It is worth to mention that this performance was not a part of the program. It was a last minute change by David Foster so Stell here doesn't have any preparation except for the one time brief ran down of the song arrangement with David hours before the concert. It was during Stell's rehearsal for the 3 songs that he is going to sing for the opening act of the concert that David called him and asked him if he'd like to try to sing All By Myself. There is an interview about this where Stell narrates this unforgettable and nerve wracking experience. No way in the world, could Stell say no to a David Foster, so he agreed to sing the song even without preparation, even if he was only contracted to sing 3 songs as opening act. David is known to make last minute unexpected changes in his concert program according to his feel or liking. Thank you for reacting!

This is a performance I have watched more than I can count. David Foster asked Stell to sing this song during their sound check the morning of the concert. He thought David was joking, he had absolutely no practice prior and was only supposed to open the night with 3 other songs. You can see during the performance that he mumbles a bit between verses; he said that's him doing a quick practice of how the next lines should go according to what they had agreed that morning! BTW, Stell is a member of a Filipino male group called SB19, where he is the main vocalist, lead dancer (yes, he's also one hell of a dancer, among other things), and choreographer. They are phenomenal. Please consider checking them out. I would recommend starting with their live performances in The First Take and/or the Wish Bus.❤

Stell is a member of Phil. Pop idol. He once sang this as a solo performance in one of their concerts. But this night he was a guest as a front act and prepared 3 songs All I Ask, Defying Gravity and his single Room(Wish Bus USA just drop the video) During rehearsal David came up on stage and call him asked if he knows the song. So confused he said yes and asked if he is going to sing it that night? Will see said David. They practiced it twice just follow David's arrangement. So actual performamce when told he only got one chance that made him more nervous.

I agree, Stell he is a very agile singer - not to mention so versatile that he's able to adjust his vocals within the context of a song (especially the ones within his group. Yes, he's part of a group named SB19 and I really recommend you check them out 😍) He wasn't actually vocally-trained until he joined as a trainee in their old company. In fact, he went as far as to avoid voice lessons as a kid despite his family's wishes. This was after he was scared by his grandpa's friend (a vocal coach who once trained a famous Filipino singer) who made him sing "My Heart Will Go On" on the first day. The vocal coach liked his voice and told him to come back the next day for lessons, but Stell never returned. Instead, he focused on dancing. As for the part with the voice break, there's actually another video that's much closer to the stage showing how Stell was actually singing so softly that the cams from a far distance couldn't pick up. Nonetheless, it doesn't diminish from the fact that Stell has great musicality, knowing how to manipulate his low and high notes to bring emphasis and impact on the major plot points of a song. Stell is a member of a Filipino boy group called "SB19". He is not only a good singer, he's a great dancer too. He was invited to the David Foster and Friends concert in Manila to do the opening act only. All by myself was not part of the initial song line up. During soundcheck David ask him if he wants to perform All By Myself, he hesitantly said yes. He has been singing this song in other concerts but was not prepared to sing it for that particular show. He only practiced the arrangement before the concert. PS. Stell was sick a few days before the concert. The following day after getting sick, he had a launching of his new song "room". And the day after that, he and the boys had to fly to Agusan for their performance and had to fly back to Manila for the David Foster and Friends concert the next day. He had been sick and had no rest but still nailed the song👏

Stell was actually nervous during this performance because it wasn't part of the original program. He was only scheduled to perform three songs for the opening act. However, a few hours before the concert, Mr. David Foster asked if he wanted to perform "All By Myself." Stell eagerly accepted the opportunity. That big breath he took after hitting the high note was a sigh of relief for successfully nailing it. 😊

What makes this performance even more incredible is that Stell was only supposed to be an opening act and this "All By Myself" performance was unplanned, not part of the concert repertoire, and an impromptu challenge from David Foster. It's insane to think that he had already sung three high-pitched and vocally demanding songs, and to top it off, he's not in the best condition (he's sick). I had to mention, too, that a day prior to the concert, SB19 had intense performances at an event. And the elephant in the room-he's a man, hitting the piece in female key and doing it cleanly. Stell is a legend in the making!

Thank you for doing this. Stell really delivered in spite of his nervousness as he didn't have a proper rehearsal. He was supposed to be just the opening act. He sang Defying Gravity, Adele's All I Ask and his own Room. All By Myself was a last minute addition. SB19 just landed in Manila from an event and Stell went straight from the airport to the venue. Imagine he's tired but he gave his all. It's hard to fathom that he's the last member to release a solo song. Please check out Room and SB19's performances of Gento and Mapa on The First Take.
