You and Mick are the best! I came from a large Italian family and Christmas Eve we went to Grandma’s house and have dinner the feast of the seven fishes, then Mass. Christmas Day my Mom always made her manicotti recipe and roast beef and my Grandparents came for dinner. Great memories but things change. My family is myself, my husband, and my son. My older son is deceased so the holidays are bittersweet. Merry Christmas to you and your family. 🎄

Oh, thank you so much for sharing. I am so sorry to learn you have lost a child. 💕💕 I have no grandchildren and don't know that I ever will, so I do treasure the time with my boys as I have them. I greatly treasure friendships as well and youtube has been a true blessing in that respect.

At the gym on the treadmill enjoying your chat. I love hearing about people's Christmas traditions and how they grew up. I have 3 young boys and enjoy making the holiday special For them. This weekend we are decorating a gingerbread house. I didn't have the little memories like that growing up so I try to do one fun thing each weekend in December leading up to Christmas. Christmas Eve they get to open 1 gift but I choose it so it's not the "big" gift and they get stockings and 1 Santa gift then gifts from mom and dad on actual Christmas. As they get older I will need to think it out more since some things just won't apply. But we all love the movies and that never gets old going together

Oh I am another one who does the treadmill and watches. :-) Oh, three boys....be still my heart. My three are just the loves of my life. Those traditions will mean so much to them moving forward. I am sorry you didn't have traditions like that...but how wonderful you are creating them moving forward. Thank you for sharing. 💕💕

@ my parent would take my twin brother and I on a ride every Christmas Eve near downtown Portland Oregon there is a big stag neon sign they put a red light bulb on the nose and it’s across a river to the west side going to downtown and there are bridges so we are usually on the other side to see it and my parents would say, hey there’s Rudolph, Santa must be on his way! We believed it and when we got home, magically Santa had arrived. I did the same with my kids but we were in San Diego so we always went and drove to candy cane lane where a neighborhood would go nuts with lights and displays and our neighbors would put the presents etc under the tree for us. That’s just one of the traditions we did.🎄

This was so nice listening to your stories and watching you wrap. My mom died in 2012 and with her Christmas faded away. I moved away years ago when I came back the first year my dad decided we would celebrate Christmas at my apartment. So we had a lovely dinner and we opened the presents. We did it the following year but that was it. Now my dad goes to Florida from the second week of December til May.,so no more celebrations. I still send out cards. But that’s it. Thank you for sharing yours with me. Take care. 🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸

My mom died in 2012 as well. I am sorry for your loss, it is still just such a hard loss. Christmas was everything to her and I hate that she is gone and with it went so much of Christmas. I still send out cards too. All the time. I really feel for you, I know how difficult this all is. 💕💕

Childhood Christmas memories are the best!!! New Pajamas, life size dolls, and transistor radios!!! When my 2 sons were little, after they ran downstairs to see that Santa really did come, they would come bursting in our bedroom with the good news that Santa came! We teased them by insisting that we first had to have our coffee and wouldn’t go downstairs to open presents until they brought us Coffee in Bed!! (It was already made the night before in a thermos) ☕️☕️ Now, as “Grandma”, it’s time to sit back and watch as my grandchildren open their gifts. Everyone has to wait their turn and a picture is taken of every gift to ensure “thank you” cards can immediately follow. Before the festivities begin and before any gifts can be opened my Son reads the Christmas story from the book of Luke from his Bible. We are all reminded that we give gifts to those we love because our Heavenly Father sent us His perfect gift of His one and only Son, Jesus, so that we can all one day go live in heaven forever with them. ❤

Oh, what absolutely beautiful traditions!!!! I love that your son reads the Christmas Story too. He is the reason for the season. 💕💕 I so hope to have grandchildren at some point. I LOVE that you mentioned Thank you cards!!! I am a big believer in them and it seems to be a lost art and/or something that does still seem to me-appropriate.

I always like to save holiday or gift bags after receiving them and reuse them for a different day or to give a gift next year. It can get expensive for wrapping supplies. I use to always Christmas shop at Kohl’s. I also live in WI. I always like to reminisce of how it was when I was younger, I’m technically a millennial but old soul at heart. I remember getting a toy sack that would have candy/treats and some small toys or books inside from my fathers work when I was small, he worked for Allen Bradley downtown Milwaukee for 35 years and they would have a work Christmas party. It was so special and I won’t ever forget going up to the clock tower and also getting milk and cookies and seeing Santa. I always wished fathers side and mothers side of family would all just get together at one house instead of separate for holidays. The string gift idea is a really cool way to find a gift. I don’t remember getting anything as a child from church but it was always a big deal to go to church on Christmas Eve. I know for Easter my family would always hide the Easter baskets in the house. I’m expecting my first child in February, it will be a baby boy. I’m hoping I can make Christmas special for him. I really dislike wrapping anything so I always try to do the gift bags with tissue paper, I’m so awful at wrapping haha. Thanks for sharing! Hope you have a wonderful holiday!

Congratulations on your new Baby Boy!! You are going to have Joy! Joy! Joy!! Several years ago I bought Christmas bags on QVC. They come in all shapes & sizes. I have used and reused those bags so many times that I’m determined that next year I’m going to buy new ones!! They sell them every year. I highly recommend them! (I don’t like to wrap either). God bless you as you start your new family!! The traditions will come a little each year. Enjoy!!!

First, CONGRATULTIONS on expecting your little boy. I have 3 boys and they have taught me I can love in a way and deeper than I ever knew possible. 💕💕 I loved hearing about your traditions growing up. :-) Milwaukee is such a special place, specially at Christmas. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE read "Betsy in Spite of Herself" by Maud Hart Lovelace, or email me and send me your address and I will send you a copy. It is a series book, but you don't need to read the series to enjoy them (but you will probably want to) but Betsy lives in Deep Valley (Mankato) and goes to Milwaukee for Christmas in the early 1900s. It is such an incredible book going over Christmas in Milwaukee and is based on the author's true life. I think you will enjoy it. Re wrapping: I am SO bad at it...but I just love opening gifts...so I do wrap my items...but boy do I love bags when I can use them. I am with you...i totally save them from year to year to keep using. :-)

Oh how fun that must have been. Growing up we only had a real tree one year that I remember. Unfortunately, mom heard that adding green food coloring to the water would make the needles greener. She added it to the water and when Christmas was done we were taking the Christmas tree out the front door with the stand, including the water, attached. It spilled all over our wonderful 70s gold carpeting. My mom had to scrub forever to get it out of the carpet and we had green ice on the porch! We never had a real tree again. ;-)
