This album was a major success. The problem is that radio now only focuses on rap, country, and "edgy pop." A lot of rock and alternative are more pop nowadays just to get radioplay. Imagine Dragon does this pop-rock hybrid. We need more music with real singers and real instruments. Too much computerized songs with digitally altered voices.

Maybe it's just me, but at the start it kinda looked like Jacquire King wasn't to sure about this whole react video idea. Then he quickly learned what a professional Sam is and really got into the discussion and enjoyed it. :D Really nice format!

Finally someone really explains compression in recording, sometimes the reason why singers don't sound live the same as in record has more to do with compression than with autotune, which is what most people assume nowadays. Not everyone uses autotune in recordings.

When people start complaining about overuse of autotune, I just assume they don't know anything about music production, because I don't know a single singer who would like to use autotune.

Compression is used live aswell. Its mostly the different eq for that situation and the Microphone.

My favorite part of the video is 12:20 when Jacquire makes a comment during the video, unprompted. At the beginning, he seemed very reserved and not sure what to say, but after a great back and forth conversation that you guided him into, it felt like he really opened up at that moment and that was really cool to see. Great interview!!

I can’t even begin to say how much I loved this. This additional perspective in reviewing vocals was brilliant and I’m so here for it! So many people forget about or don’t even realize that the sound engineers put in hours of work on a track. Like he was saying from pre-production, where there is so much consideration put into the best microphones for the artist’s voice, headphones etc, to analyzing/determining the best suited vowels and verbiage during and then all post production. This was incredibly insightful! Been watching ur channel since...idk...maybe 10k subs but never commented- so gonna get it out in one post lol What I always love about your “voice teacher reacts” videos and channel is that you give actual vocal analysis. So many others, I feel, either provide just criticism; not constructive criticism and/or constantly sing over the artist to almost prove they sing “just as good”- like, “see that’s nothing big, I can do it right now” kinda thing. I don’t care about that- I care about exactly what you’re always talking about in ur videos and doing when u sing to teach- that’s HOW to use the voice as the instrument that it is and all the fine tuning elements. HOW to get the note. Learning about vowels, mouth shape, teeth, tongue placement etc has helped me not only become more knowledgeable about it but also become more aware and make improvements with just my public speaking that I need to do! Lol Along with singing of course 🥰 Point being, it goes even beyond singing. This additional technical perspective with sound mixing was awesome. Same goes for you’re vocal professor! Just watching what you all notice and pick out from the vocals and technique is soo helpful! I have had so many “oh wow...I didn’t notice that” moments lol I know this was long. It is amazing what you’re doing! Thanks for such great high quality and educated content in a space that is often so opinionated. Just speaking for myself, as an academic, I truly appreciate it! You’re showing the value of education and having knowledge 💯 👌 great stuff!! P.S.- You’re such a good example of how to properly engage with and conduct an interview with a person too! I could've written this myself! I've also been around since back in the "long hair" days 💇‍♂️😂 and I've not really commented either, but you've said just about all the thoughts I've had myself! Especially the points on other KZbin "vocal coaches"! More often than not, the ones I see just seem to be aspiring singers looking for an opportunity to show off. They parrot every riff and run the artist does just to showcase their own capabilities. The flip side, like you said, are the over critical "coaches" who just want to look...knowledgeable? Like, they can spot mistakes no one else notices? Or, who knows, maybe they're just haters lol Sam does neither of these things and is incredibly informed. It's also evident that he's incredibly passionate! I've seen him display equal enthusiasm for all genres and styles because he has such a love and passion for music in general. And even more than that, he just has this charm about him that just makes you love him! He is just such a joy to watch and I hope he continues to grow and create.... And I don't know why I felt the need to basically repeat everything you just said, especially since I started this by already saying I felt the same way, but oh well, there you have it 🤷😂

This is really cool Sam, great stuff! Love how Jacquire talks about trying to capture his true vocal sound as close to his natural voice as possible and how important the microphone choice is when it comes to that goal. And then beyond that, understanding how the lyric choice and/or "refinement" can impact the vocal performance vis a vis the main melody and rhythm of the tune. And a great producer / mixer understands how important it is to keep from getting carried away with compression. Love the detailed analysis, thanks Sam! And Jacquire!!

It was interesting what Jacquire said about making sure they were recording in a key that would be sustainable for an artist when performing live. I've sometimes wondered about that, because off the top of my head, Adele, Sia & Hozier have recorded songs where I've not heard them able to sing it live as well as the recording, there's just a line or something in the song that's juuuust out of reach. So, that made me wonder if, when they were recording it, they knew this might be the case but they chose to do it for an artistic reason, or maybe not all producers think about this particular thing when recording an artist. Anyway, another brilliant video, Sam! Thank you! (Also, I was calling that little thing at the end of some the lines a squeak, haha, add that to the list of descriptors along with yowl etc. Hehe :D )

After watching the whole thing, I can honestly say that was incredibly edifying and interesting, great questions Sam! And I can see why Jacquire would be a great mixer / producer to work with, he's so "chill" and calming but at the same time he has such a great understanding of what he wants to see from the artist. And if I were a singer I would definitely want JK on the other side of the glass because he is not intense at all. Just seems like he's as cool as the other side of the pillow and perfect to put the artist in the right frame of mind to perform their best.
