That so sweet of you to take time to reply questions. I am new to hEDS (got my diagnosis on December) and your vlogs are my go to each day. I found them so educational and I feel like I always learn something knew. I truly hope u feel better and tbh I have finally found what are the things I think I have been suffering all my life as well, dystonic seizures I believe you call them... Seen you like that, remind me of myself just two days ago on what I call a bad flare night. And I thought I was just me. I know it must be hard to bare yourself like you do, but actually I am crying because today I spend all day at the drs receiving treatment due to the sequeles of this flare and I think I have finally found what this are call, all thanks to you, so thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you

That's how I felt when I found her vlogs. It can seriously suck but her more strictly informational videos are super great when you first get diagnosed, especially the buzzwords one, I was so lost before that one.
@christinadoherty32127 жыл бұрын
+sayurimei We have given them a lot of names over the years, myclonus, myoclonic seizures, dystonias. You may have a Dr that disagrees with the name. Thats just what my neurosurgeon uses. The name doesn't matter much, as long as they rule out epilepsy. For me a lot of times they originated from the signal being cut off from spinal instability. Im glad this could help to put a name to your experiences, or at least let you know that you are not alone.
@sayurimei7 жыл бұрын
Christina Doherty yes, I recently had an EEG that was normal, but when my pain skyrockets I always faint and when I regain consciousness I am always shivering just like you post it. I also when im under severe stress I have major bruxism. I am taking notes of all of these to take them to my rheumatologist (here in Costa Rica he is the only specialist we have in EDS) so I can tell him about it and I am.planning on showing him your clip to show him: This is how I always been for me. Even when I show it to my mom she couldn't believe it. I think my rough flares also had to do that they only caught my EDS two months away from my 28th bday, so I spend too many years just treating symptoms separately but never as a whole. So once again, a million thx, I am majoring as a nutritionist and dietitian and let me tell you, you are a true warrior, not everyone reacts the way you do to all you have experience, you are a rule.model even to this old gal. A big hug (but gentle enough that we don't pop out anything out of place lol)

Christina Doherty my gallbladder was removed because I had stones it wasn't really that bad because I only had four incisions on my stomach. I will say this have a plan for what you feel comfortable with, for after the surgery it took me one night in the hospital after the surgery to feel comfortable enough to go home and we're glad that I set a goal for myself to achieve before I left the hospital. the main reason it wasn't just an outpatient was I also had a UTI that normally would put me in the hospital by itself, so it took me one night after surgery to feel ok enough to go home.

She has already given up her candles, perfumes, bath and body products, and even sometimes the ability to cook in our kitchen. She even gave up her own smoking habits. So Im not too upset. We put new rules for smokers in place since the incident. Its difficult, because its her friends that show up with perfumes, detergents or smoke but I don't want to ask her to give up her friends as well. I had a little talk with them since and they seem to be very understanding.

my baby girl, Sasha, had to be put down at the beginning of the month. I'm still grieving and wasn't planning on getting another animal anytime soon. but i just got my first puppy because someone was amazing enough to donate the puppy to a veteran for service dog training. so he is almost 8 weeks and awaiting his next round of shots to be fully immunized. and then we will start training. but, organizations have service dogs that are fully trained. you go to the place for a couple days to get matched up with a dog, and that's it. no training yourself or anything! and they can be trained for POTS!

Jess D it varies by area. i don't know any national organizations. the way i found some by me, was googling "service dog organizations in _________" (your location). you just have to do a bit of research and read their site. some organizations train them like i mentioned, others make you provide the dog, and other train you and the dog all the way through the program. google is going to be your best friend. also, you might be able to contact like a disability office for your state, and see if they have any recommendations. good luck hun!

Hi, I'm in the middle of going through doctor after doctors appointments and trying to get a diagnosis for some medical issues that I've been going through for the last few years. I've suspected that I could possibly have Mass cell as well as EDS and was wondering if you have any advice on how to speed things up and get doctors to actually do things like genetic testing , more in depth and other testing and not just throwing pills at me and not really going through with testing that my family and I feel like would open some doors? I was also curious if you've ever used a mask under the brand name VogMask and/or any other mask that you would recommend because I'm having supposed Mass Cell attacks of some kind every day. Thank you so much for taking time to look at this and I really love your channel. Hope you have a good rest of the week.
@christinadoherty32127 жыл бұрын
+alaine h Hey there! First of all, im truly sorry you are suffering so much! Yes, I do wear Vogmasks pretty much everywhere! They are pretty great, but I can warn you that if you issue is smells, they don't work 100%, but they help. The best way really to get a good answer and and a solid diagnosis is to have the right team, which sometimes means a long wait. There a really a handful of top tear doctors across the county who specialize exclusively in Mast Cell, but often it's unrealistic to try to see them. So my best advice is to find someone who is decently familiar and willing to listen and learn. You may need to do some research and see a few different doctors, but its worth the process. I wish I had better advice 💜

i swear i thought i was the only one who had these seizures/'body tremors'/convulsions they could go on for a few hours and most id be passed out during. they started before i even had a doctor who recognized POTS and diagnosed me with it. Ever since then,i've highly believed they were related to my POTS. my doctor told me to screw the hospital doctors opinion of it being 'physcogenic' 'physcological' and that i need 'professional help' and said these episodes and tremors can happen from numerous things. so i'm glad i'm not the only one who experiences these. Hope your doing alright! they can be super duper draining and i always sleep for hours on end after one.

It always feel like lightening to me shocking me. I hope you can find something that lessens yours as well. Don't let anyone tell you you are crazy or causing them, our bodies all just react differently to physical (and sometimes mental) stress

That's horrible! At least they don't happen often now for you! I always get a severe headache prior,some of my muscles contract like really badly and then I just can't stop shaking and it can go on for over 2 hours ive been told. I've found since I've completely cut out any type of caffeine and coffee a month and a bit ago it's has lessened the tremors/seizures. Which makes me think my body cannot handle ANY stimulants anymore because my heart rate is dodgy anyway obviously stimulants like coffee would send it through the roof 🙏 (not to mention whenever I have coffee or any type caffeine I tend to get really sick and vomit.) Hope your day is going okay today!

@christinadoherty32127 жыл бұрын
+J Ballinger I wish! So far paper tape is the least horrible so we use that when we have to. The pharmacy actually had this blue kind thats a bit more gentle on skin that I like but its expensive so I mostly use the paper tape my company sends. As for bandaids I buy kids bandaids. The ones with the characters. The adhesive is wayyy less strong. I still react, but at least they are easy to pull off

You can just learn your dog some things that service dogs do to help the owners, for example you can learn him to pik up a lot of things if you drop something or learn him to open and/or close doors for you or learn your dog to bark on command so if you dog is with you and you need help but you are unable to talk to get your family to you, then you can teach your dog to bark on a hand sign... Your family can help you to teach Sammy so you don't have to put too much effort in teaching him

I'm a new subscriber. I also have EDS and also intestinal failure and POTs syndrome. I also have a channel where I talk about my illness. I try to keep it as positive as possible - just like you! I would love it if you would have a look, as I've watched quite a few of your vlogs over the last few nights and really like your stuff. I also talk about books a lot on my channel. Much love and respect, Hannah xx

Christina Doherty Thank you! You are so awesome. EDS is so hard to live with - I don't know anyone in 'real life' with it. I have just got some splints for my sublaxing joints and my goodness the pain relief is incredible! Xx I would love to chat some time. It's a very lonely illness xx

Oh, and for the seizure, have you tried cbd?
@christinadoherty32127 жыл бұрын
+CC S I have never tried it under my tongue. Its something Im working up to with my oral allergy issues. But I use it on my joints. Someday I will definitely give it a try during the dystonia.

I'm not sure if you can use it or not but coconut oil is a natural spf 30. It works really well, if you don't mind the oily feeling. I thought it was really weird at first seeing as oil usually magnifies sun rays but coconut oil is basically good for everything lol.

+Adrienne Lovegood Woah thats cool! I would think it would bake you alive instead 😂 Super interested! Im always covered in a fine level of oils anyway hahaha

Christina, can you drive?
@christinadoherty32127 жыл бұрын
+Jessica B No I can't. I was too young to have a license once my health issues started and I haven't gotten clearance to try yet. To be honest i'm not sure if I ever will be able to. We will have to see if my vision improves, I certainly won't ever be able to turn. Im not sure if there are adaptions for that. I wouldn't even be able to see into my side mirrors.
@5331347 жыл бұрын
Christina Doherty I see what you mean. They might have adaptions. I'm not sure though....

those friends shouldnt smoke in around you even outside
@christinadoherty32127 жыл бұрын
+Meg Ryan I know, we are trying to set more strict boundaries when it comes to the smoking. It is hard, even if they don't smoke here they will smell of it. All smokers do. I don't want to say she can't have any smokers over, but we may need to.
