You’ve definitely been misinformed. I’m not really blaming you on how you view Qatar, as the media in the western world thrives on stories of how “misrable” life is for people in the Middle East, when the reality is that people feel safer and more comfortable living in the Middle East than anywhere in Europe or the Americas. I’ll only speak about Qatar as I’m a Qatari myself. In Qatar, women rights are respected by everyone, and if someone tries to deny a women her rights the government interviens as they see fit to insure that she gets her full rights as a resident or a citizen of the country. To add on to that, the rate of the Qatari women in the labour force are above the world average and among the highest in the Arab world. A lot of women in Qatar also hold high positions in the government and private sectors, with many of them being entrepreneurs and starting their own successful business. Moreover, Qatar offers the best care for Qatari nationals and residents, men and women alike; free healthcare, free education, free government scholarships for higher education in the country or abroad, and a guaranteed job after going to uni. The media loves painting Qatar as being evil and that the people living in Qatar are oppressed, when in fact it is the total opposite, but if they report the truth no one will give them any attention, their views will go down, advertisers will pull out and their money will disappear, that’s the basic concept of the western media.
