17:52 Thoughts on Fujifilm X-H2 as a hybrid camera
Exploring New York with the Fujifilm X-H2 and X-H2S, visiting Williamsburg in Brooklyn and Greenwich Village in Manhattan.
This is the first time I've vlogged entirely on a Fuji camera. As you'll know, I've always had issues when switching between photo and video modes. As much as I've always wanted it to work; there have always been multiple workflow issues that just got in the way of things. Well, the X-H2S has changed all that!
Take a watch through the vlog and then stick around to the end for some thoughts on using the camera as a hybrid system.
In other news, I'm launching a Patreon! Finally! I've been debating this for years and always worried I wouldn't be able to deliver enough value, but I've got some great plans and ideas, and can't wait to share them with you! Join me on Patreon at / joeallam

Nice, I remember when you first got the XH1 in Paris few years ago. This feels like an even bigger jump in image quality. Really good dynamic range it seems. How about exposure, could you share your technique? Its what I'm most worried about going back to Fuji for video. also noticed some strange auto white balance shifts at the 1 minute mark under mixed lighting in the subway. I remember that used to drive me mad on XT2.

@joeallam
@joeallam Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I've personally never used the original 56mm, so can't really make any comments on whether it's worth upgrading. The biggest thing that stands out to me is it's now weather-sealed. Speed and other improvements can be great, but weather-sealing means a lot to me!

I don’t know if it was new camera euphoria or the City, but the energy of this video is wonderful. So fun and full of charming details. Question: do you use a filter for video and if so, how do you change easily for hybrid shooting? Magnetic filters?
@joeallam
@joeallam Жыл бұрын
I think it was a mix of all things combined, plus it followed an enjoyable few days with the Fujifilm team at X-Summit. I do use an ND for video and some of the photos also had an ND, because it was too clunky to take off/on in the moment. Ordinarily, I use magnetic NDs, but this particular lens I was using has a smaller filter size than the magnetic filter I normally use.

I was curious as to what picture profile you were filming on? Was it F-log? Or Classic Chrome maybe? I love the footage and it is different from the R5. Love that! Also I wonder what lens you were using to vlog ? Great video as always
@joeallam
@joeallam Жыл бұрын
Cheers! All shot in F-Log2, converted to Eterna and then with my Urban Standard LUT at about 80%. Definitely has a different vibe to my R5, but I immediately enjoyed it! Will see how I can tweak it in upcoming videos/usage. Lens was 16-55mmF2.8

great content as ever! How was the exposure changes in video if auto modes used in video eg shutter priority auto iso and or appeture? The exposure changes are very jerky when moving to different lighting conditions on the xt4
@joeallam
@joeallam Жыл бұрын
That was actually one of the key things I was looking for, as I shoot in auto iso. It doesn’t have any of the jumpiness that the X-T4 has and the focus also locks on brilliantly. I did actually ask Fujifilm about the stepping exposure on X-T4 and they said it can also be related to when you zoom (even fractionally) whilst filming as the camera technically boosts the exposure a little bit to compensate for lens design in some way…
@mattchan2897
@mattchan2897 Жыл бұрын
@@joeallam thanks joe for the detailed response. I don’t suppose if you noticed any jumpiness on the xh2 when filming?
@joeallam
@joeallam Жыл бұрын
@@mattchan2897 No worries! Haven't noticed any jumpiness on the X-H2 either, but admittedly I've been reaching for the X-H2S more frequently which has slightly greater dynamic range and the focus is faster.

I don't need any fancy video functions and specs, i'm interesting only making photos but in my favourite stable Sony didn't any good uniwersal body, screen isn't such detailed like are others offer or they have almost all functions and technologies what i need without matrix stabilization (apart from a6600 ). So my question are borning here: Will Am i satisfied with new Fuji? Is It worth it extra payed almost 4,5 k in my foreign echange (PLN/Zloty) to any new APS-C Fuji or on the start A6600 will be enough for me? I'm greenie if we speak about mirroless camera, but in the past I had many analogs constructions like Praktica and digital single-lens reflex camera like Canon EOS500D ect.

Watching your videos are relaxing for me. Was curious: how was the weight of the X-H2S with 16-55 for vlogging?
@joeallam
@joeallam Жыл бұрын
Glad to hear it! The weight was pretty good for me, as it's actually noticeably lighter than my R5 with 24-70 that I'd normally be using. If you're coming from something smaller, it might be a bit of a shock!

If you can answer yes, then patreon is for you, but unfortunately it doesn't add up for me. So I'll unsubscribe and wish Joe great success, I have purchased his Adobe products in the past and will in the future...

I appreciate the thoughts, but I think you might be mistaken. I’m not asking or _requiring_ anyone to become a Patreon in order to watch my videos. The idea with Patreon is that it’s a place where you can add support if you want to, or if you feel that you want to contribute to the growth and success of future entertainment/inspiration/whatever you get from watching KZbin. If it’s extra value you’re looking to understand from my Patreon, I will initially be creating additional downloadable guides/collections of research and planning from the travel featured on the channel, with plans for more community driven projects in the future. Personally, I think you may be best suited to sign up for KZbin premium (if you’re not already) given the amount of KZbin you may be watching. It’s a far better revenue share for creators and you’ll be supporting them fairly based on your watch habits. Plus, you’ll have a more enjoyable experience without ads on KZbin. I’ve had it for years now and get a shock when I’m not logged in and see a pre-roll ad. All the best!
