In this video, I react for the first time to Lara Fabian performing ‘Caruso’ live. I I was delighted to analyse her hands down PERFECT and ASTONISHING performance, explain and demonstrate her vocal techniques and ultimately tell you what I think made it so great. Lara Fabian is, put simply, a G.O.A.T. Her tonal quality is so singular and her soul shines through her voice!

@@lone9309 Partly subjective of course, but you might include Pavarotti, Streisand, Dion, or Dimash, who cites Fabian as a big influence. But Lara's ability to convey the emotional impact of the lyrics is unmatched for me.

Lara Fabian is the best performer and singer ever. Unfortunately, she was little known in America because she was blocked by the "Team Céline Dion" with pressure on the record companies and radios. Apparently they were afraid of their tremendous art. The song Caruso was written by Lucio Dalla, a story about the singer Caruso.

As Italian, I know the song by Lucio Dalla (the one who wrote and composed it, one of the greatest Italian songwriters of all time) and every time I listen to it, tears flow down my face. Lara Fabian (of Italian origins on her mother's side) made this wonderful poem set to music even more touching. I think that unfortunately only those who know Italian can fully understand the text and the feeling behind every single word.

How good are you? Honestly, there are thousands of reactors, probably a dozen or so trained in the craft and in vocal analysis, but the depth, articulation and energy you bring to your reactions, I think, is without peer. And that's always there, but it really gets showcased when the singer has extensive training and phenomenal talent. You have so much to parse and comment about, but you always rise to the task.

Caruso, is an italian song, written, composed and performed in 1986 by Lucio Dalla as a tribute to Enrico Caruso, the most famous tenor of his time (late 19th / early 20th century). He was the first global singing superstar. The story is about the last days of Enrico Caruso, he knows he is dying, and he is remembering all his career on stage and telling his much younger wife how much he loves her. It has very quickly become a classic of italia music and the biggest names have covered it (Julio Iglesias, Andrea Bocelli, Josh Groban, …. and of course Luciano Pavarotti). Even Metallica covered it But for many, Lara's version from the concert From Lara With Love 2000 kzbin.info/www/bejne/eIGVfKGCmtKHbZo is the best ever, as she was able, with her unique ability to convey the emotions of a song, to reveal the real sad story written by Lucio Dalla. I was told that Lucio Dalla himself, after hearing this performance, said that she made it her song and this is the best version he has heard from it. For Lara, this song is really important as this is a kind of anthem for Italy, and she is so much connected to this country. She spent the first few years of her life there with her sicilian mother and grandma. Italian is her first native language. Her husband is also sicilian. She also has been living there for the past few months since the end of 2022.

When tenors tackle this song, as Lucio Dalla no doubt intended they should, given the subject, they always attack that first line of the chorus, _te vogli-o be-ne assai_ as a big flex moment, and fair enough; but Lara pulls back and turns the phrase into a suspension filled with so much yearning, tenderness and nostalgia that it almost breaks my heart. Her story telling is second to none, and her Neapolitan Italian accent is as creamy yet salty as a plump fresh anchovy. My favourite reading of this song, and a great reaction Lolli. You always hear some things I've not heard before, so much so that I don't even mind the generic affirmations at the end 😂

This performance is from her PBS Televised concert "From Lara with Love 1999-2000). Every performance from this concert is worthy of a reaction. She also sings in Spanish (Quedate) and several songs in English(I will Love Again, Broken Vow, You're Not From Here and others). BTW, she wrote lyrics to several of the songs performed. Her mother is Sicilian and father Belgian. Before starting this performance she spoke in Italian and made a reference to her mother and grandmother's heritage. Lastly, you have a wonder singing voice!!

🇨🇦 Lara studied in Belgium for nearly 10 years, is a fully trained Lyric Soprano, and still returns there quite regularily to refresh and add to her gift ! This version of an old favourite Italian gem, is widely considered to be the finest ! You mentioned her pronunciation, but I would add, that lara takes each syllable in each word, in every line in every lyric, to a clear and complete end, no matter in which of the 12 languages she sings ! For my favourite song of hers, you might need a box of tissues ! Please do a reaction from the same concert called "You're not from here" ! 🇨🇦

Lara's mother and maternal grandmother are Italian. They raised her in Italy her first 5 or more years. Still, she is a polyglot, having many languages at her disposal. When you get to know Lara's singing, you will be far more aware of how much influence she had on Dimash. There is a video floating around of Lara and Dimash meeting for the first time at an Igor Krutoy Birthday Bash. The man adores her.

You can't even imagine how anxious I was since you said on Patreon that you had made a new analysis of Lara.... I have two mixed feelings, one bad and one good... the bad one is that it took you a long time to reanalyze Lara, and the good one is that you have done it, thank you very much. At this moment that I have just seen for the first (of many, I am sure) time this video of yours, my nerves are on edge, because in 10 days I will be listening to her live. There are few singers who have had such a long career as Lara (you saw in the chat that she participated in Eurovision 88), maintaining a vocal and interpretative quality as she has done. It is clear that I am not impartial, her voice resonates deeply in me and once I have listened to her, I have found the voice that moves me.

I would love that you don't take so long to analyze again one of her performances (I confess that I like her live performances more than her studio albums, I don't know, I find them more... soul) and I would recommend that, although all her concert "From Lara with Love", "Nue" or "En toute intimité" are fabulous (this last one is my favorite), I would suggest that you take a step back from that moment at the beginning of this century and listen to her in a more recent concert with a theme like Mademoiselle Zhivago www. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5ioq3SZntGoo6M, and of course, I would also recommend you to listen to her in her first period, invited by Johnny Hallayday singing Requiem pour un fou, a song inspired by Marcel Carné's 1939 film "Le jour se leve", I am convinced that you will like both songs very much and in this second one you can bring to your channel a myth of the French song, perhaps the most important rock singer of this country.

No-one, in my humble opinion! - has ever done a better Caruso. It's not just the stunning beauty of her voice, but,as you point out, her massive and finely honed vocal toolkit, her incredibly micro-nuanced use of it, and the intentional use of every breath between. THEN there's her body language 'word painting' as well as her overall stage presence. We always know when an artist is giving it their ALL - and Lara does, each and every time. Just wonderful. Great 'unpack' as always. (I'm always stunned by YOUR voice and Your skills too. We need to see /hear more of YOU!}
