Hey Mashale, it took time and building trust with them. they aren't afraid to try speak English (even if its grammatically wrong).I think focus on your classroom environment, have lessons where you aren't quick to correct grammar or pronunciation, and reassure them that you understand what they are saying.

Do you allow to smack kids? I used to get smack the light out me when I was in kindergarten, I'm chinese, yeah I was naughty , but it was acceptable that time, even my mom will tell the teacher to smack me if I was not behaving.
