Random question - when you're dancing with a partner, how essential is it that they're trained in the same style you are? Like if you were to dance with someone not Balanchine trained, would it be no different, just a few differences to work out, or so different to be nigh impossible? I've gathered from your vlogs there are a lot of little differences but I'm not sure how that transfers to partnering!

That was really a treat. You looked beautiful and danced beautifully. The tutu is so gorgeous and the tiara. It was so fun to get a vlog from you again. It is so great to be taken along for your daily life. The excelerating turns were so exciting. Wow! It's like the film suddenly went into fast motion! Such beautiful arms. Fluid arms yet you did the up and down hands and wrists with the releves that I love so much that the Russian ballerinas do. And he was an attentive partner and had a freedom about him. Really, really lovely. I'm so happy for you.

This performance was so engaging to watch! One of the things I love about your dancing is your artistry and acting. It was so neat to see you with a partner who could match that. In every Nutcracker I have seen Cavalier is there to make Sugarplum shine and doesn't really come to life as a character. Not this performance Aladson brought Cavalier to life! You are definitely right he's going places. It would be lovely to see you two dance again together in a role that required more acting. I think it would turn out beautifully.

Kathryn, thank you so much for such a delightful performance. I have seen ballets, but somehow I never got around to see a Nutcracker in theater and I'm so grateful that I was able to see my first Nutcracker with you on Saturday. You and your partner are true professionals and it's so easy to see why you were soloist with NYCB. Praise, praise, praise! P. I'm 58 and over the years I've seen many principle dancers as Sugarplum. To be honest, I thought I was nutcrackered out. But you made me cry. I guess the backstory has something to do with it, but it was more the way you use your arms and your back and how you phrase the steps. I really feel that you're dancing. It was not the most technically perfect SP I've ever seen (and that side view is very exposing!), but it was definitely the most moving. Beautiful. I can see why Peter Martins picked you out.

if you're still taking questions - of course there is no cure-all, but what is your method for dealing with show anxiety?? being an anxious person and hearing you talk about still getting nerves was so helpful, made me feel less down on myself for having them :)
@virginiaviola50973 жыл бұрын
Every performer will tell you that when you stop getting nervous that’s when you should give up because you’ve stopped caring. Just take a minute, get yourself focussed, breathe, it’s perfectly normal to get nervous, so don’t be down on yourself about that, just try to find a way to make those nerves work for you.
@culbycove49633 жыл бұрын
@@virginiaviola5097 I’ve never thought about it like that. I’ve been playing music for more than 20 years and I still get nerves before a live show, so I guess I still have the passion for it :P
@virginiaviola50973 жыл бұрын
@@ckc9323 agreed. There are a couple of things to add to that:- muscle memory is your friend, so the more you practise and imbed your performance into your body the more likely it is that if you get out there and the nerves kick in and you blank, your body will keep doing what it is meant to be doing, enough for you to switch back on and keep going, and this applies to musicians as well as dancers. And secondly, the world won’t end if you make a mistake, just learn from it and grow. Anxiety and nerves is the reason why I am an accompanist and not a concert pianist, I get to do what I love without being in the spotlight. Some people thrive centre stage, but not everybody does. I can’t remember offhand who it was, but a famous actor who said when you’re nervous imagine all the audience are sitting there naked. And just remember that most of the audience cannot do what you are doing, so you’re already a jump ahead. You would be surprised to know just how many well known performers are still throwing up with nerves just before they get on stage. You just have to decide which is worse, nerves and anxiety or never dancing on stage. In the words of the great AWOL, never let your fear decide your fate 🙂. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gmWwq3lraM-Ya68
