Thank you all for your valuable insights on the recording process of this performance. I've learned from your comments that the video is actually the result of two continuous live takes, with the audio being from the first take. This even further exemplifies the incredible skill and professionalism that Morissette and her team bring to their craft. While the visuals were a combined final edit, the 'one-take' vocal performance remains a testament to her extraordinary talents. My original praise stands, and these new details only serve to deepen my admiration for this exceptional artist.

I think Morissette is the vocal guru. If you're looking for the perfect singer, Morissette will show you them all. As you said, she creates such a strong bond with her songs that, as listeners, we too travel through the song. In my opinion, she is the best female vocalist of recent years.

This is probably the first reactor who said what has been blatantly obvious to me for 4 years and that is …. Yes the Phillipines has the greatest concentration of singers who can hit high notes in the world! I love Regine , Jona , Katrina, KZ , Moira , Sheryl, Gigi , Klarisse , and dozens of civilians in malls I’ve seen amazingly sing the hardest songs imaginable!!! Morissette , however, is something different! She has all the firework vocals in spades but her tone, facial expressions, emotional delivery,dynamic control, and real life connection to the music tip the scale for me. I’ve never seen a more consistently brilliant performer in the last 4 years. I’ve had the pleasure to hear her voice from 50 ft away and the resonance really stood out. It’s full and powerful and perfectly pitched ! I only got 4 songs 2 were ensemble it was a 3 person concert with 2 male Filipino artists joining her but I would love to hear her do a full set one day. I’m not sure there is a more talented lesser known person in the world.

The edit you speak of is probably for camera options. The production team did the same for the Bruno Mars medley. Morissette's husband (Dave) and her team shoot these live but may need multiple takes for editing purposes. If you have the time....Morissette sings the song LIVE on the Wish Bus in one take....as well as a version in her home while she plays piano. Thank you for supporting this generational artist!!!
@DrDanRobinson Жыл бұрын
Absolutely, multi-camera setups and editing are common practices in the production of live performances to ensure the best angles and visuals are captured. It's impressive to hear that Morissette was able to deliver a one-take performance on the Wish Bus as well as another version in her home. The ability to perform live with such consistency really speaks to her skill as an artist. Thanks for sharing this information and for being an advocate for such a talented musician!

Great reaction as always, Dr. Dan! To clarify, the drummer in this video confirmed that they only did TWO *continuous* live takes. The "multiple video shots" were coming from only TWO live takes. While the visuals were stitched together from two takes, the vocals are another story. *What you just heard was a "one take" vocal performance.* Her husband, who was in charge of the final edit, chose the better of the two live takes, and that's what you just heard! The drummer said that their 1st live take was already perfect, but they did a second live take for "safety" (his words). The bassist in this video (Morissette's long-time musical director) corroborated these facts in his own vlog. Regarding the post-processing, they did the usual EQ and compression. Regarding the performance itself, Morissette is simply a MONSTER vocalist and interpreter. You are totally right about her innate ability to connect with the lyrics and the listener. It is this ability that elevates her to the highest echelon of singers, and the crème de la crème among her contemporaries in the Philippines.

Thank you for clarifying the details about the recording process. It's astounding to hear that only two continuous live takes were required, and even more so that the vocals are from a single "one-take" performance. The level of professionalism and talent that goes into such a production is remarkable. It's clear that Morissette and her team, including her husband Dave Lamar and her long-time musical director, are all highly skilled and work seamlessly together to create these phenomenal performances. The drummer's comment about the first live take already being "perfect" but opting for a second one for "safety" really underscores the consistency and prowess that Morissette brings to her craft. Regarding post-processing, EQ and compression are standard in the industry, but they can only enhance what is already a stellar live vocal performance. I completely agree with your assessment that Morissette's innate ability to connect with the lyrics and the audience places her among the crème de la crème of vocalists, not just in the Philippines, but arguably on a global scale. Thank you for sharing these valuable insights; they indeed add depth to our understanding of this exceptional artist.

@@DrDanRobinsonto appreciate more the talent/ability of his musical director, Adonis Tabanda, the guy who plays bass in this performance, you gotta listen to her cover of M. Carey's Fly Like A Bird and his arrangement of Mori's acapella version of Rise Up with the vocal group 3rd Avenue, which he is also a part of. That is probably the best that song is ever going to be sung.

What I love about Mori the most is she doesn't sing to impress her audience, she sings to connect with them. It's like she turns that song into a planet and then goes in there and live there until it's over. It's like she sees every lyric of the song and turns it into an emotion. There are singers out there that were just there to sing and just flex all day, yeah they're great but that's it really, nothing that urges me to listen to it again.But with Mori, God knows how many times I listened to her songs but still has the same effect on me every single time. Finally, her tone is just unique to her, there's something about it that hits me directly. It's like a perfect frequency to my ears that I'll never ever get tired of hearing. #MoriMyGreeatestOfAllTime

It was a one take performance, Adonis tabanda her musical director and her base player in 3rd ave has spoken on his channel on how it was put together, her husband DAVE LAMAR is the guy who does all her visuals for this one take performance, theres many videos of her doing a lot of impromptu unrehearsed performances, she is the master of the one take, thats what separates her from the rest, she can just pick up a mic and go off, shes a totally unscripted ARTIST, by the way she is singing in Tagalog a Philippines dialect, her own language is Bisaya, a dialect that is used in her home province of Cebu Philippines, she had to learn Tagalog when she moved to Manila when she was 14yrs to pursue her music career 🇬🇧🔥👌❤️.

That's fascinating to learn about the intricate details that go into Morissette's one-take performances. The collaboration between her and her musical director Adonis Tabanda, as well as her husband Dave Lamar for the visuals, clearly contributes to the high-quality output. Her ability to deliver impromptu, unrehearsed performances really sets her apart, making her a unique talent in the music industry. The additional context about her linguistic background is also intriguing. It's impressive that she not only had to adapt musically but also linguistically when she moved to Manila, learning Tagalog while her native dialect is Bisaya. Such versatility surely adds another layer to her artistry. Thank you for sharing these insights and helping to shed light on what makes Morissette such an exceptional artist! 🎵

this was definitely shot more than once. as a director/editor for more than 20 yrs, it's easy to spot inconsistencies in cuts. dr dan already mentioned the hair. a more glaring shot inconsistency can be seen @14:19. watch the position of her arm. and the inconsistency has nothing to do with different camera angles as others have suggested. in fact, multiple cams are actually used to hide errors. now it is possible that the vocal recording was done once with multiple shots of mori reenacting the singing to provide more exciting visuals. but for sure, the video was shot more than once. and that's ok. it doesn't take away from mori's capabilities

Just wanted to add that most, if not all, Cebuanos (people from Cebu where Mori grew up) including Mori are generally trilingual from a young age. We speak Cebuano (Bisaya) in our day-to-day but the medium of instruction in school from kindergarten to post grad is actually English. We are also fluent in Tagalog because most local media and news are in Tagalog aside from it being taught as a separate language in school as well. Another fun fact is that Tagalog and Cebuano are actually two completely different languages (not just dialects). So, in a nutshell, most Tagalogs cannot understand Cebuanos but most Cebuanos can understand Tagalog. Source: I grew up in Cebu :)

Apparently it was done with 1 audio take and 2 video cameras where they spliced it together. Filipinos are like that where they want the best audio and video take. Take for example her rendition of rise up most will tell you to react to the Wish Bus version because of the audio quality . You should however react to her Live Love Gala rise up version. Because even though it is shot on someone's phone. You can tell the quality of her singing is much better. And it's just raw singing with no reverb even

Dan, after listening to your Review, and waiting hours for you to get the proper imfo, about how this was actually done, understanding it and coming back to say you were wrong, (or mistaken), shows your Integrity level. Kudos to you Sir, and after reading all the comments and your replies, I have to say what a great analysis and critic of this one, I agree with all. When you requested, our choice's for her Top 3 LIVE's of her, I had to sit back, rub my chin and think.. I would have to say (for me) that her Early live work is not as polished as her current, Therefore, I would have to go with.. 1. Her Live Original of "Akin Ka Na Lang", done at "The Loft" Aug. 10th with the Original Songwriter and the audience just feet away in a very intimate setting, no Post prod. done as far as I can tell, (or VERY little).When they try to pull a fast one on her at the close of the song, and she just goes along and makes it something you can never forget, just having fun with it, is truly mind-blowing.and then after say's "where were we going?? We took it to church" its just simply one of her very best. 2. I would have to say her Digital PHOENIX Concert, Pt#5, (shot Live and Post Produced) another spectacular display of her in full on out of control Vocal Prowess, ( The Sia Medley is out of this world). 3. This has to be included - The Bruno Mars Evolution Medley. Done at the same Venue (possibly the same day) as this one, Shot in several camera's and again, 2 takes, both fully Live and put together for best Visuals yet single Vocal's, is just Outstanding. Thanks for this awesome review of one of the most unknown yet best the world has not seen Asia's Phoenix. I have said it 100x if I have said it once... She Has No Equal. Thanks again!

you'd appreciate her performance more if you know a bit more about the song. It's a soundtrack for a drama about infidelity. A remake of a Korean drama called "Broken Marriage Vow". The woman was cheated on by her husband. Being a mother in a conservative country, she fought hard for her marriage to work; it didn't in the end. "Gusto Ko Ng Bumitaw" roughly translates to "I want to let go". For me, the emotion that she puts on every word definitely emphasizes the emotion of the character throughout the drama; staring of as frail to becoming a fierce woman/mother. Love your chanel
