this song was NOT well accepted by the KISS ARMY (the fans) when it 1st came out because back in the 70's there was rock and there was disco, the rock people hated disco at the time, but now that I'm older (55) this song is a freaking JAM...

KISS Army mber since 1976. Their music catalog is LOADED with amazing, feel good music. To answer your question, all the members do their own make-up. You should listen to their earlier music. It is a lot heavier and not at all like I Was Made for Loving You. I have seen them over 13 times and they are the ultimate live band. They are cited as influences to a myriad of artists of ALL types of music that came after they. They pioneered the modern live rock concert. Thank you for this reaction. Kiss is my wifes favorite band. We have seen them 5 times in concert from myself in 78 and 5 times since to as soon as last year. They still put on an impressive live performance. Unfortunately it is their final tour. Please check out others of theirs. Thanks and stay safe.

They were popular when I was in the 5th grade. They did their own makeup. Us kids loved these dudes. But, most parents did not. 😂 including mine. They have a whole bunch of great tunes. There was a time that many KISS fans HATED this song….INCLUDING the band themselves, ironically. 😁. It was too “Disco” for the hardcore fans. Hey, I NEVER liked to pigeonhole myself to just certain music genres. If the song moved my soul and makes my azz wanna dance?…that’s a song I’m going to like. I DO NOT CARE who the artists are. I loved this song from the time it came out. They played it in heavy rotation at the roller skating rinks here in my hometown (when roller skating was THEE 💩….🤙🏾🎼). The thunder cracks and drums are the coolest parts I love. But, yeah….they got many Rock tunes you’d probably like. “Heavens on Fire”…”Lick It Up”….”Rock n Roll All Night”….”Beth”….”Love Gun”….”Let’s Put the X In Sex” are among the many I liked. By the time disco crossed over to mass appeal...the record labels started to pressure their artists to record a danceable tune. By 1978 groups like KISS, Rolling Stones "Miss You", Rod Stewart "Do You Think I'm Sexy ?" .... where at the top of the charts. Good or bad the disco vacuum brought in 1980's synth pop, punk, new wave and rap.

I believe (and I know others will correct me if I'm wrong) that their facepaint was based on Japanese kabuki. Saw them with and without the makeup - preferred with because it just added to the theatrics of the unbelievably awesome show! Funny how much this was disliked by Kiss fans when it came out - too disco-sounding. Love it! 🙂❤

I only followed KISS up through the Dynasty album in '79. Many Kiss fans hated the disco sound of "I Was Made For Loving You", but the track just crosses boundaries to this day. A track from an earlier album that may be more their classic sound, very mid 70s, is "I Want You" ... great solos from Paul and Ace, and great floor tom sounds by the sound engineer... Other tracks from their Dynasty album I like could be "Sure Know Something" and even "Magic Touch" (which might not have that reaction-worthy mass appeal, but is one I always liked).

KISS was cool (for a while) on many levels. I hate this song, but seeing the LEGENDARY Ace Frehley playing an equally legendary guitar. That flashing gold, custom built just for Ace, Gibson Les Paul. I don't know how the KISS song that I loathe the most...gets suggested to reactors to react to first. Been listening to them since before '75. I quit buying their albums just prior to when the makeup came off. About the same time this song came out. Try some early KISS...perhaps the three songs they performed on The Midnight Special in 1975: Deuce__She (good Ace Frehley solo)__Black Diamond (Peter Criss, drummer, sings this).
