@@bchemptyyeetttt all the more reason why it makes no sense: I have watched many other KZbin reactions to this same song, where all they do is play the video and then say something lame like " wow, yeah that was awesome" and they don't get any flack for it. If it's automated then it would be set up with an algorithm that uses some criteria such as how many times the video is paused and for how long to determine if it is being used just to pirate a video that draws traffic to a channel or is it actually being used to educate, and nobody is watching Roberto just to see/hear an artist because it would drive a person nuts as often as he pauses, replays, stops, talks, plays another 10 seconds etc etc. You only watch Roberto's videos if you actually want to learn something. If it is an algorithm I would love to know what the parameters are because I could list half a dozen KZbinrs off the top of my head that are definitely using the "reaction" format for no other reason than to increase traffic to their channel because whatever their original purpose for starting their channel didn't pan out so they suddenly change to a reaction channel and their numbers increase exponentially.

I think it's because he plays the entire verse/chorus without pausing before going back, and that trips the "fair use" alarm in the algorithm. So there are five chunks that are, in this case, each more than a minute long.

Unfortunately, many unqualified reactors use PTX videos to increase their subscriptions, since Pentaholics tend to be a passionate and loyal group, and will support anyone who discovers the band. Kevin never used to sing, but in the early days of Pentatonix he lived with Avi, their original bass. Avi is a classically-trained "basso profundo", and he helped Kevin to train his naturally beautiful tenor voice. Aren't we lucky! Kevin was already skilled musically, having played twice as a soloist at Carnegie Hall, cello and saxophone. (He also completed pre-med at Yale before joining Pentatonix. AND he speaks fluent Mandarin.) Kevin is no slouch, and many say he is the most talented musician in the group, writing and arranging, as well as performing his foundational beatbox with the group. In some PTX videos he plays cello while beatboxing... a skill he invented that he calls "cello-boxing."

@@tonie48 I do believe Kevin learned to play the cello while living in China. He probably also worked on his beatboxing skills there. Anyone?

I just read through the comments to find one about this, and would have added it to my own comment if someone else hadn't mentioned it. I was in matching band as a teen and had the privilege to hear this performed by 2 college bands that had real bagpipe playing members. Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. They both were phenomenal to hear in person and I so loved that Pentatonix gave this nod to the tradition of bagpipes playing Amazing Grace. It would sound something like this, but back in the late 80's people had clunky video recorders so you won't find either band doing it with bagpipes on youtube kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZe2fn2mfZ6mjs0

Roberto, the way you are poetic with the musicianship and technicality, the dynamics that are often mathematical and separates the emotion from the music is a breath of fresh air. Suddenly brought back and the gap bridged once again to the marriage between the emotion and the math of music. I treasure your knowledge of music theory that you breathe life into. I have trained in music theory and always got bogged down in the "classroom" setting, caught in trying to figure out the math of it all. It surely figures an Italian of all people would seamlessly bring the two together for me. The way you present the theory and the emotion identifies everything my ear hears and tells me "is right" and makes sense. There are so many elements of this group, their arrangements & performances to appreciate but for now, I love how secure they are in their own talents that they freely support each other when it’s not their turn in the spotlight. They are there for each other & always deliver their best. I rewatch their official video often but I’ll also watch this reaction again as well. I have played in a worship band for many years, and know this basic arrangement pretty well. When you talked about Kevin (the beatboxer) dropping out and the vocalists flying - that's when our band (and plenty of others as well) tend to drop out the instrumental backup and sing acapella. With a group that is already acapella, they did a brilliant job of imitating that effect. The singers are all singing words rather than oohs or aahs or rhythmic sounds. They are more like a choir than instrumental backup. Still, after having done this for years, I now know why it works so well because of your explanation.Thank you.

So glad that you were able to react to another Pentatonix song! THOROUGHLY enjoyed this!! The images that you paint as you listen to them are beautiful. I absolutely agree that with this song....you can feel it on your skin. Literally get chills every time MItch and Kirstie sing "like a flood" and I have listened to this 100 times! Please continue, I get so involved I forget I'm reading the subs!

Thank you, thank you, thank you Roberto... I was one of those who requested this one. I have sung many versions of this song over my 66 years (Chris Tomlin version and the original), and nothing has ever given me the "chills" like their version. As usual, their harmonies bring new life to an old classic. My favourite part is Matt's bass during Kirsten's solo... goose bumps! Frankly, I would love to see the members of Pentatonix "react" to one of your reactions.

@@LezioniDiCantoOnline The bit where you described the absence of the beatboxing at the climax being like, running and jumping off a cliff, and that moment suspended in the air... it is exactly right. Actually, it was such an accurate description that I saw a vision of it in my mind, and almost teared up. And I also realized that when Kevin (the beatboxer) hits his high notes in the end, it's like he's the last to join the group in flight =D and that made me smile so much.

Not a single second too long, it was so interesting from beginning to end ! I really appreciate that you take the time to clearly explain all those details and technicalities. And it was funny to watch you trying not to get too entranced by their singing while analysing it; we can all relate to that I think^^.

Great reaction / analysis. Some may complain but I like that you replay sections and explain what you find. Temple Music Academy is also heavy on the analysis side pointing out -- as you did -- aspects such as Kirstin & Mitch throwing out a clear tone and adding vibrato toward the end. Roberto. I do say Grazi thank you very much for reviewing this rendition of a timeless hymn by PTX. I do so enjoy acapella and good well done harmonies. Your critiques are revealing and informative. They get beneath the surface and bring to light the hidden gems of technique, control, pitch, breathing. Things that many others are not familiar with. Thank you again and God bless you.

I really love the way you break down and help your viewers appreciate the smallest intricacies of PTX arrangements. Even after hearing a song by them many times, you never fail to point out and highlight something I have missed. For that I am grateful. I hope you can get the copyright issues straightened out, it would be a shame to lose your insights into my favorite group. Perhaps you should try some live performances, they seem to get blocked less. One in particular I would recommend is their 2016 Popspring performance ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/bXiweaSPrdWhsM0 ) recorded by for MTV. The audio and video are top notch. It would also give you a chance to analyze some original compositions. 'Cracked' has Scott's bluesy soul lead, 'Can't Sleep Love' is just a fun pop song oh yeah and Mitch raps, and last 'Water' is written and led by Kirstin. It also has a fun medley in the 'Evolution of Michael Jackson'. Given your style it would be advisable to break them up to avoid a 2 hour+ video, LOL.

This is, as advertised, a thorough, detailed and discursive analysis, not simply highlighting a few of the stunning heights of the piece, but a comprehensive commentary from a deconstructive standpoint of what is achieved and how. As a non-native speaker, you bring a greater capacity to stand back from the avalanche of expression and home in on the causes, great and small, for the crescendo of feeling here made manifest.

Roberto, the best reaction/insight of Pentatonix that you've done. Especially loved the way you critiqued Mitch's part. Most people don't catch that key change to B for his beautiful voice. My favorite word to use when describing Mitch's voice is that it's smooth. It flows beautifully from register to register. It's seamless in this song. Kirsten's performance may just be the best she's done so far. And Kevin at the end - I loved your reaction and statement about him flying after the transfiguration. When he first came to PTX he said he couldn't really sing. Avi, the former bass, told him he could and took it upon himself to teach him. I look forward to your next reaction to this under appreciated group. Ciao!

Your comments are, as always, superb. It is wonderful that you pick up on the fact that their singing is reflective of the words and that they use their vocal artistry to reinforce the meaning of the words . That you conceptualize things into visualizations that you see and share with us is quite remarkable. It is also very special the manner in which we learn from you, not only what they are doing but also how they are doing it and gain insight into why they are doing it a certain way. They have great mastery of their art form especially as they are quite young ( at least to me, I am 75 ) but then I would say the same of you. I would echo the comments of Mr. Barnhart (below) about how the "drone" tone in the beginning is I think a way they honor the sound of the bagpipe version of the song which is widely played and heard not just in England and Scotland but in the U.S. as well. You are a source of joy as well as knowledge and emotional insight and it is clear that you love music and you love what you do. I hope that the passion that you express so wonderfully in your voice , your facial expressions and body language may some day become the pandemic that the world experiences rather than the one we having now. I paraphrase Shakespeare but I feel " You have unclasped the book even of your secret soul" with your videos and it is a very great gift. Thank You.

I love your reactions and analysis. It is like sitting down at the end of the day with a good bottle of wine. Those of us who love PTX know there is something very special in what they do but wouldn't be able to say what it was. Your analysis only increases my love and respect for them. I hope and pray that you can make these videos work, that the record company understands the value in what you are doing. The band loves reactions to their music and are in a constant battle to keep them from blocking everything. Please keep it up - I would love to hear your thoughts on more of their music - particularly any of their Evolution videos, Havana, or Imagine.

Sir: If you could, Pentatonix did a 4 song Mini concert as part of a Japanese program called Pop Spring. The year was 2016. The Japanese were/are putting this on every year and introducing new emerging artists to the public. So far as I know, there are no copyright issues that would prevent you from teaching us ( your public) more about their songs. Three are original songs with one a mixture of clips of Michael Jackson songs. Each song can be reacted to as single songs and your commentary would be of great interest . Hopefully you will check out the video and see the possibilities of using your knowledge to teach us. It is a live performance and they were a bit younger but the genius is there and their last song “Water” is fantastic. Kirstie is the singer and Avi Kaplan is the bass. Caio!

I never comment on videos. I watch a lot, but I don't think I've ever commented before. I feel compelled to say that you make me see/hear these songs in a different way. While I know how they make me feel, I now can understand WHY they make me feel. I have no music background aside from piano lessons as a child. I speak only English and I just love listening to your beautiful language. I could listen to you speak Italian all day! Your knowledge and passion make it possible for me to watch 43 minutes of reaction. Sometimes I can barely stand to watch 5 minutes of others' reactions because they say what I would say, i.e. "Wow that was amazing!" You bring a different side to these and I hope you never stop doing them :) You have yet another fan in America!

Hello, my name is Carlos Urdaneta, a Venezuelan living in Chile due to the crisis we are experiencing in our country. I am a great admirer of your accurate and excelent comments in the musical analyzes that you do. In this case, I wanted to tell you that I use headphones with an excellent response to low frequencies. Sony XB550AP with a frequency range from 5 Hz to 22,000 Hz. At minute 31:38 you talk about the void left by the beatboxer so that the prominence of the climax moment is taken by the voices. In fact with these headphones you can hear that the beatboxer gives a note that decreases it to the fadeout that serves as a bridge to that silence, that beatboxer is even more "amazing" .. than good performance. Thanks for your analysis and I will be waiting for your next video. You are excellent. All the best.

It’s pentatonix record label. They crack down super hard on most of their covers and somewhat on their original work. Pretty much the only thing that is usually safe from blocks are their evolutions and medleys, but even they get blocked occasionally.

Robert, need to ask you a question? Why do you not sing in your lower register? There is nothing wrong with your mixed voice but I think you probably have an incredible baritone voice that you don’t have confidence in and therefore don’t use. Tell me if I am wrong but being around the industry for over 40 years I can spot someone with a great voice that could be even better. Please don’t think I am criticizing you in any way, I am not. I just feel you are holding back on yourself for some reason.

You have given me a whole new appreciation for their music, pointing out details I would have never noticed. I can't imagine the process they go through to come up with these arrangements and loved your theories behind the beatboxing intensifying before entering the void. It would be fun if they came across your reaction and provided their thoughts. I'm sorry you are having issues with warnings. I hear that from a lot of people reacting to their music and appreciate that you continued to try.

I absolutely adore the detailed breakdown of the key changes, transitions, and emotion this brings out in you. I see and hear things I never would have on my own. I know other reactors change the perspective of the video, using software, from, "wide screen" to a more square, shorter rectangle, to ,so called, trick the algorithm from identifying the video origin. Maybe that would help prevent the copyright blocks. KZbin's "fair use" system is broken and hurts both the viewers and the artists.

I don't know if you will see this comment, but WOW!!! You have an incredible ear! With all that happens during this song, you picked the details out and broke some of those harmonies and changes down in such an understandable way! You are the first reactor (I've heard at least 20 on this song) that mentioned the arms crossing and opening on "my chains are gone..." Your analysis when you rewind each section is amazing. I LOVED how you reacted to the "void" (as you called it) when Kevin suddenly stops as they go to the pure a cappella passage. The whole reaction was an enjoyable learning experience for me.
