I wish there were more current videos because these are fantastic. I love the level of ASL here. I appreciate no captions and the practice of context and taking in facial cues. I definitely wish more did this for those early learners. It's scary to not know, but its good practice in learning to trust what you see and context clues. The next best way is to go to a Deaf Event, and go for it, you figure out that you don't need to write things down even if you just fingerspell your entire sentences. You learn so much better when you add in the cultural emersion.

The “captions” are in the description box and they go in order so you can easily follow what he’s teaching :)

But they are so far down you have to look at them and then scroll up for each word. It is easier if they are placed on the screen

@@tanishagrier2586 Fortunately I had access to a laptop and my phone, so I took a picture of the list of words he was signing with my phone then viewed the video on my laptop using the list, but yes it would be easier to have the captions on the screen.

ASL is best learned visually, not depending on English captions. This is an upper level practice video. I love it that Mr. Wheeler doesn't caption his videos!

I think by this level it’s expected for the students watching to understand what he’s teaching. There’s a vocabulary reference in the description box so you can understand what he’s talking about

What I remember about the 5 parameters of ASL is Handshape, Location, Movement, Face expression, And palm orientation. Also what I remember about finger spelling is that you can only use 1 hand to do ASL and you cant punch it has to be clear for the other person to see, you have to be confident with it, Also no bouncing the words your using because then it will be hard to see for the other person and that is all I can remember.

I agree with below. Could you please add captions? I'm just learning it's hard for me to follow along with which sign he is doing as I keep having to scroll down to look at the different ones and by the time I scroll back up he is on a different sign.

Sharon, I understand what you mean about immersion, but that is difficult for many of us who are starting out. Mr. Wheeler moves from one sign to the next to the next, but is he giving us just one sign only for each word on the list, or does he occasionally throw in a second or third version for a particular word? With this video, I find myself frequently going to Google and typing "asl sign for _____" just to make sure I'm still on track with his list. I shouldn't need to visit another ASL site to verify a sign to a word. He has videos with the words showing in the upper left corner. Wish all of his videos were like that. Just my opinion. :)

Bob, be thankful. This video is an improvement. In the past this instructor had no CC or did not add the words in the description. LifePrint.com is a good site for us who are just learning. Then use ASlthat to complement just to get a feel on how your asl is coming along. But I agree with you.

Your videos are just what I've been needing!🙏 Thank you! -terp. 🤟 I see that people are requesting captions; are not the vocabulary notes in the description enough? They are for me, but perhaps that's because I'm not a beginner, just starting to learn ASL. Much love and praise to all of you for learning ASL!! 👍

Regardless of your level of skills with a computer or language , we all have to learn and those of us that know the tips please be helpful and not assume that people know . Even in simple stuff one may not have the knowledge to operate as easy as the next . Now as to the videos that being posted , I love them and encourage you to keep going with them and ask that at some point will you explain the proper time to use the ing, er, est . As well as the proper sign to use . Example: she mean to me ! Vs the word means ! The nouns vs verbs vs the proper sign vs English . Which converts to asl rules !
