This is part seven of an eight-part series following my adventures in Georgia and Tennessee in May 2021. I finish up my time at Camp Toccoa before heading southwest to Andersonville Prison. On the way I stop by Alta Vista Cemetery in Gainesville, GA to see Confederate General James Longstreet's grave.

Mhm, lots of other channels usually only do union soldiers, no confederates, no natives, or its the other way around.

The fact that Longstreet commanded troops at Battle of Liberty Place shows the kind of greatness and restraint the man had. He was homies with Ulysses Grant and according to the wife of James Longstreet who lived until 1960s, Longstreet heart changed a lot for upliftment of social order for newly freed slaves. A true legend, a great soldier and a true American!

Despite all the respect Gen. Longstreet gets nowadays, I still don’t think it’s enough. The man is a true legend.

The book.”The Killer Angels” by Michael Sahara, is a great story about the Battle of Gettysburg and in particular, Gen. Longstreet’s part in it. Greg Redding.

Great video as always. Andersonville is a very solemn and sad place. Longstreet was the "Goat of Gettysburg". Toccoa is a place of great honor upon which so many brave deeds were predicated. Not bad for one day's drive!

Wait ??? Do you think the south would have won had slavery not been the key issue? I was about to completely dismiss this idea as ridiculous, but I guess, perhaps technically it’s got a modicum of a chance of success. Two things have to happen first the Union Navy would have to be annihilated by The Royal Navy needs to effectively reverse the anaconda plan against the north by cutting off access to the Great Lakes through the St Lawerence River . However this comes with a negative side effect if Britain gets into the war you’re going to have a new rally cry for the north which will “initially swell their numbers with new volunteers. On the other hand the southern states need to see their number increase too but they will few new conscripts can’t be supplemented via more conscription need to be supplemented by British boots on the ground. if you could’ve pulled the British in because the emancipation proclamation literally was a political move to keep Britain out of funding the southern secession movement because they were missisng that sweet cotton and tobacco. However I still don’t see a southern victory happens unless Britain sends troops releasing the blockade isn’t going to be enough on its own

To anyone who may know: I was under the impression that displaying Confederate flags at gravesites was prohibited, but I noticed this one clearly on show here. Am I mistaken thinking it was prohibited, or is it only prohibited at certain more prominent graves/gravesites? Do you think this was placed here by a member of the public or a more official organisation?

I doubt VTH is going to make any kind of comment on the removals as he takes great care to be impartial on his videos no matter what he is reporting on. I will admit I am a little curious as to what he would say as well, but I think we'll just have to accept that it will be a mystery :p For what it's worth, I hope they stay too. Or at very very least stay outdoors in a big open area that is open to the public in their original town or city, even if they do have to be shifted around a little bit. But as someone from the UK my word cannot do anything unfortunately. I just hope that when I visit Virginia next year I can see those amazing statues somewhere other than a statue graveyard. Best of luck!
