I love that Bruno has evolved his style into 70's soul/motown the last few years. At first i didn't really like his songs but now that he did changed up a bit i'm digging these tracks! It was like a fresh wind blowing through mainstream pop music. It's probably also why i like the recent Dua Lipa's songs, they also got these lovely baselines going. Love it!

Several years ago, when my son was in elementary school, I was tucking him into bed. Just as I was about to turn off the light and walk out of the room, he said, "Hey, dad?" I paused ans asked, "What's up?" Then, out of nowhere, he says, "A lot of kids at my school like Justin Bieber, but it's just 'cause they haven't heard Bruno Mars." I was so proud, I swear I almost cried. Then a few months ago, we were in Las Vegas. We didn't score tickets to the live show, _but_ we had dinner in the same building...and just knowing _that_ filled us with joy and excitement. P.S. I love their use of Major 7ths and Major 9ths in the back-up vocals. They create a "sweet dissonance" that really fills out the harmony chords just beautifully!

My absolutely favorite part is when Pak comes in with the: "Just the other night she was gripping on me tight screaming Hercules!!!" stomp! stomp! (Hercules) stomp! stomp! (Hercules) 😏You probably decided not to mention it because of the innuendo but how absolutely creative was that?! There are so many ways in music to express making love that we've already seen, from very cleaver to straight up front nasty lyrics to certain rhythyms in the front or in the back but this is IMO, sonicly this is the best I've had the privilege to hear. It's highly suggestive & not just that, it's let's say... describing an enthusiastic final push by the team to cross that finish line for gold✨🏆✨. Yet at the same time it isn't raunchy, over the top or out of sync with the rest of the song. It is accomplished is such a playful & balanced creative manner that it delivers the point without drawing excessive attention away from the song & story.

Welp, I need this album. I listen to a lot of metal, but I love the 70s vibe. Popular music has become so homogenised and stale, mainstream music was just much more interesting and adventurous in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Nowadays pop sticks to a very narrow band, and people's musical universe lamentably keeps shrinking and shrinking. Also, Bruno Mars is the natural successor to Michael Jackson, and to some extent, Prince.
@KevinIandutton2 жыл бұрын
Ive found that the ease of access to music creation has only increased its variety especialoy as pop has subsumed so many genres and really genres themselves have become a thing of the past. I think that as we age and settle into the comfort of our individual worlds and indulge nostaliga our willingness to put in the work to challenge our ears and our tastes lessens and so does the time we might take to try new music. Fresh fridays is a playlist spotify makes of the weeks new releases and I try to give it a listen whenever I can. Not only do I find new bands all the time, I also am constantly shocked by the sheer breadth of music out there by professional and home grown artists as well. I also think with recommendation algorithms being what they are, it kindof locks us into an infinite mirror of our own choices and then all we hear outside of that are those top 40 pop songs of the moment creating the illusion that music has become more homogenous or is inky trending one way.
