You are such an amazing reviewer, not only do you possess technical knowledge and explain it in a very clear and accessible way, but you're also so gracious about your delivery. And the way you can pick up little quirks and mannerisms of different artists is also impressive. It is true that Avril has a certain awkwardness about her on stage. She just feels more raw than her pop peers, I guess, which in her case is a very good thing -- it works for her and makes her more unique. So happy you did another Avril review! She’s my absolute favorite artist and I think she’s a bit underrated- at least in the current time. She has so many great hits, but even her lesser known songs are incredible and some I even favor more. You should definitely react to her performing “wish you were here” live. The live performances for the bridge of the song has her singing the background vocals that you hear in the recorded version. It’s so so beautiful. Love your analysis as always!

I've heard of Avril Lavigne for a long time but had never heard heard her until now. I understand she has had quite a successful career which is surprising with her "little girl" slighly pitchy performance here. But she draws you in with the heartfelt delivery and polished stage presence. Avril reminds us that vocal perfection is not as important as delivering the story to the ears and heart of the listener. That should encourage every singer to work even harder on that part of the art. Thanks for reviewing/analyzing Avril Lavigne for us!

Avril is awesome, she is natural from her look to her music. She is proper artist who can sing and play an instrument. Very rare today in modern commercial music. The only other great artist who is good is Amy Macdonald from Scotland.

Nice to know we see the same things in Avril’s voice and style. My friends don’t get it, they go to see bigger names with bigger productions and have a different opinion on Avril. I don’t think that live she ever really tries too hard, or that’s how it feels, almost as if she’s amongst friends - which of course she is! In the studio, as you say, she clearly chases flawless vocals, but I love the gritty natural more relaxed vibe of her live, it’s almost like we get to know her better, and to see her having fun means the world. I think my friends don’t get the appeal of her… for 22yrs now the authenticity of a girl who wrote her own stuff, insisted it was her way from the start, and did things differently in such an original way (plus a massive crush) meant I’ve been smitten. It’s not ALL about the vocal. I uploaded a video on youtube , most of her recent Greatest Hits performance in Manchester, a really special night with the authentic Avril, although it did feel like she put more effort into the vocal this time… sounds harsh but it felt like a conscious decision too. I saw her last May and that felt like she was saving her voice for bigger venues maybe (I was at O2 Manch). Anyway, nice to hear someones opinion that knows their stuff, check out my vid if you have time, such a great night 👍🏼
