In this video, we visit the Xkeys booth at the 2019 NAB Show to check out the Xkeys instant replay interface solutions built for vMix. XKeys recently released a new jog and shuttle with a T-Bar interface. The unit includes a USB connection that is ideal for quickly connecting to any vMix machine and managing instant replay footage created in vMix. The interface unit simply plugs directly into any Windows computer running vMix and allows operators the ability to quickly scrub through recorded video and manage instant replay video for live video production. The included jog-dial is used to scrub through video frame by frame by frame. You can use the outside of the jog-dial to quickly scrub through recorded video and there is an inner area for frame by frame replay searching. XKEYS 2019 NAB BoothThe included T-Bar is used to quickly adjust the speed at which your instant replay recording are played back allowing video production operators the ability to replay slow motion video at custom speeds. This is ideal for quickly capturing the exact moments in an instant replay for use during live sports and other instant replay applications. The new XKeys jog-dial and T-Bar layout helps sports professionals operate the power vMix instant replay system with an interface-specific designed for capturing important sports replays. The layout has been custom designed for vMix replay users. Therefore all the buttons are setup to interact directly with the vMix shortcuts available for instant replay. xkeys jogdial for instant replayWe are excited to test out this jog-dial unit with our PTZOptics cameras recording at 60 frames per second which is ideal for capturing fast motion. The key set included with this unit allows replay users the ability to quickly pause or play a specific instant replay option and take advantage of the robust vMix instant replay options available today. vmix instant replay interface
We got to talk to TJ, who showed us an X-Keys Jog & Shuttle with a T-Bar controller. This project was brand new this year from X-Keys. We were using the X-Keys Jog & Shuttle as a replay controller with Vmix software.
The unit also includes USB connectivity and Vmix Shortcuts, All this and more at NAB 2019! Enjoy!

Yes, you can use X-Keys with a Blackmagic HyperDeck Mini, but it typically requires middleware software to facilitate communication between the X-Keys device and the HyperDeck. X-Keys are versatile input devices that can be programmed to send various commands, but they don't directly communicate with Blackmagic hardware out of the box. Here's how you can set it up: 1. Middleware Software Use Software Bridge: You'll need software that can receive input from the X-Keys device and translate it into commands that the HyperDeck Mini understands. Examples of such software include: Companion by Bitfocus: This is a popular choice for integrating hardware like X-Keys with various broadcast equipment, including Blackmagic products. Companion allows you to assign specific HyperDeck commands to X-Keys buttons. Custom Scripts: If you have programming skills, you can write custom scripts using languages like Python to bridge the X-Keys and HyperDeck Mini. 2. Configuring the Software Install and Set Up: After selecting your middleware software, install it and configure it to recognize both the X-Keys device and the HyperDeck Mini. Program the X-Keys: Within the software, you'll assign specific actions to the X-Keys buttons. These actions should correspond to the controls you want to execute on the HyperDeck Mini, such as play, stop, record, etc. 3. Network Configuration Connect to the Same Network: Ensure that both the HyperDeck Mini and the computer running the middleware software are connected to the same network. This is necessary for the software to send commands to the HyperDeck. IP Address and Control Protocol: In your middleware software, configure the connection to the HyperDeck Mini using its IP address and the appropriate control protocol (usually this will be done automatically or be very straightforward in the software). 4. Testing Test the Setup: Once everything is configured, test the X-Keys with the HyperDeck Mini to ensure that pressing a button triggers the correct action on the HyperDeck. 5. Practical Usage Live Production: In a live production environment, you can now use the X-Keys to quickly and efficiently control the HyperDeck Mini, enhancing your production workflow. 6. Check for Software and Firmware Updates Keep Updated: Ensure that both the middleware software and the firmware on your HyperDeck Mini are up to date to avoid compatibility issues. By using middleware software, X-Keys can become a powerful tool in your production setup, allowing for streamlined and efficient control of the Blackmagic HyperDeck Mini. This setup is particularly useful in live production scenarios where quick and reliable control over playback and recording is essential.
