Ivana, I loved this episode. I love to knit for other people and especially my family. I realized a few years ago that I couldn't accurately judge who would like what so I started a new tradition. This year we will have our fourth annual Christmas Luncheon. I invite my daughters (7), my daughters in law, 1, my older granddaughters (4) and two long time girl friends of my grandsons. It is unusual for everyone to be able to come. A couple of my daughters live pretty far away so they only come once in a while. I make a very nice lunch spread and put all the gifts I have knit during the year on the dining room table. We either draw numbers or go in age order to determine who gets to pick first. Everyone usually gets to choose 2 objects. We have so much fun and everyone looks forward to it. I usually make things like socks, scarves, cowls, fingerless mitts, pumpkins, gnomes etc. This year's party is coming up in 7 weeks so I better get busy! thanks for your podcast - love it! nancy

I am not able to make presents for my family every year so every second year, I fill a box of various knitting - hats, scarves, socks and shawls with the occasional sweater. My sister and all her family open the box on Christmas morning and everyone takes what they like. They love the process and sometimes it’s quite interesting who picks what 😊

Hi Ivana. Your makes are beyond beautiful! I only gift crochet/knit for family. There are those who don't appreciate a hand made gift. It is more than just "it's only string" as I've been told. It's the love and thoughtfulness that's in every stitch. Until next time...many blessings. 💜🤗💜

Oh dear Ivana thank you for sharing your thoughts on gift knitting and answering my question. 😊 I feel I should put all my bad experiences behind me now and give gift knitting a second chance. I absolutely love your sense of minimalism, I too feel that I can’t possibly need another knitted garment and I’d much rather wear to death the sweaters I have knitted already! I also love your creative ways of pairing up your hats with store bought scarfs. Your story of that ‘one family member’ did make me laugh so much, I think we have all been there before and we should not let that one person ruin it for everyone else. ❤❤❤

I love knitting for presents, but if it's my first time knitting something for someone, I start small with socks or a scarf. They get instructions on how to care for what they got, but if I don't see it's appreciated or valued, I won't knit for them again. That's how I've been going about it. We're sending off some slippers that my father-in-law has been "casually" asking for over time, so thought Christmas, or maybe even a pre-Christmas gift, would be nice. That way, he can keep his feet warm when the weather gets cold.

I'm yet to knit slippers... I'm sure your father-in-law will love them ❤️

@@therepublicofme they are very easy. Esp since mine are felted. So they are a "quick" knit, but so amazing.

Ivana, This is just a thought or reflection. It seems to me that a sense of appreciation or gratitude comes naturally for some and for others it is a void. Perhaps it has not been demonstrated or warranted. But, what better way to teach it or stir the emotion than the gift of remembrance and the gift of our heart by way of our hands. We are blessed in the offering. You beautifully presented this. Bravo, Etoyle

I really like those two-color hats, and they certainly are a lot of work, a great gift for those who can appreciate it. Also, I will now always remember that there are no kangaroos in Austria! 🙂

Thank you so much for this episode. I'm always stumped as to what to knit my family. Most of the them are knit worthy and receive socks , shawls and mittens from me but it is sooo time consuming. I love the scarf idea. Do you mind sharing where you found all these beautiful scarves. The sets you put together are the ideal gift!!!!

I believe she weaves most on her ridged heddle loom, although I did see one that had a label..but maybe she attached her own label?
