If want another performance of this song, Jarkko Ahola's is worth a watch, another Finnish Jarkko Ahola - Walking In The Air kzbin.info/www/bejne/jaKlhHd4atR7q8k Finland has this tradition were a gathering of metal musicians and singers get together each year, and go on tour around the country singing Christmas carols, called Raskasta Joulua project. Some years they have released an album, but the only English language album is Ragnarok Juletide released in 2014.
@ValtteL2 жыл бұрын
The Poet and the Pendulum (official live), Wembley Song is a masterpiece and their performance was sensational. One of the most important songs in Nightwish lore and almost 100% sure they will never play it live again. Backstory of the song is: 2005 the guys fired their extremely popular lead singer Tarja and in Finland it was a chaos. Some of the fans and the media were very angry and the anger was directed at Tuomas because he is the leader of the band. Tuomas made song about all the emotions that the whole chain of events evoked and it was the first song on their next album. You should put subs/ccs on, lyrically incredible work from Tuomas.
Uploaded 11 years ago, but the concert was 29 Dec 2000 in Tampere , Finland. The 'From Wishes to Eternity' DVD. Sami Vanska on bass, Marko joined in 2001. The song, which is on their second album Oceanborn, is a cover. Howard Blake wrote it for a 1982 film called The Snowman.

I'm a such a Floor fun but... That performance by Tarja is something incredible! I was (and still am) so in love with Nightwish, I have this performance on VHS 😅 It maybe uploaded 11 years ago but the performance was something like 1998-99. Imagine that Marko wasn't a member of the band back then. I'm so in love with the Idea of a Nightwish concert with all the old and new members, a symphonic orchestra and a choir.

One thing I love with Nightwish doing covers is that they always add their own twist to the ong and, at the same time, stay true to the original version. Wether it's Phantom of the Opera, Walking in the Air, High Hopes or even Over the Hills and Far Away, they always manage to keep the "spirit of the original version but still make it a typical Nightwish song.

Interesting that you think of this as such an iconic Christmas song. I realized that I really fell in Love for Tarja month ago, after 18 years of missing her life story and career. I listened them (old Nightwish) a lot in 2004 and some years later. But what happened now - don't know. Grew enough to return to this music and voice with mature perception. I watched 30 or 40 Phantom of The Opera reactions during last month :D And happy to find your channel (via PoTO reaction), you are so bright and attentive to subtle things and overall vibe. In 2004 I loved "Walking in the Air", and still love it. But this time I found the song "Sleepwalker" awesome. Had not hear 'something special' in this song until these days. Some days during the February I listened "Sleepwalker" hours and hours on repeat. Somehow I feel/hear this song is special for her.

If you liked this one, you will for sure also love "Swanheart" from the same concert. And in the end, the whole concert is great, maybe its because that was the first time i saw them actually in persona over 22 years ago, but its still my favorite Nightwish live performance. It just had some special kind of "magic" that the newer shows often didn't had anymore in this form. Is maybe the more intimate setting with just that plack/purple atmosphere .. not sure.

I highly recommend you check out "Nightwish - Pharaoh Sails To Orion (From Wishes To Eternity, Live" (recorded in Tampere, 2000). I'm a layperson when it comes to music education, but I think that Pharaoh Sails To Orion is possibly the most musically interesting song that Nightwish has ever created. That is what my intuition tells me. I'd love to hear your thoughts on what I believe is a fascinating composition. I requested that the original uploader add the lyrics to their video but after a long time of no action on their part I decided to do the work myself. So reuploaded the video with subs in the Closed Captions option in KZbin. I obviously don't get any revenue for the work the copyright owner will still get all the revenue that the video accrues, but at least you now can fully appreciate the song with the subtitles without the bother of looking for external subs and messing about with multiple browser tabs. Great attempt to work out the track on your keyboard. You pick out the notes well. I think that track is on "From Wishes To Eternity - Live" DVD which came out in 2001. Tarja Turunen is playing London in February 2023. Her solo project brings out the best of her powerful vocals. I know Nightwish are playing Wembley Arena in November. Sadly sold out. The good news they are working on a new album. So maybe a release in 2023. I love the Symphonic Metal genre. I saw "Visions Of Atlantis" and "Xandria" down the Camden Underworld early this month. Great fun.

We all know Tarja Turunen's voice is top notch. However, I'd like to put the emphasis to the hauntingly beautyful vocals of, (in my opinion very underated singer) the Australian/Dutch soprano Mirusia Louwerse. Andre Rieu calls her "the angel of Australia", I would say; she's the best example of a siren. With a voice like that, she'd capture a man's soul instantly. In Greek mythology, sirens were humanlike beings with alluring voices. And that's excactly how I would describe Mirusia's vocals. Here's Mirussia's rendition of "Walking In The Air" kzbin.info/www/bejne/d2KQZWSDmtKll5I

Great analysis! If you want a different (but even more appropriate) seasonal feel, go for the NW Hallowe'en song, Scaretale (with Anette, not Floor). Be prepared for Marko and Anette in full-on musical theatre mode, including character voices. This is a good video using clips from the film _Imaginaerum_ and live performance: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJ-8o6aZhJqYhJo You could also go for the official live performance - which is well-performed, but be warned the video recording quality is not so good (it's basically one person with a camera at the back of the venue shooting over the heads of the audience): kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3bQoYZuepyXaZI
