have to go see the Crystal Caves (I have a video of that on my channel) as they are something else! Plenty of shopping also. Being on the ship saves you a lot of money as food is quite expensive on the island.

Let me get this straight -the tongs and spoons in the world cafe are on the staff side, not the guests'? Yay!!! As a vegetarian, I get so anxious watching guests use the wrong spoon, because it takes so much effort to put one down and lift the next one, which renders a vegetarian dish inedible for me. Haven't been able to eat a veggie pizza from the buffet on Cunard for years, because it sits next to a pepperoni one, and meat-eaters take one slice of pepperoni then just grab a veggie slice. Also, most people don't realise that they often touch the meat on their plate with the serving spoon when they are adding a vegetarian side to it. This is all so distressing, even before I developed OCD and have to handle all communal spoons with a napkin (40% plus of folk not washing hands after using toilet, touching their mouths frequently, licking fingers etc. Western culture, as opposed to say, japanese, where I clearly belong!). But, this, Pat. This is heaven. You are showing me nirvana. I will go. 😄
