Fellow neuro diverse parent here. I totally get your feelings. You're not upset that you have a neuro diverse child, you're upset that our world and society doesnt cater foe them properly yet and the additional challenges that could bring them. But with our support our babies will find the perfect way for them. Lots of love x

Mary, it is so good to have you back. My heart and prayers go out to you! I have special needs children. I went through the same sort of feelings taking them out. Also very careful about finding care. I had a hard time leaving them with someone else. It has been a lomg while since i weaned a baby. I always started with the lightest feeding. For solids I gave breakfast to start. Sending love and prayers.

Thank you for sharing your vulnerability and heart with us Mary. Having a child with a free expression who doesn't follow society's 'norm' is a beautiful and bewildering experience as a parent, and it takes community and support to navigate at times. If you feel comfortable continuing to share, I know myself and many others would benefit so much from resinating with your experience, fears and needs. This is what I find so powerful about this platform, that we can be total strangers, but share so many truths, it unites us in our journeys. You are doing powerful work being your authentic self for us to witness and know we can do the same. You should have no shame or hesitation sharing what you feel passionate about, it will help others in ways you will never know. Trust the process xxx sending love to you and your gorgeous angels xx

Hey Mary, sending you my love. I have a 21 year old who is neurodiverse (dyspraxia) and was officially diagnosed in his first term in reception. Over the years it’s been hard not to compare his development with his peers. He’s just finished uni and the differences are now more obvious. I took go trough phases of intense worry but I have to say he’s taught me a lot. He finds ways round challenges and has amazing resilience. He’s unique and has Fantastic qualities. I just don’t want to be fluffy with you - it’s hard and a real journey but it will all work out. On a slightly light point I treated myself to Invisalign and was the best £3500 I have ever spent. Sending love xxx

I'm not a mom, so I can't begin to imagine how it feels to navigate a diagnosis like this for your child and how it could change the course of their lives. What I can add is, as someone who is neurodiverse (severely adhd) and only diagnosed last year at 35, an early diagnosis is a gift! The first thing my mom said when I told her about my diagnosis was "how did we miss this". She had such guilt and I hate that for her, it's not her fault. This knowledge is power and once you get the necessary support along the way, Gabe will live as amazing and fruitful a life as peers, if not more so. This isn't to minimise your feelings currently, I have felt the full spectrum of grief, sadness, resentment etc. that comes with a diagnosis also. Allow yourself to also see the superpowers that come with being neurodivergent, there are many. 🚀

I have taught full day, kindergarten prep for 36+ years. I have learned that Children are all different, they flourish with different styles of teaching/schools at different times of their life. It will be OK. I agree with you. Each child is wonderfully made, they are unique and amazing. I think forest school is a wonderful idea for this stage of Gabe’s life! You are a great Momma.

Oh Mary thank you for sharing with us you have no idea how it helps. My daughter had her 2 boys at similar time to you.. her first who's 3 in Oct had him during lockdowns like you.. and her 2nd is 8months. Her oldest we noticed his learning delay quite early on. He's had his first assessment and was put forward to the hospital for autism diagnosis. We were all upset and grieved like you both but are optimistic for his future because boy their personalities are boundless fun and I love who he is with my all. I hope you do decide to share more because we can support each other.. love to you x

Hey Mary 🤗 bless you, thank you for sharing with us, I have wondered how beautiful Gabe is doing ☺️ I don’t have kids so I’m not going to pretend I know what you’ve been going through and what it feels like. My nephew has selective mutism, he’s 6 and we have days where he really struggles to communicate with us and others - he will come and spend the day with us and not say a word the whole time, bless him 🥺 My sister has and continues to work with a therapist and his school and it has its challenges but she is getting through it and he is doing well. Sending you all so much love and virtual hugs 🥰 xxx

Oh Mary, you've had to deal with so much all together. Sending you the biggest hugs dearheart ❤ lt's got to be the toughest part of being a parent l think-wishing to carry our kids pains and difficulties for them, but knowing we can't. It's really scary at the start getting that diagnosis when your whole world feels suddenly tilted on it's axis but the first silver lining is that now you know your starting point and you can begin to figure out the best way forward for Gabe and for all of you,and along the way there'll be other positive joyful things which will surprise you,and one day you'll stop and look at your gorgeous happy boys and realise how normal it all feels xxx

My best friends son is autistic and I remember how hard she found it and still does with school situations. But he was non verbal and the specialised school and her of course, helped him start speaking. He is 10 now and such a chatterbox! She is now looking at secondary schools. My nephew also is waiting to be tested too. Know you aren't alone in this journey xx

Hi Mary, Thank you for being so open and sharing such a delicate part of your life with us about Gabe. Both Gabe and Elliott are beautiful boys. I work for the school system in Maryland and there are so many free resources for parents of Autistic children, I’m wondering if the school system your area offers any free services. We offer them to parents of children even as young as Gabe. I thought I’d share this to help and lead you in that direction as well, to help you navigate this. Check with your schools central offices, they may help! Much love to you and your family. Iman

I'm sorry that your child minder is upset but at the same time she should try and understand that you are really not only looking out for your precious baby, but she will also have less stress. It sounds as if she's overwhelmed and is trying to put on a face that she can handle it, but is that really good for the both of them? If she is so attached to him, there is no reason that she could not keep in touch. I'm sure that Gabe would love to see her since they may have a bond if she doesn't mess it up during the last few weeks.

Sorry, just catching up with your vlogs. Please don't feel you have to answer but how did Gabe get diagnosed? I work in a nursery and we currently have three children 'on the pathway' to a diagnosis of autism. Now I'm not kidding when I say one of these children has changed my life we formed a bond from day one and I could understand him in a way that the other staff could not get. This lead to training and exploring autism when a light bulb went off and I realised I am also autistic. This little one is incredible, we're currently on 6 weeks holiday and I'm missing him! His dad used to feel like he had failed his little boy as he hadn't reached the same 'development goals' as his peers. He's more confident now that nothing he's done has caused this, rather everything he's done has helped build and support this gorgeous 2 year old. I'd still like to offer more support but at a loss. Anyways, I have written this about 4 times and keep deleting 🙃 what I really wanted to do was say how grateful I am to you for being so open about Gabe and your whole family really. I've loved watching your vlogs for so many years!! Sending lots of love to you four gorgeous souls xxxx

My 1 year old is starting a forest school nursery in september. Im really nervous but im hoping she will be happy there because she loves the outdoors❤ I work with children with additional needs when I'm not on mat leave. I specialise in early years and ks1 with autism and pathological demand avoidance syndrome. Getting a diagnosis so young is really positive and will be such a great help when it comes time for school x
